I finally saw one in person today, looks like a combination of a mutant transformer and one of those monkeys with the red arse*.
Reminded me of the "Butt Trumpets" song, "Ugly and don't know why"
YIKES!

*thanks to our brothers from across the pond

Fresno,
I got to ride one yesterday. The bike was great but the ride really sucked. The course they took us on was under construction and over populated with race fans everywhere. My initial impressions were that it's definitely a bit more in your face and it was way smoother than the R including the mirrors. I could take it all the way down to 2K rpm in first gear with no problem at all (I could never do that on my R). I really expected to feel more torque in 2nd and 3rd gear but didn't seem to be there. But you need to keep in mind I really didn't get an opportunity to flog the bike. The demo rides was more like a parade lap out to the interstate and back with tons of state troopers and tons of cagers everywhere. The most interesting that I noted on the CR and 09 R was that the fuel vent tube now runs out through the left rear strut \ foot peg. Running through heavy traffic getting the bikes pretty hot I noticed fuel dripping like crazy out of an R that was sitting next to me at a stop light. All the new colors are great but none of them compare to the original black and blue. If I think of any more crap relevant I will post it later.

Dalton.

+1 on the Black and Blue. On a separate noit, took of my passenger pegs today and all I can say is I should have done that day 1. Looks great with an uncluttered rear end and also being able to see that red spring.

So, I assume the demos were all '09s and the R still had gas leaking out of the bike! Do you remember the coolant temps?

To comment on the tig welds, the Buell welds all look washed to me. For sure there's nothing at all wrong with them structurally but a good weld should also look good.

Go look at an aluminum Mongoose bicycle to see what I mean about looking washed. The welds on the bicycle are perfect and look like I'd done it myself.

Talked to "Sales" yesterday about taking our CR for a ride.
"Not yet"

At the end of the day, I saw Mel, one of our "old time" Buellers... he got to be the first customer to go for a ride on it.

I get to ride it today!
Can't wait to go in to work today..

I don`t remember the temps but it wasn`t very hot out. The poor bikes were in a constant parade through traffic and never really given a chance to cool off. Like 8 hours of non stop traffic.

I think that every bike being demoed was an 09.

BTW the new S.E. Road Glide is SWEEEET!

At Last!

One of the sister stores to my local dealer got a Red CR today. There was nobody waiting on that one, so my guy snagged it! Should be here in a day or 2. Can't wait! I'll put up some pics.

Later

Further to low-end improvement on the CR vs the R mentioned in this thread, hopefully Buell will make a kit available for fitting the 76 tooth rear sprocket to the R (drive belt and perhaps speedo require changing, too?). The R is billed as a street bike vs a track bike, so perhaps some of us would value the lower gearing ('perhaps' because I haven't taken delivery of my 09 R yet) for street use. I chose the R over the CR because I wanted the full fairing for the occasional freeway jaunt.

The CR looks MUCH better in person. Black with red trim is SICK. I woulndt want anything that accelerates harder than the 1125R. I have to lean forward at lights to avoid wheelies already.

The Cr is ineed Awesome- Local dealer got theirs in yesterday. I helped uncrate it! They got a red one in though, I'm waiting on black. But it looks awesome! One qoute "it looks like spiderman should ride that" and another friend of mine say "dude thats sexier than the Ducati." Black is in in October, Or I'm thinking of doing an 08 1125r to CR conversion..wish they still had the 675 deal.

I was waiting on the black one, I like em both, and had the opportunity to get the Red one now. Getting prepped as we speak. Oh, and in a previous post, I mistakenly indicated that the black ones are faster. I was wrong. Red is definitely faster.

I have not ridden one, but I did see and sit on one today at Western Reserve. Over all I like the look, but they should have done something with the front of the scoops. They stick out past the little front fairing thing, and I just don't care for that. That red and black color combo looks good too.

Today I rode the CR.
Didn't flog it, just took an easy ride to my house and back.
Didn't look or sound like Loretta, but ran smoother than she did at her best.
Seemed a little softer, power-wise, but it only had 80 miles on it so far.
I forgot how uncomfortable the OEM seat and pegs were.

The display was waaaay different.
No more CT and AT on the same screen.

One is Gear and AT, the other is CT and BATT.
Guess my Kuryakyn voltmeter is useless now...

AT was lo to mid 80s and CT got up to 190˚ when i was idling for a few minutes.
178-184˚ when running over 45mph.

I missed the fairing, you can't see anything of the front-end past the display.
It looked like I was riding a unicycle... handling seemed the same as my R.
I didn't feel much change with the gearing, guess I expected more.

I tried "tucking" and things got a little quieter, I'd hate to hit sand or hail...

Good details, Zac. Nice to hear someone that is so experienced with the R....

Seems to me that the best combo would certainly be Gear + CT. THe ambient temp is useless for the most part.

Who made that decision I wonder...
