Jotrevza,

Yes there is a re-flash coming; it was announced to the dealers at the show a few weeks ago, and will be available in the fall. The cal is done now, but has to finish going through the full homologation paperwork deal, and being turned into the format that can be downloaded through Digital Tech. It addresses a number of items and should make almost everyone happy. And, unlike the Triumph that never got addressed in 3 years, we are stepping up with improvements.

Adoogie's tech was correct on one point, the re-flash earlier was almost completely around charging and cooling improvements, not significantly addressing the fuel map, because a major fuel map re-do requires full homologation and certification again.

Court,
I remember way back in school, a good example of how things get twisted. As I remember, the teacher told a short story to one student with everyone else watching. Then he told it to another and so on and so forth. It was quite humorous watching the details change as it was repeated over and over with almost every person altering it.

Anon,
That makes sense. I'm sure the paperwork and hoops the feds make you jump thru are annoying. I wish things could be fixed without having to get every bureaucrat and his pigeon toed cousin's approval. It gets more ridiculous every year.

I know you have to meet a decibel level but, if there's any way in the future, could ya'll try an get the sound deeper in tone. Its my problem with every bike I hear stock. To much high pitched whistling (intake noise?) and other racket and not enough rumble. With the noose ever tightening around us for aftermarket exhausts many would be satisfied stock if it sounded "tougher". Well, enough of this nagging.

Or another thought on the exhausts would be to make the stock cans easily alterable. So, when you build it to meet the miles of red tape, just make it so a few easy modifications can be done (like a bolt in removable baffle set, or an end cone or something) after the bike has been sold. That way you can meet the regs and also meet the demands of the customer. So far I like the look of the stock system better than all the aftermarkets, it blends in nice with the lines of the bike and looks angry, but it doesn't have that Flowmaster 50 series throat that I like.

Looking forward to the flash though, and I love the fact that Buell actually listens to their customers. Try getting HonKawaYamaSuz to do anything other than copy each other.

Thespive If you dont think so maybe you can fix it for me while I ride my bike to the track.keyboard chump!!

Call me what you want, but you should be thanking me for cleaning up your post, making it more accessible to anyone who didn't feel like taking the effort to decipher your original posting. And trust me, it took A LOT of effort.

I did not personally attack you, but helped to transform your incongruous writing style in to something that was easily understandable to all. I even gave you an attaboy at the end for your interesting info.

May I suggest that when you step in to the world of text-based communication, that you put a little more effort in to your postings. This would guarantee that more people are likely to read what you have to say and interact with you in a positive way.

If there is one thing I am sure of, attitudes will get you nowhere on BadWeB. I have seem plenty of folks weeded out of the BadWeB community because of the lack of respect for other BadWeBbers. In case you haven't noticed, this is a special place on the net where we all like to come together to discuss our passion for Buell motorcycles. Sometimes we argue and debate, but always we can sit down for a beer at the end of the discussion or go for a ride. This is one of the most behaved forums in all of the web, and it is because we respect each other and don't turn discussions in to personal attacks.

Sounds pretty much like what I have written several of you privately. The re-flash is done, tested and ready. It's going to take some time, bear in mind that not only the U.S.A. E.P.A. has to approve this but South Africa, Italy and Columbia as well. That takes time.

There is also a gap between writing the "re-flash" and transmogrifying it into a form compatible to be donwloaded, installed, monitored and serviced via the Harley-Davidson Digital Technician® protocols.

In addition, as I have shared with some of you, (and this is my PERSONAL OPINION as a construction worker) I expect the periodic re-flashes to keep coming from Buell.

  • They are doing things that have never been done in the auto or motorcycle industry - new technology.
  • The technology is advancing rapidily.
  • The same folks developing the code for the re-flash are avid riders, we're not telling them anything they don't already know (but the input is welcome)
  • Buell has a stellar history of keeping it's riders up to date. I, like the Triumph folks, am still waiting for BMW to fess up to the problems with the marque from 8 years ago. To date the best they have is "rider error".

Buell is an amazing company, comprised of amazing folks doing amazing things. You ain't seen nothing yet.

It's funny to me how different preferences can be between buyers, and how it can create a real problem for a motor company.

You want more noise. You would put on aftermarket exhaust.

I'd rather have a completely silent motorcycle that I could drive off at 5am for a ride and not disturb the neighbors. Or, whiz by a nice twisty road and not let Mr. Krupke dickhead taxman in blue I'm coming.

As it is today, I push the 1125r down to the end of the driveway before I start 'er up. My neighbors don't come home at midnight with truck stereos booming, and I try to not blap, blap, blap in the early morning in exchange.

Agreed, Court.

I made my first trip to East Troy a few weeks ago.

While there, I met Erik and mostly blathered like a teenager about how much I loved my Loretta.
Also met a couple of "high-ups" and talked at length.
Dunno last names, but Bruce has a beautiful "Voltage" Lightning and Ed plays rhythm in The Thunderbolts.
Thanks for the great time guys!

This is a very real company.
I feel deep sympathy for you who have your 11s in the shop.

I start to twitch after 2 or 3 days without riding Loretta.

The university or the country? When will Buells be available in Ecuador? I want one for the vacation house! (Uly since the roads are either great or terrible)

Hey Annony, Is the paperwork harder now? (more hoops?) You guys cranked out several updates pretty fast back in 99 to get the first fuellies running. I think three or four updates between Dec-June?

My 1125R is running better than my 99 S3 did originally.

From Cuil.com (the better google)
Transmogrifier

A transmogrifier is a fictional device used for transforming one object into another object. Though the word "transmogrifier" was coined by Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes, its parent words, "transmogrify" and "transmogrification", existed previously, though their exact origins are unknown.

So now we are stuck. The new map must be transmogrified. But since we don't have a transmogrifier it can't happen!

I've had my Ulysses coming up on three years. Longest I've ever kept a bike.

I keep hearing about bad bearings (which I had replaced), and bad fans (which I had replaced), and bad bank angle sensor location (which I had moved), and bad sidestands (which I had replaced), and bad stator/regulators (which crapped on on a ride and I had to have replaced), and bad brake pads (which I had replaced), and the list goes on.

People have been trying to convince me that it's a bad bike. And they may be right. But when I get on it and ride it, it's fantastic. When I have a problem, the folks on this forum are fantastic.

And it's the ONLY bike I've ever owned that I've been able to shake the hand of the guy who started the company, watch a race (in person) with him, talk to him and have him cut up with me at the dealer show (which I sneaked into), and the only bike I've owned that I've actually seen being made and talked to the workers who built it, step by step.

Buell IS an amazing company. I don't know for a fact, but I get the impression that the folks who work there are riders, just like us. Maybe not all of them, but I'm betting a number of them are.

Their bikes may not be perfect (none are), but the company and it's employees have "soul" and "passion", and I think that is reflected in the job they do. And it shows in their bikes.

Too bad we live in a world where companies fear litigation so information can not be given out freely to their customers. It would be nice if posters did not have to go anonymous or fear losing their jobs for giving customers the straight scoop.

I also think many of the complaints and rants are made by people who have no idea what actually goes into designing, manufacturing, and selling a motorcycle in today's regulated environment. I know I don't.

I will just say that I am a completely demanding consumer who is never happy with anything unless I can complain about it.

Even with all my reservations about Buell's I'd buy one tomorrow if I could afford two bikes right now. As it is, gimme a year.

I've been to East Troy 5 times and also lead a BRAG ride with Erik as my wing man.

Oh yea, I'm waiting for the next flash also. Its just going to make a great bike even better!

How cool is that!

"Oh yea, I'm waiting for the next flash also. Its just going to make a great bike even better!"

"How cool is that!"

It's just too bad it had to involve for some, multiple trips to the dealer, and anxiety over whether it will be fixed correctly, and how long will they keep it?, what else will go wrong?

It is very good that Buell backs up their product. I went to my dealer today only to find out that their only Buell trained mechanic quit. And although the replacement is a good mechanic he has no Buell training.

Probably should have bought from Liberty in the first place cause now it sounds like I may be going there for any problems.

It is great that buell does stand behind their product, too bad some couldn't get their warranties extended for the time they're out their machines.

As I walked out the showroom door there was a new blue and white xb12r. Damn it was sharp. I wonder... an xb12r and an 1125r...
Nahh, she'd never go for that.

Anony, no disrespect meant but can you please expand on the comment you made in reference to Triumph. Thanks.

Remind me sometime to tell you about the time I rode my Triumph Daytona675 150 miles to Homestead-Miami for an "Inside Pass" event and when my time came to ride the 1124r were all "out of service" with "technical issues". I was a bit disappointed but after 3 more track sessions that day, well it just didn't matter anymore. Almost everything I ride puts a grin on my face, they're all good!

OK folks flame away if you must. I'm just telling it like it is. Oh yea, no recalls of the Daytona675 in the three years they've been in production.

Hi Anonymous,

I sure learned a new word today!

Thank you for your insight! I appreciate both your response, and, as always, fellow Buellers' rush to defense of the company. It's truly heartening to see that, and I don't take it personal. I do, however, have to say that the process seems very slow to me. I'm not pointing fingers at any one agency or entity, just trying to make a larger point.

I'm as hopeful as any of the rest of my fellow Bueller's that any and all fixes come in a timely manner, and an acknowledgement that we're not imagining the concerns we have when they arise.

The service dept. mgr. at the dealership I bought from has a BAD habit of throwing his hands in the air and stating: "I don't know, or, we don't know anything about that/those issues"! When I call corporate to find out what's up, I'm on indefinite hold each and every time??? It should come as no surprise that eventually, no effective response to a problem results in increased frustration for the owner.

O.K., I've sure beat that dead Pega-horse to death!

Anyway, thanx for the reassurance. It's appreciated.

Take care, Tracy

Nice twin those SV's, been around 4 awhile and all sorted out. Several of my bud's have dedicated SV's for the track.

I rode Barber for the 1st time a few weeks ago at a D675 sponsored event. Nice track, hope to do it again....... on a 1125r.

"there were thousands of miles of R&D done"

"just ride it"

And my personal favorite from my sales person...

I love my sales person! Very professional!

On a happier note, I have never had any major problems contacting Buell. They have been very helpful, and know there stuff.

Mainstreamer,

The comment was in reference to an earlier post by Jotrevza:
"I'm just wondering what it will take to get these problems under control? It reminds me of a friend's Triumph Daytona from a few years ago. It was a really nice bike, but, he couldn't get the fuel injection to straighten out no matter what he did, or, who he took it to. He brought the bike to some of the finest tuners in the northwest over a period of about three years, and then finally gave up and sold the bike."

The '09 1125's and the updated '08's are going to be really, really good. Much better than some bikes that haven't gotten much grief, even though they have issues. We will prevail.

That's what I'm waiting for. I'd like to follow in the tire tracks of those here who have converted the R into a ST. Nice work Baggermike and Ccryder.

Anony, I'd like to see an ST model. My insurance agent tells me that rates are lower for rigs that come from the factory with panniers installed.

A alternative would be an accessory Touring Kit(s) from the factory. Stage 1 would include bars, control cables, and lower pegs. Stage 2 would include hard panniers and the mounts. The kits would allow Buell to take a little cream from those who want an ST. What do you think??
