Well, track days, anyways.

I've already done a bunch, but since buying my S3T, I almost never ride the CR anymore, so I'm thinking of converting it to a track bike. Nothing insane, but here's the plan, pipe up with any comments if you're in the know:

I need a fairing. I don't care for the 1125R fairing so I'm going to put on a Firebolt unit - this will bolt up to either an 1125R fairing stay, or a home made jobby.

The top triple tree will either get shaved down and use race style clip-ons, or I'll get an 1125R triple and bars.

I'll get the Erik Buell Racing ECM for the Drummer I already have, but otherwise the motor will be stock.

Engine case covers - 'nuff said.

All the body work will go to fiberglass - easier to repair after a crash, and I'd feel bad about ruining the good OEM bodywork I have.

This is about $1,200 in parts, but the following could be sold:
-headlight
-brake light
-turn signals (I have stock and nice rizomas)
-stock bodywork
-pass pegs
-license plate bracket
-stock muffler
-stock ECM
-a custom hard luggage kit I've made for it
-tail bag I have
-belt guards
-buell heated grips
-horn
-...and anything else I don't need...

Oddly enough, I think all that stuff is worth about $1,200, so this could be a sort-of break even project.

Plus I'd be willing to swap my CR stuff for R bits if there were someone looking to switch, so I could trade lower triples, ignition and lock sets as well.

For track day duty, I think the stock suspension, brakes, engine and belt drive will be fine.

How much for the heated grips and the rizomas turn signals. Are the turn signals front or rear? I am looking for front ones.

Ehhhh... no parts for sale, yet. Gotta pay off the loan on the bike before I start hacking it up.

The Firebolt fairing on the stock 1125 stay sits the fiaring at an odd angle.
It will work, but it's just strange.
Some adjustments or something custom would be better.

99buell - do you have a photo? The one I found was a french bike and it looks pretty "normal-looking" to me.

If it doesn't line up right I can always make my own stay and put it however I like.

No, sorry, no pics.
We stretched one onto a buddies race bike.....oh wait a minute....that might have been putting an 1125 fairing on the XB...shoot. I don't remember anymore.

Here's the french bike I was talking about.

Looks like he used a Firebolt fairing stay which he would have needed to mount the headlight, so the angle could indeed be different than the 1125R fairing stay. I won't have headlights so that part won't matter to me. Should be easy enough to either add tabs to move it or just built my own.

I found an XB12 fairing on an 1125R stay on this thread:

You're right, the angle isn't quite right. I'd either have to track down a 12R stay or make my own.

I think a change of plans. I took the CR out last night for the first time in a while and I think I'd just be heartbroken to not have this a street bike as well.

Instead I'll just put together a set of race plastics and add the Erik Buell Racing ECM and taylor-made case covers. Still going to use the Firebolt fairing, though.

I've heard that disconnecting the headlights on these bikes will cause them to not start - is there a workaround for this?

Incorrect. Disconnect the (6 pin?) connector at the lights, the bike will run fine.

Removal of the headlamp fuse will keep it from running.
