That the 08 gauge cluster is the cause off draining the battery? I cant keep my bike off the battery tender for more than 12hrs. If I do it cranks really slow to start up. If I start it right after I unplug the tender it fires right up. If the cluster is the cause I will buy a 09 cluster and call it a day. thanks-chris (Message edited by xb9er on May 07, 2010) |

Should be a warranty thing. Let it kill the battery, call the dealer and complain, they'll usually replace both the battery and the cluster, it's a known issue. |

I think it's tech tip 396 for the cluster battery drain issue. |

Daggar that is the right one. I just googled it and that is what came up. I called the dealer and set up an apt. next thursday. The service man said he had never heard of the issue. Is there a way for them to look in the computer and find tech tip bulletin TT396 instrument cluster software changes? |

Yeah, it's on HD Net. My dealer couldn't find it at first, so I had to call customer service, who then called my dealer and helped them find it. The problem was they were searching Tech Tip 396 when they needed to search TT396. When the guy entered that, it came right up. |

i noticed with mine it's worse if the pin security coded is used, and then by the time you enter the code its as dead as a dodo. I now don't use the pin code as i can guarantee a flat battery Is hdnet for the dealers only and is it the same for a dealer in the uk (Message edited by foxy on May 07, 2010) |

Do you shut the bike off with the key or the kill switch? If you use the key it will kill the battery. Use the kill switch then shut the key off. |

I have shut off the kill switch, maybe, a dozen times. I shut the key off every time. 2 1/2 years, 24.8k miles. Z |

Use the key or the switch. Doesn't matter. |

why would it make a difference to the battery if i use the key only. Surely the system is then dead whether or not the kill switch is used or am i missing something here? |

Xb9er, Let me know if you get that new cluster. I want to know if you get a gear indicator on it and if it works with the '08. Good luck with the battery problem dude. |

my bike keeps giving me the system voltage error when trying to start up, and then it wont start up even after minutes after just shutting it off. the dealer says its not the battery or the stator and charging system. could the cluster be the cause? because they cant figure it out. |
