Hi guys,
now i got 2 offers from dealers here in Austria were i live (the 2 exhausts nearly have the same price...).

So what for an exhaust is better? - i will use them on street (in austria illegal), so it should be not too loud and increase more
power / torque.

The benefit is that the jardine is made trough Carbon (same price like Aluminium HMF).

In June i will buy the Erik Buell Racing ECM, so what configurations are better?:

Jardine + "normal" Erik Buell Racing Race ECM
HMF + "specified HMF" Erik Buell Racing Race ECM?

Thanks for you help : )...
Kevin

I think both the Jardine and the HMF (as well as the very-similar FMF) will be a LOT louder than stock. So will the Barker, which is in the same price range but, IMO, a much better-looking exhaust.

If aftermarket exhaust is illegal, you might want to get something that looks close to stock. The Torquehammer, if painted flat black, would look pretty similar to stock, in that it's big, bulky and ugly. It's also a lot more expensive than any of the cheapy slipons mentioned above.

An aftermarket exhaust is illegal here in the US as well so I think his options are the same as ours.

I have a Jardine (in carbon fiber). It is as loud as you would expect a 13-inch free-flow exhaust to be. I love it, but, to be honest, I've not seen any concrete evidence that you're really going to dramatically increase power with any of the short cans. I say pick the one that looks and sounds good to you.

As for the ECM, I spoke with Erik Buell Racing a few weeks back, and at that time they told me that all the aftermarket exhausts are so close in performance that a single "universal" tune works for all of them. Perhaps they've changed their opinion.

the free spirits exhaust looks the best hands down. If anyone has the free spirits exhaust, can you post up some pics? They only have one small pic on the website.

Free Spirits looks good, but sounds like shit IMO.
I was really disappointed in the sound.

I love the sound of my Drummer.

gdkp:

I agree, carbon looks the best BY FAR. But do be aware that carbon requires some care and degrades over time so that it will eventually need to be replaced.

I love the way my Jardine looks & sounds(and I get lots of compliments). But if I knew then what I know now, I'm with Zac: I'd spend a little more and get the Drummer.

The Barker is NOT as loud as the others 'specially if you use a baffle tube in it....

I actually like my Jardine.
Good sound, not liking that it still blasts my swingarm though.

It's coming off this weekend and the Erik Buell Racing full race exhaust is going on.

Evidence:

I'm interested in a pipe and a ebr race ecm . Ebr quoted me that the strongest slipon you could find was the hmf. I plan on waiting on the results. That is awesome that someone took the time to test all the pipes.

The result of the exhaust comparison test, fluctuating here around at this place, would be real interesting.
Why does it last so long to see the graphs?

I would aspect a picture like this: The best performing pipe makes 5-6 HP more than the stock one with adequate jetting, the worst one 5-6 HP less.

5-6 HP mean a difference of 3% in performance, that is a margin within the tolerance of any dyno measurement. Therefore a real (and sensible) gain would need an increase of at least 12 HP of engine output regarding the Helicon engine.

Such a performance gain is not hidden by and within the stock muffler. Measuring its back pressure proofs, that this part is not restrictive at all. 150 mbar back pressure are not so bad for a street legal system. Therefore the possible gain by an open pipe is pretty limited.

The real restriction by the stock exhaust system is the small diameter of its primary headers: 28mm behind the exhaust valves is sufficient up to 90000 rpm at an valve diameter of 32mm. The Helicon has 34mm and is designed to rev 11000.
An engine, working at this amplitude needs not something, but at lot more of propagation area at its outlet.

My conclusion: For real power gains you need a full exhaust system
The headers of the Erik Buell Racing full exhaust look nice. This lay out should work pretty efficient over the whole engine operation range, especially under partial load.

The only short coming of this exhaust is from my point of view its noise level: This pipe looks like as it sounds real open, producing earth quake like shock waves.

Therefore a nice thing would be to combine such an Erik Buell Racing header with a muffler arrangement, which calms down the noise to a reasonable level without scarifying performance.
