Just wondering if anyone out there has ridden a CR yet? Just curious about your experience, specifically about the heat and fueling....obviously this is for a comparison to the R. Just trying to see if all the hype might be true...

Hi, Rob here, work for SkipFordyce HD/Buell in Riverside, CA..and i ride most of the bikes...I rode the new CR a few miles or so...will say its way better than expected for a new bike which is not broken in...the heat was way lower!...at 103 engine temp degrees or so..around town in riverside, ca..where the 1125R demo with 600 miles was overheating in traffic at 200 degress engine temp or so...no updates.

the motor comes on with the lower overall gearing..8% lower making it accelerate harder from light to light(they say 0-60 at around 2.5 secs in spec brochure)...wants to wheelie easier up to 3rd gear with no clutch...i would get one!...........the clubman bars make it more aggressive and more forward but not uncomfortable..would like to see one setup with the optional bars..higher rise like the XB lightning...its under 200.00 for the whole kit..bars and longer cables.....Have a good one.....we sold a black one now have a red one on the floor ready to go...

Rob

the heat was way lower

Can you elaborate on this? You only rode it a few miles around town, but it was also 103. Do you remember the coolant temp on that ride?

103 coolant engine temp. It was a hot uppper 90's day as usual in some traffic and then opened up to 4th gear 70 mph then back to traffic lights....

No way 103 was the stable engine coolant temp.

Rob, based on your posts here and in at least one other thread, seems like you are trying to sell a CR here rather than giving us some unbiased observations.

I agree there is no way that 103 could be the operating temperature--the thermostat doesn't even open up until 157 degrees.

Anyone else ridden a CR yet? Please post up.

Well, 103 Celsius might be right.
Conversions are as this: Celsius to Fahrenheit
100 C = 212.0 F
103 C = 217.4 F

That or engine temp = ambient PLUS 103F.

OR he was looking at the AT and thinking it was CT.

To me a significantly cooler engine would be one that runs in the 190s during the hot, slow riding sessions....and only ventures into the 200s during extreme cases. I guess this would equate to a 15-20 degree drop from the R.

I rode on at Mid-Ohio at the Inside Pass day. I liked it a lot. The riding position is pretty sporty as the bars drop reasonably far. I believe the pegs were the same as the 1125R.

I rode both bikes one session apart, they have the same power, but the CR had much better throttle response below 4K. Exiting the keyhole (turn 4) I didn't want to shift and was caught a gear too high on both bikes more than once.

The CR pulled nicely with just throttle, the 1125R was very clunky with almost an on/off feel. Both bikes were 09's by the way.

The windblast above 120mph on the CR was pretty ferocious, the 1125R was much nicer to ride at stupid fast speeds.

I didn't notice any heat, but then again I was in full leathers. Also it was hot (near 90) for the east coast.

Handling wise they were close. The CR felt more like my X1. The 1125R felt a little easier to keep on line, but that was probably just me.

Brakes were superb on both.

Again the big differences are the looks, riding position, and power delivery.

Looks wise I think the CR is butt ugly, but I could seriously see owning one. The 1125R in Artic white looked awesome IMHO.

I like the 1125R for the wind protection, but I liked the riding position of the CR. The power deliver made the CR much easier to ride. Must be that lower gearing.

Here is what i posted in another thread

quote:

Ok, I never rode a 08 (or any other 1125), so I can't compare. The 09 CR felt great. It is way different than every XB I have ever ridden. It was fine running around at low speeds. I was doing about 3k for most of my riding on the demo. It felt a lot weaker down low than the XB12's. After about 5 or 6k RPM it is nice and puts down a lot of power. I never got a chance to fully test it because of the demo ride speeds, but overall I am happy with it. Actually as odd as it sounds, my biggest complaint was that it revs too fast. It revs and sounds like an I4 bike. When I squeeze the clutch to up shift, it drops down to idle before my foot can move the shifter! My XB has perfect timing, by time I get it in the next gear; it’s about at where it needs to be for a smooth clutch release. I am sure it is something I would get used to in time.

I will put a deposit down the instant it’s available with 3 standard hard bags and all translucent blue plastics/wheels

Bump...still curious about the CR....probably the best glimpse at what the'08 R will be like after the much anticipated reflash.

Interesting mirror configuration, hyuk-hyuk. Seriously, that's very a badass-looking bike, especially in blaze orange. From the standpoint of function, though, I much prefer the fairing on the R.

I wish they cared more about the welds and how they looked. The handlebars almost look homemade. Maybe thats the look the want? I'm I just being picky?

Looks good... nice horns...
The gearing and aesthetics of the CR vs the noise and weather protection on the R.... hmm...

I didn't realize there was a Muscle there till I looked at the pix.
ALL I saw was the CR.... Kinda looks like a Devil Bike with the mirrors up.

They have a Muscle sitting in the showroom of the HD Plant in KC, Mo. It's not much special, at least to me. The mirrors and tail light are pretty trick, but the exhaust is just out-of-porportion-wide, and the way the airbox dips down in the front looks a little goofy. Other than that, it's pretty standard VRSC stuff.

BTW - While I was at the plant, I saw a number of XR1200s being built. Pictures don't do it justice, and I'm even more pissed that every one of them is going to Europe.

Blue header tubes...na...hopefully they've finally got the fuel mixture right!

Handle bar welds look fine/very good to me.

I'd trust them.
Don't grind on them!

Zac - how has Buell been for shipping lately? My dealer says my CR ships on the 12th, and that HD has been about 3-5 days late lately, but wasn't sure about Buell.

Red is looking orange to me. HD slip in a corporate racing color scheme?

I am curious to see one with the optional bar as well.

I agree. The welds on the frame are visible, but look well done. I like to see some machining and weld work, but the muffler looks like it was fabbed out of recycled WWII helmets and the hood from a '58 Ford.

I couldn't believe how bad the picture came out in the latest Sport Rider magazine review pictures. It looked like crap.

C'mon guys. You can do better with the muffler.

Tig welds on aluminum...don't grind.

FYI, "they" are correctly done...even those found on the frames of 08's that some questioned early on, are per A+ welding principles.

Powercoating and/or painting only aggravate and/or puddle their appearance.

No worries...it is supposed to look that way! : )

I like the muffler. : ) I won't be tempted to change it until I see an aftermarket one that I think is actually better. Cans are usually the first thing I change on my bikes - but not with this one. I think the looks fit the bike, it protects the lower parts, and is an extremely well engineered piece of kit.
