"A smart firm, and one of the most successful in the history of American business, they are unlikely to sit on their ass and do nothing."

We're in total agreement on this one. It will be interesting to see how they handle BMC.

No one is too big.
5 years ago we were at 700+ employees and we shipped 10,000 motors per day. We worked overtime and sometimes 7 days a week to make up inventory for spring and summer sales.

Today we are at 250 employees and ship 3,000 motors per day. We have to take "shifts" out for a week at a time to keep no inventory and still keep our turns at 65 per year. We won't build any inventory since we have over 3 times the capacity than we need. Given a little lead time for components and training, we could double our production in 2-3 weeks and triple it in a month.

We manufacture all of our assemblies ourself except for a few specialty items. We stamp our laminations 100% for us and our about 15% for MX factory.

My point is what Buell is doing, especially considering their production work is final assembly only, makes 100% good common sense and good business practice. They have the manufacturing capacity to build more than they can sell so there is no good business reason to build inventory. Since H-D is also furloughing their engine mfg plants, Buell would only be able to build 1125's if Rotax still had the pipeline full of engines.

Buell is doing nothing different than 70% of the business' still in business.

"Buell dealer are dropping like flies"

I'm not as diplomatic as Court. I call it like I see it. You play fast and loose with truth intent on badmouthing Buell. You don't own one, yet you are on a Buell Enthusiasts' forum badmouthing the brand, the company and the bikes.

That's all I need to see, troll. Take a hike. You've been warned before. Enough is enough.

It's not so much, in my eyes, a question of diplomacy. Paul has made a lot of statements that, in my opinion are patently, inaccurate and has been unable to back them up.

I just don't think he knows much about business, Buell or Harley-Davidson.

The wonder of the internet, I say again, is that it's one of the few places in the world where mental midgets and MENSA folks share the same playground.

I'm still, however, curious to hear any facts to support his ascertains. . . maybe just one dealership that "dropped like a fly".

It's what happens when the mouth writes checks the brain can't cash.

Hahaha thank you for that one, court. I haven't had a good laugh all day, and you just fixed that for me! Oh man!

The following dealers (claim to) have dropped Buell in the last few months:

Legacy Harley-Davidson in Odessa, Texas
Warren Harley-Davidson in Warren, Ohio
West Bend Harley-Davidson in Hartford, Wisconsin
Spitzies Harley-Davidson, Albany, NY
Laconia Harley-Davison, Laconia, NH

I found that in about 5 minutes of searching on here. I didn't call any of them and verify, just going by word of mouth based on posts : )

Laconia Harley-Davison, Laconia, NH

I was in there last week and asked a couple of folks about this. They looked at me with blank stares and said that was news to them I wonder if it's just the shop up in N. Conway.

An interesting statistic would be how many dealers are thinking about dropping Buell. Both of my closest local dealers have a bare bones inventory of bikes, parts, and/or accessories (at least compared to other dealers I've been to, and certainly HD). When asked why they carry so little Buell-related products, they say they are thinking of dropping the brand. Will they? Who knows, I certainly hope not! Both places I mention have great staff based on my interactions. The HD and the Buell models have a hard time co-existing, it seems.

Guess it's official, Pikes Peak HD/B is no longer Buell.

It's funny how some like to portray the Buell dealership climate. When a dealership has a lot of Buells on the floor, they are doing poorly because they aren't selling. When they have few Buells on the floor, they are doing poorly because they aren't keeping up their inventory.

Gossip sucks.

For what its worth I was in Battlefield HD in York Pa. They also have dropped Buell. What I dont understand is when you ask WHY??? you get no response... just well its what the owners decided to do. No reason!!

It's not gossip when the explanation comes directly from the owner when asked why they stock so little.

When an owner posts here directly and is willing to answer the hard questions, then it won't be gossip.

Until then, it damn sure is gossip.

That is a good thing. I am more than happy to drive right by PPHD (30 miles North) to go to a great dealer (110 miles North)

I have only seen 2 dealers that have an openly expressed hatred towards Buells and Buell riders. PPHD was one of them.

Bad dealerships hurt the image of Buell.

As far as PPHD, I really hope, by giving all my business to board sponsors and telling everyone to go to HCHD, I helped with that decision.
