From asphaltandrubber.com -

quote:

Before you Buell fans start getting all in a tizzy, we have to break the news that the hype being generated about the Erik Buell Racing 1190RS is more about raising money for Erik Buell Racing, than announcing an upcoming motorcycle. Erik Buell & Co. have been making the rounds to investors looking for capital to build-out its production line, reportedly with little success. With a company built around a “never say die” attitude, Erik Buell hasn’t given up looking for cash (buy more t-shirts people!), and the 1190RS announcement is a way for Erik Buell Racing to show that there is a market demand for its motorcycles. Once the market is proven to exist, Erik Buell Racing is hoping investors will then open up their wallets.

I think a true American sporbike, and not some "Harley-ized" streetfighter would sell well. They will have to get past the many impressions of quality control issues, but I am sure a well made, competitive American sportbike would outsell Gixxers here in the US, even for a few dollars more. Especially one that looks as sweet as the 1190. It might only be a tough market if they are priced like Ducatis. Meaning, if I had $18K to spend on a bike and my choice was between a Buell 1190 and a Ducati 1198, Buell has a long way to go to convince me they are offering the better bike.

I'd take the Buell hands down. Even at that price ($18k) or maybe even a little more. Now I just need to sort out the $$ part.

I think that a bike would have to sell in the 14 to 16 thousand rage in order to compete with the like of GSXR and CBR1000RR and with the release of the new BMW at 14,000, an American Sports bike would have to be priced accordingly to compete well. Especially with so many obstacles to overcome like the perception of poor power output and little high end power. There are a lot of people consumed with RWHP and less concerned about handling prowess and flickability because they are less informed about what performance really means. Most new riders just want to go fast in a straight line.

The bike doesn't even officially exist, how can it have a perception of poor power?

Also, I can bet you Erik Buell Racing will have no problem selling every single one regardless of the price. The riders that wouldn't buy it because of the price are the same ones that wouldn't buy its competitors either because of the price. Like stated in the other thread:
Aprili}a RSV4 Factory $20,995
Ducati 1198S $21,795
Ducati 1198S Course $24,995
BMW S1000RR $13,800
BMW HP2 $25,500
MV F4 1000R $18,500

And those are all mass produced motorcycles, I didn't even bother looking up prices on low production things like Roehr.

No, I didn't mean the 1190 had a poor perception of power, I meant that the Buell's previous lineup in general has a negative connotation associated to it with having a low output of power because the more widely known Buells have the Harley V-twin. Once people begin to see that Buells offer a wide variety of torque, horse power, and styles, they will begin to become interested. I can't tell you how many times I have heard "man, I like the bike but they are slow". They don't realize that the 1125 and hopefully the 1190, produce as much power as they do. And the younger riders (in general) care about looks and RWHP and are uniformed about the Buell.

ROEHR Motorcycles LLC will extend it's successful, introductory, special pricing program, of $44,995 MSRP for the 2010 ROEHR 1250sc, until the end of 2009.

Unless it's built and possibly using some extra go juice, most if not all HD's will lose to an 1125, straight line or otherwise. I have yet to see a stock HD outrun mine.

If this bike becomes a reality it may not be cheap - if Erik is serious about racing then he will have to have a minimum production run for homologation purposes - much like the Foggy Petronas built for World Superbike racing a few years ago.

Yeah, I can't see any HD beating an 1125R either. My brother-in-law has a sportster 1200 and for an HD it is pretty fast but in comparison to the 1125R, it has no chance in any type of race. I don't know about the Night Rod though. I have heard that they are pretty fast but then again, they are talking about it being fast for an HD.

The Street Rod was the sportiest HD in a long time, and it wasn't even in the class of an xb9.

The V Rod is fast ( I have one ), but it's nowhere near as fast as a Rotax buell, and it's difficult to hold onto once you get past the national speed limit ...

...and it's not really a fair contest to compare a cruiser to a street bike.

The bike in that picture is a photo shopped 1190RR right off the Erik Buell Racing site. It is not an Erik Buell Racing 1190RS. No photos and no specs of the 1190RS have been released at all by Erik Buell Racing. Anyone else releasing them is making them up.

i would dare say the vrod will blow away an xb9 or 12 without fail, but the 1125r will take any vrod i've run across yet. I haven't ridden one, but my buddy has a "muscle" mildly built, and it's faster than you guys think.
badlionsfan, i don't know which vrod you're talking about, but in general ,for speed, they outclass the xb's hands down.

I do like that Night Rod Special. I just can't see paying 20 grand for it though. I like that muscle to but with that big tire, I wonder if it creates too much drag to propel the bike to high speeds in a short amount of time.

after thinking abut it a bit, i think ill retract the outclaased line in my last post. I'd have to say tat they are on par with each other(the vrod and xb12), honestly it boils down to road type an rider skill, but if you own an xb, don't go racin a vrod for pinks!,,............now back to the thread,....sorry

Where do you find that type of rule for AMA Superbike? Don't bother looking. There isn't one.
