I asked XB lights about keeping stock signals in addition for higher vis on the road.
Im not a fan of the stock lights mostly because I tend to hit them getting on and off the bike all the time. Im looking for a slightly smaller external turn signals as well.

And yes, we can build a "jumper wire" to easily and pain free install both sets of rear signals ( integrated and external ) just let me know in the order confirmation email ( sent after payment is recieved, paypal or mailed )

Not an issue on the XBlights. Still, I am not a fan of integrated signals either. Whenever I get around to buying my XB light it will be solid. |

My rear signals are painfully bright, as is the stop light.
Robert makes a great product that in reality is more than you pay for.
His customer service is second to none.

Can I get directed to the correct bulbs for the 1125 low beams,are the h8 or 9's.I'm looking at the ddm one's have no clue what to buy. |

I just ordered DDMs. I got the 3000k (yellow) H8 35w. I also get size 194 LED lights for the front markers and license plate light. I'm getting Silverstars for my high beams.
They are running behind on getting orders out so be patient if you do order. It took a week to get my order out. |

Same here ... ordered the 6000K 55W in H7 for my CR ... took a week to get the order shipped. |

I called them and they politely explained the situation. No biggie. Not like the bike is going anywhere anytime soon. I'll post some pics as I'm installing and of the final result. |

Don't get silverstars... they are way to expensive and burnout quickly.. quick search on google will describe in detail the issues with silverstars....
As for a 55watt HID ...i dunno why you would want that, and i hope it doesn't cause you problems down the road.... 35 watts is WAY more than enough for any person...
if you want white bulbs for the high, get some ebay.. for cheap. i got 2 H8 bulbs xeon white for 6.00 shipped... work fine, not as white or bright as the hid's but work well and if they burnout, big whoop i'm not out 40.00 for bulbs...Silverstars are junk... (oh and the silverstars will be the same ... not as bright or White as the HID's
And yes the bulbs for the R are H8's |

I guess we all have our good and bad experiences. I moved a Silverstar I was using in my bagger I had for a year and a half into my Dyna I've had going for another 5 months till I stored it for the winter. I guess there's about 2 years on that bulb. However, i did have some Silverstar Ultras in my car that burned out in about 5 months. I went back to regular halogens, they lasted about a year before they both burned out.
I'm just going with my gut when I say this, I think electrical systems can shorten the life on bulbs. Again, just based on observation and not science. |

I have 55watt HIDs and no problems.. They are really bright. But not to bright on dim. |

I had Silverstar's in my XB for 3 years with no problems. I had it modded to run both lights on high beam and ran the highs 85% of the time! |

Sorry for the little bump, but this thread is the closest I could find in the search to what I'm looking for and I don't want to start a new one.
My question is what size in the rear brake light for the '09? I'm guessing it's a standard 1156 (single circuit) or 1157 (dual circuit) ... I want to replace it with an LED bulb. Should hold me off until I get an XBLights.com unit.
Going to get all my lighting needs in-house then do a write-up of everything for my '09 CR (red 194 running light, 55W 6000K HIDs high and low beam from DDM, and a rear LED bulb from autolumination.com).
I'm a technical writer by profession so you can expect the write-up to be top-notch (step-by-step with pictures) and in the Electronics section. I'll post up a reminder in the 1125 board when it's done, probably in late Feb.

1157 bulb. The XB lights are top notch but in the mean time a few $'s for a good 1157 LED is worth it (IMHO).
Those red 194 bulbs may be an issue with the LEO's around you. |

Illbuell, In the past, I've put the original large HID ballasts on one bike and more recently newer type "slim" ballast HIDs on another bike. They were a pain to find good mounting location.
I saw the much smaller "3rd generation" cylindrical ballasts on ebay. I was about to order a set of H7s for my CR but I saw that they are 35 watt, not 55 watt and more problematic, only available as 6000 degree instead of the 5000 degree or less bulb that I prefer. I don't like the blue light.
Can you please post a pic of the bulbs you installed so I can compare the 6000 degree color to my 4300 degree bulb color? Also, your bulbs are 35 watt, no?
I just checked ebay. Apparently these small cylindrical HID ballasts are no longer available.

Good point ryder. With the 55W HIDs in there shouldn't really be any red bleeding through (lol) ... it's mostly just for looks and visibility when I park somewhere at night at the ocean (OC, MD). Lots of knuckleheads there.

I also found something for you tourers out there: autolumination.com has a super bright 1157 LED bulb that has a built in flasher (20x over 2 secs) ... could be a nice cheap (and safe) option rather than buying a bulb modulation kit. I'm not sure if the bulb has the flash circuit built-in, but it seems that way:

I'm in the air about it ... I think it'd confuse people more than alert them ... I think super bright LEDs will work just as well (not sure which ones I'm getting off that page though ... their selection is vast).
Do our tail lights have a reflective inner coating? Reason I ask is b/c if they don't, there's no need to get an LED bulb with forward-facing LEDs (towards the socket of the bulb).

Yea RED 194's.... might not go over so well with LEO's besides if your doing 55watt hids.. you won;t be able to see the running light anyways...
35watt Hids are bright, i can't imagine a 55watt HID's I hope it doesn;t melt your lense.. |

HID bulbs run cooler than their incandescent counterpart. The only time heat can come in to play in a negative matter is if you swap in a plug and play HID kit into a headlight that was designed for an OEM HID setup. OEM HIDs are super quality and run very cool ... swapping in a cheaper HID "kit" may distort the plastic or thin metal components designed to work within the OEM HIDs operating range.
Of course you've heard of HID kits melting some plastic components in regular reflector housings, but this is generally due to a faulty or very cheap ballast with components that don't work well together.
At least that's what I've gathered. |
