FMF now has the apex design with a titanium can. Didn't see anyone else mentioning it yet. http://www.fmfracing.com/Products/STREET/478

Still a repack design, but hey...maybe no carbon fiber splits now. Wish a repack didn't cost $60...

What FMF needs to do is make a slipon that looks like the muffler from their full system.

idk...I like the squared off look....I just don't like the under pipe so much...definitely an afterthought. For the price though it looks like a solid system.

No option for a carbon can anymore? Just the carbon end cap? Interesting.

I have one. They replaced my split carbon can with Ti at my request. Two track days on it and, so far, so good

I'm wondering if repacking with Stainless Steel Wool would do the job, and last a LOT longer.

Yes and no. It will last a while, but it doesn't do a lot for actual muffling and it holds a lot of heat.

IMO the carbon can is much prettier on the R....shame if they discontinued it.

It's not suitable for race applications, though. It can't handle the heat/volume of exhaust the 1125r produces.

If you are a street rider, I wouldn't worry about it -- the carbon is fine. But, it won't withstand day after day of session after session banging on it at WOT bouncing off the rev limiter.

NO carbon can would, for that matter.

I'm a little reticent to post this, but I think it reflects well on FMF, so I will:

I've been testing various new Apex designs for the 1125r for them. Basically, they send me a new can once a month and I deliberately try and blow it up. I've seen stainless and Ti wraps so far (I think). Both seem much more durable than the Carbon can for our bikes -- after beating on them I ship them back to FMF so they can evaluate.

I actually blew a hole in the mid-pipe this last time, so that's getting swapped out as well.

Again, I suspect very, very, very, very few of you are doing to your bikes and exhaust systems what I do; session after session at WOT, hitting the rev limiter, doing it in 90F heat, and so on. I'm extraordinarily hard on exhaust systems.

FMF really is trying to offer a great product for our bikes and deserves our support.

Sounds like FMF is being responsive and taking ownership of the issue like HD would! Err, wait, nevermind...j/k

Yes, FMF has been very proactive on this. They returned my pipe to me via second day air, at their expense, so I could make a track day. I got the same instruction too, try to break it and report back. Can't ask for more from them !

it just looks wrong imo
what do they use for packing then?
over here in uk i have some stuff we use in endurance race car silencers, its way more than adequate for a bike silencer

Ysracer, looks like your belt guard is about to touch down. While that is some big lean, and I haven't had mine over that far yet, it doesn't look so extreme that it should be dragging hard parts. Seems to me that sucker could too easily be ground off on the track.

You wouldn't happen to have a profile shot of your bike with that can would you? I am curious to know how one of these would look on my red bike.

They use fiberglass pillow packs. They are available on the website for $60 a pop. Depending on the miles you put in, might add up to be worth looking at a can that doesn't use fiberglass or steel wool. If I had a tig machine handy I would pretty much 'borrow' the flow master concepts and build a chambered exhaust without packing. Alas my funds are limited as well as shop space. Either way...I think I'm gonna go with FMF since the Remus I ordered fell through...but that's another story.

Freight_dog -

Yep, it does drag, surprisingly:

This is the only pic I have at the moment:

That is PERFECT, thanks. Tire warmers and a nice looking can, very sexy! Waiting on the shootout results, but I could definitely rock the FMF.

At least the dragging doesn't look too bad. I was concerned about levering the wheel off the ground.
