After a year and a half prototyping, I came up with this for my CR. From this thread, and others, it looks like many of us feel a little more wind protection would be nice. This one is adjustable by about 25 degrees for rake and really takes the buffeting off my helmet. I made a few and can make some more if anyone is interested. You can send a PM.

I like it.
How does it mount?

It just uses the stock flyscreen bolts. No drilling, just unscrew them, install the screen and screw 'em back in. I use a foam stopper deep behind the screen to stiffen it up,and make adjustment for rake and twist very easy. It's high impact acrylic and aluminum. I think it weighs about 8 or 10 ounces, but I don't really know.It took me a long time to sort all the details, but I like what I got in the end.

Quetip, yes, below is what I posted after speaking with them about a year ago:

Brad wrote to Laminar:
Seems like a natural, you and it. I love the bike and would buy it, but
the contingency would be your involvement. ITS AN EASY ONE how do we get started?
Brad

Laminar Response:

Hello Brad,

We'd love to make a product for it, however, we need someone local to us (with that model) to donate a few hours for us to figure what will fit and work. Would you be that person? We're in Santa Ana, CA...

Safe and pleasant rides,
Leo

From Brad to BadWeb:
I could not live further away and still be on the same Continent. Anyone close by?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

OK, 4" lower. More complicated brackets, but it does what I wanted - gets the air off my chest. (The velcro thing is a headphone amplifier - the Garmin can't drive the headset in the helmet without some help. )

Screw a separate sport touring bike. That's what I'm using this for!

You saw the airhawk cushion, right. That's the bead seat of the new millenium.

Gas, I like your set up, probably closer to what Laminar did for the Speed Triple and the XB. Something like that, but with a dark tint would work for me. What kinda $$$ are we talking? They use a super strong industrial 3M backed velcro type material for clean looking install and easy on and off. I thought I would add just a couple of very small wing nuts, for those rare triple digit moments.

Gas - you'd do much better using polycarbonate(Lexan) instead of acrylic(Lucite or Plexiglas).
The acrylic will crack and chip, polycarb will not.

Nice work Danii, keep at it, it's getting better each time.

I went thru 2 prototypes before I settled on my windshield supports on my Uly.

I built mine light and flexible, but had no problems with the shield or mount at
(alleged 120+) air speeds.

I made two shields out of polycarbonate, but I didn't like the photoreactive properties as it isn't as resistant to UV. The acrylic is high impact, and I have been riding my SV and Buell with acrylic shields for over 10,000 miles with no chipping or cracking from impact. Polycarbonate is tough, but it's hard to work with, retains moisture, AND...let's face it...any little windscreen that preserves the styling of our CRs is NOT going to make our faces safer. We are looking over the top of them anyway...

OK, now with the angle iron on there, you can build a nice little shelf with some velcro and mount that amp and a few other doo-dads up there...maybe a nice compass, plastic jesus, or even a radar detector.

I still think the RAM mount 11mm hole base should replace that horrible u-bolt, but it's your ride.

you know... you guys could always put an 1125R front fairing on your cr. it would knock down whatever wind your worrying about and still look decent....

which looks to be a very hard thing to accomplish.............

Converting a CR to an R fairing is pretty expensive.

Gas, your looks very good also, can you post some pictures of your mounting points?

Here ya go Bartimus.Sorry about the fuzziness. The stock bug screen bolts hold the bigger screen on. Pretty simple.

I just added this Slipstreamer Spit Fire windshield to my CR this past weekend. I added two small extra struts to the bottom of the shield using some turnbuckles for adjustment. These keep the shield from rubbing on the headlight top cover.

Oyrider, 1st you are the man, I've been trying to get someone over there since I spoke with Leo there a year ago, I live in FL.

They told me they are willing to produce it, but they are not going to get rich from it, it's just a piece o plastic and they are not going out to hunt the bike down, but if someone could come by and donate a couple of hours they would do it.

I guess they have the equipment and materials, it's not a big deal to take a few measurements and mold it out.
But all their stuff looks pretty good and they don't want to guess from a picture.

The only thing is if you don't live really close by, I would call and make sure there is someone to do the thing, and remind them there is a back log for a functional good looking option. Just a suggestion.

Quetip asked "Do they need the whole bike?"

Yeah they need the whole bike to get the angles right and stuff.

Much of their stuff looks pretty good, like the Speed Triple, and the XB is not bad either.

They need a bike there to mock it up, or they just wont mess with it.

Looks like we might be close, I hope they come up with something decent in form and function. I'm ready to buy!

The boys at Laminar have seen a CR and will have their product ready to try tomorrow. They are unsure how much of a market there is for the CR's, but are willing to make the windscreen. More tomorrow!
