I tried to put some bar ends on to eliminate some vibes I have been getting but I ran into an issue. The traction grips overhand the clipons by a good amount. On the right side it is 1/2-3/4 inch and on the left side it is 1/4-1/2 inch. I tried to slide the controls in a bit, but then the holes to mount the switches don't line up. I see 2 sets of holes in the clipons, but the other set is even further out. What is going on? | ||

sure cant! if you want to add weight to your bar ends, put some lead or shot in it before sliding your traction grips on! they hold stuff inside your bars perfectly! or give those silly traction grip things to me  | ||

i tried putting bar ends on a set of the traction grips first. i carefully cut out the ends and put some cool looking anodized aluminum ends from American sport bike.. i ran it for 3 weeks and decided they looked like junk so i bought another set of the traction grips, cut off and trashed the old ones, installed the new ones and ive been happy ever since. | ||

Umm, get longer bolts, about 4-5 washers for each side, put those next to the bar weight and you'll have enough extension to install them. Lead shot in a small baggie for easier removal/installation. | ||

So it IS normal for the traction grips to overhang the bars? This seems really weird to me. ac | ||

Well, even the stock grips hang out some. I had an issue with mine sticking on the throttle side when I first added bar weights instead of that little plastic cap. That was an easy fix to a potentially dangerous problem. A sticking throttle is not fun. | ||

This is very strange. All of the other bikes I have owned the grips ended with the bars. Why are there multiple control holes? ac | ||

the extra holes are for the ability to put the bar on either side is my observation. less spares required. tim | ||

That makes sense. The bars can't be turned around to move the holes more towards the triple, can they? ac | ||

My CR has the Traction grips with the stock bar ends... You just have to be careful about making sure you open the right side up enough to allow the grip to twist freely. The left side also has to be opened, but not as carefully. Mike | ||

1_mike, The stock "bar ends" are not really what I had in mind. I was looking for something with some weight to it to help reduce vibes. Anyone have pics of some weighted bar ends installed? ac | ||

I have 2 sets - cold and warm weather. Cold weather, I move the grips inboard as far as possible and bar sticks out. Made these in my garage.  When it warms up, I put on the generic metric ones. Bars each have a bag of bird-shot, 140 gms.  Z | ||

Zac, How are you moving the grips? Everything seems set based on where the factory drills the clips. I tried to install some Suzuki bar ends I had lying in the garage. They are designed like just about all bar ends I have seen to butt up against the end of the clip. Currently my grips overhang a good amount and these would not work. Would a pic with my stock "plugs" removed make this clearer? ac | ||

You can see the end of the bar in the top pic, it sticks out about 1/2" past the grip. I drilled new index holes in the bars so I could relocate the grips inboard. The stock placement has my heated grips ending at the end of the bars. Keeps my hands a little warmer in the Winter and a little cooler in the Summer. Z |
