I love the performance of my 1125r, but i was starting to contemplate if this is the bike for distance traveling. I drove 4.5 hours highways and 1 hours non-highway (365 miles) this summer from RI to Delaware and it wasn't the most comfortable ride by any means. I would like to do these distances with ease if possible. I have a zero gravity sport touring wind screen on order (ordered it two months ago and have a month left to wait  ) I am thinking of seat options. i have stock foot pegs and didn't know if anyone knew how big of a difference lower ones would be? to give perspective, i am 6'1 at 230 lbs and broad shoulders. I am addicted to the cornering and torque of this bike, but is has been crossing my mind to check out bmw's (k1200s, K1300s, f800gs, r1200gs) thanks all, Nivek | ||

I am 6'2" and 210 so dimensions are close. Adding the double-bubble helped a LOT in diverting the wind flow. Consider adding an AirHawk seat cushion (http://www.therohostore.com/Departments/Comfort-Pr oducts/AIRHAWK-Motorcycle-Seat-Cushions.aspx) and you should be good for 400-mi days. The seat cushions are a bit pricey but REALLY work and can be moved from bike to bike. | ||

My comfort is directly proportional to how fast I can go. And I'm not talking speeding, just regular highway speed. I did a 500 mile day going to Lake George and back this past Spring and I was in far better shape than the 75 mile day I had going back and forth to Jersey City recently. Only modification to the bike is a Corbin saddle, everything else is stock. I think a higher windscreen would end up diverting more air from your chest which in turn would put more weight on your hands and wrists, so consider bar risers if you're thinking of putting a higher screen on it. | ||

I would look at the Firebolt touring seat and the Ulysses pegs for starters. Firebolt Seat The double bubble will help as well. You might also look at the convertibars. 1125R Specific Convertibar Kit CCryder has used them with great success. It'll give you the ability to quickly and easily convert from performance riding position to distance/touring position and back again. The 1125R can be made into a very comfortable long distance tourer. | ||

I find the 1125r to be about as comfortable as a supersport type of bike can get. I highly recommend the Buell touring seat. It's a bit thicker, taller, which has the advantage of effectively lowering the pegs as well. I'm not as tall or as big as you, but in general my advice with this bike is "stay off the slab". Find a back highway or something instead, and just keep the pace up so your effective travel time is about the same. If you really want a slab cruiser or more of a sport touring type bike, there are lots of good options, starting with the BMWs, but also the Connie, FJR, ST1300, etc. These are BIG heavy bikes, though. Nothing like the 1125r when the roads get tight. | ||

I currently have the handlebars raised 1in. I have heard of the airhawk, but was ifffy about the price, but i found in the forums, from carbonbigfoot, http://www.alaskaleatheronline.com/servlet/the-Del uxe/Categories , which they have them with gel pads as well. the ully foot pegs i will need to check out. | ||

Nivek this bike is hit or miss with folks of different shapes and sizes on the ergonomics side. The ONLY thing I would change on mine for longer hauls would be to go to a touring seat. That's the only thing I have any issues with over 300 miles. | ||

done a number of 1000 mile + rides on my 1125r. it's mind over matter and it don't matter cause i don't mind. put chin on tankbag, rubber band on throttle and go! corbin seat, the double bubble helps out a lot, stock everything else. i can see where a taller guy would have knee issues, i'm 5'6", 160lb and i hang my heels from the pax pegs to relax. biggest issue is the heat from the exhaust on my right foot. i think i'm gonna wrap it. tim | ||

I do believe i will have to look more seriously into seat options. When dropping my bike off at the dealer, i test rode a ulysses, it was very comfortable, like sitting in a chair with a big comfy cushion while cruising down the road. For some reason (probably because i am not use to the riding position) it didn't feel right for me. I was too easily able to hit the tip of my boot on the ground while cornering. this made me think more about a "happy median" of a bmw k1300s or something. but why sacrifice cornering and buell performance  , i should just wait till i can afford a second bike and keep the buell  maybe get a f800gs or something | ||

I have ridden a 1125r as well and think its one of the most comfy sport bikes out there. Had it more passenger room I would be buying one as a play bike and LD touring bike. My only thought for the touring thing would be adding the high bar kit from the CR. Keep in mind I am 6ft and 260. But after riding a Yamaha FJR I found that bike to be almost perfect. It also helps that the wife found it comfy from a passenger perspective. I really love the 1125r and would enjoy having one, but unless Buell comes out with a ST model it will be the FJR for me and the wife. | ||

Back in July I did an Iron Butt on a stock one. Actually was pretty comfortable. I got tired from about 400 - 700 miles but felt good again after that. | ||

After a 420 mile ride the only thing I wanted to change is the stock seat. It felt like I was sitting on a rock. Does anyone know of a good gel seat? | ||

I don't recommend the firebolt seat. I put one on mine and lost all kinds of confidence in the corners. The seat is really wide so you cant hug the tank like you can with the stock seat. It is comfy though. Anyways the stock seat is back on. I just try not to pay attention, your butt goes numb after a while | ||

Long distance on the R is like flying 7hrs plus in a plane. It's uncomfortable and grueling,, but the Buell plays a better movie right in front of you with a "Fast Forward" feature to it. | ||

Well decided to finally chime in. I ride a 2009 1125cr. Awesome bike. With a few mods for comfort, I rode it through 6 states, 3,546 miles, in 9 days. Starting in Texas, through Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, back through Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and back to Texas. Well the bike ran perfect, and the comfort was very good. BTW I'm 52 yrs. young. | ||

I rode my Firebolt, which I think is LESS comfortable than my 1125CR through NY, PA, MY, VA, NC, SC and GA in two days. Corbin seat, NO other comfort mods. Averaged about 500 miles and 11 hours on the bike each day. I rode my CR through NY, NJ, PA, MY, WV and OH. This was with a group so daily mileage was less, but time on the seat was similar. Again, no mods aside from the Corbin seat. | ||

Loretta is an 08 R, she has 21999 miles on the odo right now. I took two trips last year with some changes in between. Mar28-Apr4 Denver to Victoria Texas. Tour seat, heated grips, stock pegs. Butt was OK, legs suffered. Jun29-Jul7 25th Anniv Homecoming, added Uly pegs, BIG improvement, 930 miles in the last 24 hours coming home. 54 y.o. Z | ||

Well i recently returned from indiana 1200 mi to RI 4 day trip, 68", no real problems hit all weather hail to sunshine. could use a little more padding in seat but wasnt unbearable..oh if you want to ride here local got some pretty good twisties here threw tiverton littlecompton westport area | ||

I have a CR with the Uly pegs and Buell touring seat. It's about 80% as comfortable as my Ulysses. Actually, the forward cant to the bike is easier on my butt that the Ulysses more upright seating position, especially at speed where the wind holds you up a bit. I'm 6'5", 220lbs, with a 36" inseam, so my poor knees get pretty cramped up and sore on just about any bike. Not the fault of the bike really, I just have crappy knees. | ||

Hey 68eb429, I work in middletown and go to school in kingston, so i am always driving on the island. I ride in those area's, not a whole lot but from time to time. I went from RI to ct the other month, was a good ride. rt 169 in ct is nice. i am always looking for twistie roads  I almost want to say i am just grass greener on the other side syndrome. I need to just make the few adjustments and settle with my buell, the thought of getting rid of it for another bike is unsettling so. . . | ||

I tried the 2004 XB12R seat off my race bike and what a difference! Around $70.00 new and a great improvement over the stock 1125R unit. | ||
