I bought my first buell 4 or 5 weeks ago. It is a 1998 s1w and l love it, well now I have the bug !! I decided to buy another one. I like the looks of 1125R Found one on the internet where my brother lives in Oregon so I sent him down to the dealer to put a deposit on it for me, they only had an 1125CR not the 1125R, so I did not buy it yet. I have to call the dealer tomorrow morning and tell him if I want the CR or not. I have not seen either bike in person only hundreds of pictures on the internet. To you people that have the CR’s don’t get me wrong I love your bikes they are bad machines, I just got hooked on the front of the 1125R. Any thought ideas advice would be much appreciated. I have read about everything I can find on the internet about the bikes and wanted some input from the forum. This forum has been such a great information source I would appreciate any input. Dude, the CR is so much meaner looking. It looks like it's going 100mph sitting still! Get the CR, ditch the mirrors for some bar ends and go. Plus the gearing is much more street friendly. I had a xb9sx before this and love the street fighter look, so I never considered the R. I guess the CR look isn't for everyone, hard for me to comprehend though. It would be expensive to put the R fairing on the cr. it requires a different instrument cluster and hand bars, possible more.   (Message edited by moosestang on January 25, 2010) | ||

What kind of riding do you plan on doing? If you plan on riding at higher speeds, you will want the R as the CR is trying its best to blow you off the back. I have a CR and I prefer the look of it and the majority of my riding is in the twisties where I'm not having to go for big speed. | ||

Obviously having both would be ideal. I'll probably add another full fairing bike in the future. | ||

Every owner has a bias towards what he/she purchased. I have 2 Rs and I like the quiet cockpit--probably the best sportbike protection in the industry. I have reconsidered the gearing and now prefer the R gearing as wheelies in first are easy on either bike and the taller gearing is better on the track and open road. Really, if you think you will be doing car dodging in the city, then the CR might be best. However, the R is much more the traditional sportbike, as if that's not obvious. Looks wise, I much prefer the R, however the CR has grown on me quite a bit. | ||

Yeah, it is subjective when it comes to looks. The CR never grabbed me, but the R always has. I don't think either is a bad choice ... I'd be proud to be straddling either one. Mike | ||

Same here. The guy I talk to at the HD store likes the CR and he was talking about getting one. But the R is what caught my eye from the start. | ||

When I went to buy my 1125, I went to get a CR. When I went for the test ride, the temps were in the upper 50's - low 60s (mid October). On the CR, your body is more upright and in the wind, just like the XBS (my other bike) For kicks and giggles, I asked to ride the 1125R as well. I was fortunate that the dealer had both the CR and R on hand, so I could ride them back to back. The CR I rode had the Clubman bars, but I was still in the wind. The fairing on the R provides more wind protection. I went to buy the CR, but bought the R instead. While the riding position is a little on the aggressive side for my liking, a set of offset bars will take care of that. If you plan on riding in cooler temps, (50's or lower), go with the R., unless you have heated riding gear. | ||

I like em both but I will never buy a bike to get out of the wind. I love the wind thumping my chest, and for that reason I have never owned a fairinged motorcycle. But I rode the 1125R at inside pass and it surely does not suck in performance either and it is quieter for those who like that so I envy your choice. | ||

I've got a '99M2 and always loved the naked bikes. It was a tossup back in the day between a Duc, Buell, or speed triple. I still have the M2 and still love the simple bike that it is. I also have a FJR for my touring and 'weather protected' duties, so the CR stood out when I was looking for a rebate bike. I'm no track jockey, so I felt the taller gearing and 'naked' looks were more my style and would help mimic my M2 more. I think it does...  I was about a week or two out of buying a used 'Guzzi Griso. Not sure if I won't be moving in that direction some day, but for now it's all smiles on the Buells. | ||

I bought the R mainly on looks (over the CR), although the CR is probably more suited to my riding style and needs. With the fairing sides fitted the "R" is just gorgeous.. I'm afraid I'm still not a fan of the pods and they're just too "obvious" on the CR. Either bike is brilliant though, whichever you choose you won't be disappointed... It's probably easier to "streetfighter" the R than it is the CR (maily because the CR is already almost "there") which is the route I plan to take but I'll just trim the fairing down and fit flat bars using the CR Optional High Bar kit so in theory I'll have (in my mind) the best of both.. | ||

Kirb, The CR has shorter gearing than the R. You stated it had taller gearing. That is not the case. | ||

Kidder, Typo on me. The lower gearing would replicate the air cooled engines better as far as around town driving goes...which is what I was looking for. | ||
