you pull up to a BMW/DUC/MV Agusta/Aprilia dealer and your 1125CR turns into the center of attention to everyone in and near the dealership.

I was like WOW...I'm drooling over a $40,000 bike and everyone else is tripping over my CR.

Thank you Buell!

I had comments as cool as "now there's a piece of history" or "WTF was Harley thinking"

I was suprised to hear all the supportive comments for Erik Buell in that shop

Most of the manufactures from across the pond liked Erik for his ideals and vision. I don't know if you guys saw this but it was posted on triumphs web site 15 days after the announcement

"The unexpected end of the Buell era

Friday, October 30, 2009

We at Triumph were sorry to hear about Harley-Davidson’s decision to stop building Buells.

Although Buell have been our competitors over the years, we have always had the utmost respect for Erik Buell’s passion and engineering innovation. Our philosophy at Triumph is ‘Go Your Own Way’ and we truly felt that there were only two brands in the world that embraced this ethos and allowed motorcyclists to express their individuality: Buell and Triumph."

We welcome any Buell riders who want to join us at Triumph events.

Pete, I've gotten the same comments when I stop for gas or something. It truly is a shame.

That is really cool that Triumph would say that. Especily since Buell was planning on really being there competition if they would have got to produce that triple in the CW article.

Although it pales in comparison to the 1125R, there is one other American sport bike, The Fischer MRX 650:

The Fischer bike is interesting, but it uses a Chinese built engine (Suzuki based) and I would guess that most of the other non "name brand" components come from China also. Nothing wrong with that other than the cost of the bike. Got a kick out of their engineering sources though....Gemini Technology Systems of "Mawanago", Wisconsin......

Guy: "Hey Man"!

Me: "Yea"

Guy: "Is That a Buell"?

Me: "Yep"

Guy: "How Big"?

ME: (scratching head for a sec..)O..1125

Guy: "That looks sick, I heard they've been shut down, is it hard to get them worked on"?

Me: "Well that's the thing, it's a Buell, they don't need "worked on" they just run"

Guy: ...smile...."nice bike"

I don't have an 1125 (yet), but I know the feeling. Kids point, single men sneak pictures, and at charity rides the FUHD riders with their chrome masterpieces get ignored. The 12R looks fast just sitting there, and everybody loves the Drummer.

Yesterday some fella at Ace spent an hour helping me find SS screws for the Uly "'cuz it was the most interesting thing he'd done all day."

I use to get the WTF stare all the time on my XB, I've only had the CR out a few times, but I'm sure I'll get the comments and random conversations riding that bad devil.

Had the same with my 1976 Triumph Trident, people would go around the common stuff and check out the Triumph. (wife just did not get it, she don't get the Buell thing either!) I should stop and hang for longer with the buell! lol.

I love when someone looks at my cr and tells me, "Man, the front of that thing looks like a jet!"

That is the first thing I said when I saw a pic of the bike online.

Sinjhin, ditto, I think of the F-4 Phantom when looking at the bike from forward nose to tail. Maybe someone at Buell felt the same way since the 2010 frame color is named Phantom Metallic.

Now that I think about it, a front view of the bike more resembles a Harrier jump jet.

I was sitting at a stoplight and a guy driving through the intersection who had the green turned and looked... and looked... and kept looking until he was about 50 yards away from me.
Something tells me he was saying WTF in his head. But at least it got his attention.

Even little kids think riding a motorcycle is totally cool. I was sitting in a McDonalds on Saturday with my helmet on the table and the 4yr old boy comes in with his dad and does the walk-by and stare with the "he rides a motorcycle" comment to his dad. Fun stuff.

I was at my local FUHD dealer (although, as dealers go, they are excellent and very Buell-friendly) on Saturday to get the charging system update done.

After the 45 mins to get there in the 30ºF weather at 7:30am, it took about 2.5 hours to get the harness in.

While I was waiting (there from 8:30-11:30) I got very familiar with their shop/showroom, lol. First thing the service writer says is, "Cold ride, eh?"

"Nah, I live for it," I say.
"Thatta' boy," (I'm 25) he says.
Smiles are shared.

Walk into the showroom, and I guess they didn't realize I rode an 1125CR because I was just wandering around with my pack on and, being young, he catches me looking at a used V-Rod and, next to it, a new Sportster 48.

"Man these things are rockets aren't they?! Wanna' sign the paperwork?!" he says to me, obviously half-joking with an underlining tone of seriousness.
"I just don't think they'll do it for me, I don't have the money anyways, haha. I'm just waiting on my bike in the shop right now," I responded shooting the smile back.
"Oh yeah? Man it's cold this morning! What'cha got back there? You can test ride one of these monsters while you wait!" he says.
"Oh, I got an 1125 with a couple goodies on it," I shot back trying to hold back that poop-eating grin that comes with being a Buell owner.
"Oh ... well nevermind then. You wouldn't be too interested in these then, haha. I've never ridden one, but I hear those things are rockets," as he tends to another possible customer.
That they are.

As the tech comes back from the quite spirited test ride with Ginger after the service work he rides her by the man about to take the 48 on a test ride and he gives the new uncorked Barker's exhaust a few raps ... which instantly takes everybody's attention away from the H-D branded gear they were looking at and directs it out the window, following the Racing Red CR across its path through the parking lot like a slow-motion tennis match spectator. I have to admit, I haven't seen any other CRs on the road so this is my first time looking at Ginger from the outside as she rolls by ... and I must say, she looked quite pissed off and snarley as she rolled by, HIDs glearing, basically extending a huge middle finger (SuFi if you will) as she gargled, idleling confidently to the service bay.

I thought one of the techs would have to go get a bike jack to pick the 8 year old's jaw off the concrete ... the son of the guy on the 48, no less.

"Now that bike sounds mean. I wonder if H-D has that exhaust for the [insert long string of Electra-Super-Glide-Duper-Sportster] ... what was that?" I overhear an older guy tell his H-D clad wife.

Couldn't help but just smile and continue looking at the $20 chrome master cylinder cover fasteners in astonishment.

Go back to pick up Ginger and the service writer asks if I had a pipe on her, of course I said that I did. "About shat my pants when [the tech] started her up," speaking of the shotgun start-up that we all know and love. Couldn't help but grin — you know the grin that you can see even with a full-face helmet on ... which I did. He shot the grin right on back and wished me a safe ride home.

Couldn't help but give Ginger a few raps on the throttle as I was passing the showroom again, with door wide open now due to the mid-day temperature up around 50º.

It's nice to have a bike that's a conversation starter ... and stopper ... b/c whatever convo the salesperson of the 48 and customer were having was immediately paused as I rolled by. What's even better is that after captivating everyone's attention for a bit, I took the long way home (about 3 hrs long) and worked on narrowing my chicken strips a bit — which I can say, thanks to Twist the Wrist I & II and some personal time with Ginger, are down about 1/2" (which I'm proud of for only riding since last Fall, with most of my miles on cold roads).

That's my little story.
