So Fontana (i.e. Auto Club Speedway) is coming up March 20 - 22. Does someone know definitively which specific races the 1125's are going to be running in? I don't know if I can make both Saturday and Sunday (Friday is out of the question). If I have to choose one or the other, which day am I likely to see more Buells fighting it out?

Thanks,

Marco

I'll be there. The 1125R's will mostly be in the Daytona Sportbike class. Thats what the Daytona 200 was. It is similar to what was Formula Xtreme class. Its the same class the XBRR was developed for.

Shawn Higbee should have a 1125R in Daytona Superbike.

They should also be running the ST (sport twin)class, there will be Buells for sure in that one, possibly even some XB's.

It should be a good event for Buell fans.

Fontana Schedule (AMAPRORACING.COM)

They're running Race 1 on Sat, Race 2 Sunday... so if you only have one day, it'd probably be Sunday for you.

Higbee is still the only Buell entered in Superbike.

In Daytona Sportbike it's Eslick, Higbee, Barnes, Bryan, Schmidt, Bemisderfer. Pinson is entered on the R6 it's likely Pinson's ONLY running the 1125R in Moto-GT1

R2s:

I don't see a "Sport Twin" class. Is that the same as SuperSport?

Regardless, I'm going Sunday for sure, Saturday if I can pull it off. Thanks for the advice all . . .

I see WSBK, MotoGP & Supercross, but not seeing AMA roadracing on SpeedTV's schedule right now. Will have to keep my eyes open for schedule updates.

My understanding of the TV coverage is, starting March 21st, they will have AMA coverage every Saturday evening (around 10 or 11?).

But since there aren't races every weekend and since some races will be on Sundays, they'll stretch things out and show them on delay.

The March 21st show will likely be devoted to Daytona with coverage of the Superbike race, Supersport race and Moto-GT.

The show on the 28th will probably be devoted to Fontana. Depending on the schedule and when races are running, they'll probably split some coverage and if there is a long break between races spend a couple different weeks showing races from one weekend.

They'll also have filler. Interviews with riders etc.

Well, it least it will be easier to program the DVR.

Its now called the Sun Trust MotoGT, and the ST class is now called GT2. GT2 is for large twins over 390lbs. Sorry I'm still getting used to all the changes. And I'm still not seeing a schedule. The new AMA Road Racing Site is kinda lacking on the info.

And with the sweet deal the DMG/AMA made with SPEED TV Puts the races on on saturday nights 2 weeks after they take place.

Ya, how lame!

OK, so I got my tickets to Fontana on 3/22. They are offering something called "fan laps" for $10 more, but there's not much of a description. Has anyone done this? How exactly does it work? Do I need safety wiring or any of that? Any other helpful info would also be appreciated.

I've seen it done at Barber before.

Bring a pillow so you can take a nap, or a book to read to keep you occupied as you SLOWLY parade around the track at sub street pace.

There will be cruisers, Goldwings, scooters, etc.....so the pace will be very sedate.

But if you want to do a lap around the track, it's probably worth the $10.

The one exception to the parade lap I saw was at Road America. The guy leading that lap was movin' on pretty good, but still not as fast as a good street pace, but certainly faster than a parade lap.

Last year, I was up front with 7 other riders(Oz666 was next to me) on the "Parade lap".
I looked at my speedo once, on the straight and we were doing 104 mph.
We caught up with the back of the pack after 2 laps.

A couple of years ago at Fontana some dummy at the front crashed about half a lap into it. There was about two hundred pissed off people because of that.

Hm. Any other takes on this? I'm down for 104. Lugging around the block I can do in my own neighborhood.

I called about it today, and all the guy could tell me was (1) bring a helmet, (2) sign a waiver, and (3) stay behind the pace car. Lotta room for interpretation.

I think 104 on an parade lap is a rarity. I have seen a few at Laguna Seca and it's sort of a joke. I don't really see the fun in ride around in a huge pack at 40 mph or less--but then I don't like riding with more than 3-4 bikes anyway

If the IDIOTS unzip their pants the way it happened at Road America at homecoming, you can bet it'll be the end of parade laps.

You shouldn't have to red-flag a parade lap for an ambulance - but they did.

If you "NEED" to go fast on a racetrack, go to a track day... don't get your rocks off on a parade lap. It is after all called a "PARADE LAP." RA got out of control and was an embarrassment to witness.

Keep it zipped up.

We followed the lead and held our positions.
Nobody up front had any trouble.
A youngster wadded his Blast, trying to be a racer.

Guess I'm lucky to have been on a fast lap.
I giggled like a schoolgirl for hours.
