Hi, I'm getting an 1125 Buell (IF I hurry) my question to you buell guys is which should I buy? I've found an 08 1125R but I heard they were plagued with fuel/heat/mileage problems...also I'm 56 and want to be as comfortable as possible...will you guys chime in and let me know which to drop the hammer on and WHY? They're about the same price wise (cr is 3-400 more at best) Thanks,
Tom

I got both. They are both equally good. R is better on the freeway with the big fairing and taller gearing, the CR is better below 50mph with its shorter gearing. Take a ride on both and see.

R is worth the extra money for the fairing and the higher gearing is more comfortable on the highway. My 08r has had none of the early problems since the latest flash.

Froggy; What about the 08s fuel mapping problem? Do they fix that at dlr b4 delivery?

Im 53 and chose the CR with the high bar option and can ride this all day. IMHO you wont like the R or the CR with the clubman bars......

The red ones are faster ......

My 08 R has better fuel mapping than my 09 CR. I need to get my CR reflashed : )

I agree with the above post. The CR will give you a greater level of comfort. Also, the CR will have the issues that you stated above sorted out. The proper mapping should have been applyed to the 08, and that would have taken care of all those issues, but the R wouldn't give you many options on changing the riding position.

I had the high bars on my CR when I bought it, and didn't like them. I swapped them out a few weeks ago with the clubmans. Much better ride, less wind pushing against you, and better fuel economy. Only negative was I wasted money buying that damn high bar kit.

I like the clubman bars. I prefer the CR look, minus the mirrors, belt guards, rear plate thingy(could they have made it any more ugly?).

How is higher gearing more comfortable on the highway? I'd like to shorten the gearing even more. I seem to always be town between 1st or 2nd around town.

Why is it that images won't show up if you add them when you edit the post?

I had to put some xb pegs on it. The ride home had my legs cramping up.

i agree with treker. i'm 40 and i can't ride all hunched over for long. putting the high bars on changed the whole personality of the bike. super comfortable, all day rider now. i'm used to riding in the wind and it doesn't bother me at all.

CRs should be @500 less than Rs. I bought an 09 R and love it. I would like a CR so riding with the wife and setting up as a "tourer" Uly style is a more realistic option. At first I wanted lower pegs on my R and bought some Uly pegs--but the stock position on the R is not that bad. Most miles on one day so far is 210--no back aches or other pain--just total pleasure. These are the best motorcycles available today IMHO.

The front windshield/fairing is one of my favorite things on these bikes, so an R was the only real option for me. I would probably like the shorter gearing of the CR, but not enough to buy it over the R whose front end I much prefer. Both great bikes ... Buy what you like!!

I'm 58, you diaper wearing babies. Got the CR instead of glasses, teeth and an angioplasty. Made the right decision.
I bought a CR because I knew I could swap the bars if my shoulder tendonitis flared with the stock clubman bars. But I have had NO trouble with the clubman riding position at all. I have the highbars and will try them after I flip the clubmans over and try that. But I don't really feel the need to change. The triples will have to be changed to mount conventional bars on an R model, I believe.

Well, Guys...I guess either one would be fine, here's the prices I've gotten on what few are left. I'm toolin around on the bandit which is low enough for me as you can see much higher bars than either Buell, but prices may dictate purchase...

08 1125R......5900.00
09 1125CR.....6350.00 plus ***k you fee of 199....so 5900 and 6600 ....the R looks better when you see these prices...all I know is I'm going to have to buy one quick if I want a new one....

I have a 09 1125r and find it mo better than the cr with stock bars.Longest day yet is around 500 miles.Like the extra plastic up front when I get caught in bad weather and after you ride the bike a while all of the muscles needed to be comfortable develope and it is a non issue anyway.IMHO

54 years old with mild arthritis but otherwise in good shape. Bought CR with clubmans and could ride it about 20 minutes before my neck & wrist said GO HOME NOW! Installed highbars, Uly pegs and the last custom seat in the known universe and I am more comfy than on my Harley cruiser. Rode 3 hours straight a week ago and had NO aches or pains!

Heh, I love reading these comments...

I am 43 and I have an R. The position is much different than my old XB12SCG but I comfortable and happy with the "crouch". To each his/her own at the end of the day.

I am particularly fond of the windscreen on the R and love how much protection I get from it. I suspect the CR would ride more like the XB12S and might be more fun for city riding but these bikes have a serious amount of "get up and go" and should be turned loose outside of the city every once in a while.

Choose the bike for your style and test both if you can.

54 and no problem with the R's riding position. In town is a pain, backroads a joy.

Going to hit 50 in a few days, going to be riding backroads all the way to Mendocino - stick around for birthday and Christmas - the a nice ride home as well. So far the CR with the clubman bars is just fine. The bike is smooth, the position comfortable, and I've had no surprises - just a lot of fun.

Yes Gas you are correct ...Got the glasses and had the Angioplasty and have real bad arthritis in both hands, bad thumbs other than that Im fit and trim 5'10 180 .

I guess it's all good but I have to be honest and say coming from a toured up Sporty this is more comfortable for the old body.

So in closing the answer is D..all the above, they are both great bikes-

Well...lotta useful info for me! Farts older than me are likin em, and I own an 86 1150E with an 83 1100 ED motor WISECOed up with an 1186 kit and no fairing, so I'm used to 100+ and no fairing, so I'm gonna try for the CR...if the dealer plays hardball (and some of them are ordering the last ones and jackin their prices to 7895.00), I know where the R model for 5900 is. You can bet your a** I'm gonna insist I be shown where the dealer has topped off the coolant/overflow tank level too BEFORE it gets loaded up! Learned that here as well. Plus the CR will satisfy my urge to own a B King I need like a hole in the head. (Real similiar Vader look). Wish me luck, and I'll post a pic of whatever I buy! Thanks for your input, and ride safe!

Also, I already have a bike with a fairing that is more fun to ride than a barrel of monkeys...you guys may get a hoot out of this one...

Have to put my 2 cents in - I am 51 and love my 2009 CR with clubman bars.

I have no problems with the bars, it is the damn seat! Of course the soft, comfy replacement seats are all sold out....

Zac4mac, where did you get that seat!!??

I'm a tall person (6'5"), so I put Uly pegs and the now unobtanium Buell comfort seat on my CR with the high bars. It's really very comfortable.

I've ridden it back to back with Barker's bone stock 1125R and both have their merits. The R is much easier to ride fast, the CR is more comfortable for everything buy droaning down the highway at 80+ mph.

Since I could only choose one, I got the CR. But I'd really like to have one of each. Set the CR up for comfort and the R up for the track.

I bought an 09 1125R in Nov 08 and am very happy with it, at 51 years old the riding position is no problem at all and have ridden the bike all day with no aches and pains, the R is an open road bike with the CR more suited to low speed work, you pays your money and you takes your choice

The seat is the now-highly-sought-after Firebolt Custom seat.
They are not made anymore and the supply chain appears to be empty.

Loren(Gowindward) Baldwin is making a similar one with your old seat as a platform.
I saw one yesterday on a customer's bike and it looked very nice.

1125R and 47 but ive been rode hard and put away wet,

the wind bubble from fairing makes the ride. i added lower pegs and will buy convertabars someday for in town riding.

highways the bars are fine and the bike is very comfortable.

if i can ride 400 miles on it with my busted up pelvis, knees and hands any one can.
