I have seen 153mph, slowed as didn't like the vibrations. On my '08' ZX6-R i revved it out in top and saw 171mph on the clocks, Thats so far out on actual top speed i wonder if the Buell is the same ?

A lot of older japanese sportbikes have been noted to display greatly exaggerated speedometer errors. Some measured as high as 12 percent over actual speed. I had a 91 FZR 600 that would hit 160 on the speedo pretty easily but there is no way it was going much over 140. I also had a late 90's gixxer 750 that would show 175-180 with ease, but again, there is no way it was going that fast. The 1125 has, from what I have gathered, a very accurate speedometer.

Very true, but I think it's still prevalent in late model IL4s (maybe to a lesser extent.),. It's pretty funny at the track to hear the IL4 boys bragging about their top speeds down the the straight--so inaccurate. It's pretty cool knowing the number we see on our Rs is pretty damn close to the real number}

The ECM compensates for speedo inaccuracy, but that said it still is off a bit.

Oh, and this thread is worthless without proof.

I'll have to go out and try again 'cause I am sure I saw 172 on mine the other day but can't believe it myself if everyon else is mid 150s...

Conditions were perfect, LOOOOOOOONG straight road, no traffic, slightly downhill, strong tailwind and I am sure when i looked down it was 172MPH...

Think I need to go out again on the weekend and try again, just to make sure I wasn't imagining it.

Jules, if you were at the redline in 6th, you probably were showing 172, actually running 167-168. According to another badwebber that ran the Texas Mile, the 1125R topped out showing those numbers, with the track system showing him he ran 167-168.

If you weren't redlining 6th, or if you have a CR, then it may have been a misread.

One the first day the 1125R's were shown to the public... inside pass track day at mid ohio. Back straight, I let off the throttle because I was chicken.

There was *some* GPS jitter in there, so it may have been 10% off or so. But it wasn't *that* far off...

I've seen 131 mph on my GPS top speed ... what I like about the 1125 is that it gets there so quickly it only takes 15 secs or so to accelerate, enjoy warp speed, and decel to the speed limit again. No biggie and the CR felt incredibly stable at that speed. That said, I rarely break 90 for more than a few seconds on my normal commutes.

(and note, the bike I was riding was pre-production... so it may have had a tune that was not EPA legal)

That's what my money goes on, must have misread, it was just a quick glance LOL

I was getting pretty close to topping out in 6th but don't believe I was near the redline.

Will have to try again and see LOL

Reep, that don't add up - 178mph in a 6 second, .3 mile leg, when the legs right before and right after are in the 50mph range. That's more than a 10% glitch...

The speedo on my CR has read 149 mph on the straight at NJMP Lightning course. You guys doing these speeds on public roads are out of your friggin' minds. Traffic, potholes, small rocks, wildlife crossing the road... too many variables to make the risk.

I saw 150 on my GPS after I slowed down. There was still PLENTY left!

On my ST1300 that GPS showed it doing 333mph ;+} If you have been around GPS' long enough you will know if there is a signal issue it can have an error and that usually shows up as an errant max speed reading.

BTW TN is trying to pass an excess speed legislation. If you are 25+ mph over posted they can add on b/t $300 and $500 on your ticket. Final $'s are still being discussed. Guess the old C&I has been fought and lost so now they are going on to something easier to enforce and defend.

156 indicated on my CR... I don't use a GPS to get places as the one in my head works perfectly fine... I do have a GPS speedo on my phone though I could verify with.

I work in law enforcement so I had a trooper friend of mine laser me on a track in Ohio last summer. He showed me the readout i was at top speed ( near red line ) and he clocked me on three separate locks and all three were 171 mph on the laser. My speedo said 174 so imho the speedo is pretty accurate

Top speed isn't important to me personally. As they say--any fool can twist a throttle or mash a gas pedal. Now corner speed and drives out of said corners is a whole different story. THAT takes skill.

Lots of guys I ride with think they are fast because they go flat out in the straights after losing much time in the corners. Newflash: You're not fast.

Flatout in a straight line on a CR with no wind protection at over 130 MPH on ANY surface without a steering stabilizer is pretty crazy and takes some balls! or maybe its jus cuz I live in Cali and our roads are f u c t!
