It appears that the 4th re flash has made the 2008 similar to the 2009 in the ECU department. 2009 brought different springs in the forks, a longer by 2.8 inch bike, oil capacity decreased .3 quarts. The alternator is slightly stronger. The bike appears to have one half inch more ground clearance for 09. A different swing arm maybe? Any other changes I'm missing? Given the recalls and updates available for the 08 today, which would you go with?

The oil capacity didn't decrease, it's always been 2.7 quarts. Only the CR has a longer wheel base due to using a different swingarm for the lower gearing on the same belt.

My 08 is solid now and at the prices difference between the 08 and 09, it's hard to justify spending the extra cash.

Go with the updated 08' for the $'s. Unless the money is not a factor. BTW, the oil cap is the same b/t the years.

Enjoy it, I do, everyday for the last 20,000 miles.

I vote get the 09 but I don't have an 1125 yet.

All the dealers, Corporate people, and 08 owners here say the buy the 08 some have had no problems.

If your retired, get the 08. if your busy or don't like dealer visits, get the 09.

I also vote for the 2008 model. Brap's point about dealer visits is obviated by the fact that a new 2008 purchased now would already have all the updates performed before ever leaving the dealer. Be smart, save money, ride home happy!

I'm very happy with my '08, price was right ($9500 OTD), then it was just a matter of getting the attention of the service department. Runs great with the various upgrades done.

Some '08's are great and some are not, mine was a major POS that spent a ton of time in the shop, and they still couldn't figure out why it was doing some of it.

Buy an 08 if you have a good dealer and want to really get to know them, or buy an 09 and have fun riding.

i have had two 2008's and the only issue beside my oil changes was the belt broke on one of them which took two days and was covered under warranty.

I'd go 08 if I wanted black. If you gotta have red or that sexy white and blue then go 09.

Whatever you do, don't let "issues" scare you away from the 08. All updates will be done before you take delivery, plus there are plenty of us that have been riding happily and issue free on the 08 model.

It's your money so in the end it's up to your personal preference I guess.

The latest flash sorted the 08's injection problems. I just bought my second 08 1125r, and I'm very happy with the decision given the great price.

Yea, I'll have some of the same issues (expect the clutch leak, etc.) but an enormous number of them (kick stands, blinkers, recalls, etc) have been sorted now and shouldn't be an issue.

1125r #1, with 34,000 miles... went on the track!

The only reason to go '09, in my opinion, is for the CR.

Get an 08 and buy the 09 white plastics. Even after that, you will be way ahead in the money game.

The '08 is a steal right now. There's no other bike in the $9k range that's even close.

Thanks all Sounds like an 08 is a good choice. I can update the fork springs when I service the forks or have a free Sunday. I figured since they brought out a new model they probably didn't do much to the R. The CR would be nice but given the handle bar location why not get the fairing. I'm really surprised they didn't put more of the XB 'S' bars on it.
I assume my back and wrists will adapt to the riding position over time.

There is an accessory handlebar kit for the CR that makes it more like the XB12S riding position if that's what you want.

My 08 rocks, a few small problems here and there but that is what I expected buying a first year production bike.

Do what best suites your wallet, either way you will be happy.

Maybe Teach will chime in with pics of his upright bar conversion on his 1125R. Nice clean install that would give you a good idea as to what's possible.

I still wish that there was a comprehensive list of things that need to be fixed on the 2008 models.

I tried to start a thread on the subject, but I could not get any 1125R owners to participate.

I should think that such a list would be invaluable both to riders who are buying a new or a used '08, so they can verify that all updates have been made.

Anyone like to start?

As far as product and safety campaigns, it's an easy check at H-Dnet(dealership) with your VIN.

Enter the VIN and you get all applicable campaigns and their status - complete or open.

That list gets you close, but doesn't include things like the 'noid.

Neil, I forgot about your convertibars (that's what they're called, right?), which is certainly another option! I just had Teach's setup in my head since I had just seen it at the Western Reserve gathering.

Ccryder, what kind of windscreen is that you have? I think I need one of those...

Edit: Or I could be retarded and it just looks like it arches higher than the stock one in the picture. If that's the case, can anyone make a good recommendation for windscreens that aren't too high? I was looking at the +3 at www.americansportbike.com, perhaps.

Any chance you could post of pic of what it looks like with you sitting on the bike? I'm just under 6' and when I ride I can see the upper surface of the stock screen if I'm not at all tucked, trying to find a screen that will lift the wind without being obnoxiously tall and breaking the lines of the fairing.

Regardless, thanks for the info and the newer picture.

Come on, they are really called farkles.

The Etymology of "Farkle" is murky. It was in use at least by the late nineteen-nineties, circa 1997.

The word may be a combination (portmanteau) of "function" and "sparkle." One source attributes the term to a member of the Honda ST1100 user group [1].

Another source claims that farkle was a term originally used for the multiple tail lights that Honda Goldwing riders used in the late 80's and early 90's. They would flash or sparkle when the brakes were applied, thus farkle may be a combination of those two words[citation needed].

Although the term Farkle is most likely attributed to a member of the Honda ST1100 group the Backronym originated from an entry in the Concours Owners Group forum. As stated a Farkle is a:

F.ancy
A.ccessory
R.eally
K.ool &
L.ikely
E.xpensive
