Erik Buell Racing is hoping investors will then open up their wallets.

OK, I am a huge fan, no question. But if there is a shred of truth to this story then this does not bode well. We are now heading into the second-dip of this depression and things are bleak for the adult toy market. Even motorcycle magazines are closing up shop (Most recently Cycle News, Two Wheel Tuner). Why should we care about magazines closing? Because their existence depends upon a thriving motorcycle industry, and the fact is that marketing budgets everywhere are getting hacked to pieces because no one is buying much of anything from anyone.

Maybe in another 2-3 years but Erik's timing could not be worse. Hopefully the racing and enthusiast markets can keep them afloat while we wait for the economy to come back strong and support another premium superbike offering.

Problem is, by then I'll have a hard time choosing between the 1190RS and the Ducati 1198S Rossi-edition...

> Where do you find that type of rule for AMA Superbike?

http://admin.amaproracing.com/assets/AMAPro-2010-R R-Rulebook.pdf -- See page 28

You are right -- AMA's is rather 'unique'. Basically, you apply to homologate a bike or parts, and from a random black box comes a decision.

In CMRA, club level racing admittedly, the difference between the "Superbike" classes and "Formula" classes is essentially if the bike had been previously "mass produced" (1,000 units for sale) or not.

About the only accurate thing that can be said about nearly all the information in this thread is that pretty much none of it has any basis in fact.

Pretty much baseless internet chatter.

But that's just my personal opinion.

after thinking abut it a bit, i think ill retract the outclaased line in my last post. I'd have to say tat they are on par with each other(the vrod and xb12), honestly it boils down to road type an rider skill, but if you own an xb, don't go DRAG racin a vrod for pinks!,,............now back to the thread,....sorry

There... fixed it for you.

Racing in a straight line for a quarter of a mile is a uniquely American past time. In the real world, roads are neither straight, nor flat, nor just a quarter mile long.

Don't tell Joe (LittleButQuick) or any of the Aussie drag racers that.

What was it that Court just said?

Jaimec, come down to South Florida and I'll show you not only straight and flat roads, but also roads that are two and three wide each direction at over a couple of miles long

extended swingarm gixxers and busa's are the norm here for that reason. yes it does make us Buell owners upset that we dont have the roads to truly extract all of Buell's handling prowess, but what we lack in turns and hills we make up for in weather and riding all year long.

V-Rods will most definitely drag race an XB and with alot less one wheel drama but with the 1125 it is game over.....unless V-Rod has work done.

now back on topic...any street legal offering by Erik Buell Racing is progress and a step in the right direction. I look forward to the time when we can look back at October 15 and laugh at how we worried that it was the end when in truth it may have just been the beginning. just my opinion though

I, for one, actually feel somewhat comforted that we're back to nit-picking details we know nothing about.

A few months ago, it seemed that we'd never actually see an American Superbike.

Now that we're on the verge of actually getting what appears will be the first, true American Superbike, we're trying to think of all the reasons we can imagine that it won't work.

Seems like the good old days to me!

Given that it is Erik Buell's intent and business to figure out what is required to put the 1190 on the track, I am sure that they have given it a lot of thought and will do what is necessary. The benefit is that some of us will get the street version. Everyone wins! Maybe there won't be that many, but some will be released and the rest of us can be content with what we are riding now. I have no complaints. LJM

Torq: I'm familiar with Florida roads, having been to MANY Daytona events over the years. Only excitement were freeway on/off ramps.

But Florida roads are also a little bit longer than a quarter mile, too.

I remember test riding a Victory Vegas Jackpot and thinking it was a PERFECT Florida bike... it didn't want to TURN; that big, fat tire in the back just wanted the bike to go straight.

XB9 and XB12 don't have separate boards, so for now leaving it in the 1125board should suffice. Perhaps a name change to The Water Cooler or something instead : )

Contrary to popular belief, there are some curves in Florida....just not miles and miles of them at once...if you guys are in the Tampa/Orlando corridor one of these days, I will be more than happy to show you my favorite roads. : )

No, it's not like Suches or any of those places....but we have fun....and the occasional long stretch is fun too.

I rode weekend before last with a group of ZX-10r riders...had no problem keeping up except that one two mile long straight...but I did find the rev limiter in high gear. : ) My tires stay nicely scuffed.

If you remember Jen's team was forced to run an additional can at Assen due to sound limits of the 1190rr.

Absolutely, without question. It would be an insult to group EB's new, MoFoCo-free street bike in with the H-D models. Why would it not have its own board? The 1190RS is not an XB, and it's not an 1125- it should have its own board.

This is the beginning of a new era. Today would be an appropriate day to start the 1190RS board.

Umm..I'm curious who would populate an 1190RS board in light of the actual number of 1190 owners... there are thousands of us with 1125's - hence the need for a 1125 board. An 1190RS board would be made up of almost 100% purely speculative posts - is that something we really need more of?

You mean like this post and the RS thread on the Quick Board? At first I was against creating a separate section for the 1190RS, but I agree with the sentiment that feels this new beginning for Erik Buell Racing deserves its own section.
