I have an '06 CityX (first bike) and I am looking to move up. I am going to test ride the 1125R this weekend. I am sure I am going to love it like I do the CityX. So my question is; should I get the '08 or wait for the '09?
I have been reading this forum for about a month now and have been reading a lot about mapping issues with the '08. Is this something that is going to be fixed on the '09? Are there any significant differences with the '09?

Thanks in advance.

Ride safe.

wait till the 08's are on clearance!!

THEN go and buy one and then go do the same mods to your 08 that every single one of us will be doing to ours to reap the benefits of the 09 solutions.

or just buy one when the 09's come out.. but it is seriously hard to wait when the opportunity shows itself... like when your local dealer has one in the showroom and you HAVE to walk by it to get to parts or service dept.

I got mine December 18th.
I paid 13k out the door and would have paid another grand to get her a week earlier.
She was "broke-in" by Christmas.
There are over 11,600 miles on the Odo.

I can't imagine "waiting" for this bike.

Zac & I were at about the same odometer reading for a while. I bought mine Jan 15th and it was in for its first service exactly 1 week later.
Had about 11,000 on the clock when I dumped it and now it'll be in the shop for at least another month.
I'll have some catching up to do.

BTW, to get back on topic, I would wait until the 2009s are out and scoop up a 2008 for cheap and then get all the upgrades done to make it functionally equivalent to the 2009.

If Buell would announce that ALL the upgrades, including the ecm map, fuel injectors and O2 sensor location (new headers) will be available at no charge, I'd go buy an 08 tomorrow. I just don't think that'll be the case. Most I see being free is the ecm map, so I'll wait.

I picked up my 1125r on december 4th. And it wasn't soon enough. I don't know how anyone could wait for this bike. It was literally killing me. I lost sleep over it.
But since its getting close to the release of the 2009's you might as well wait it out.
Unless you get a badass deal on a 2008.

The 08s will have more collector value than 09s... besides, the 09s seem to have lost the midnight "Buell blue" frame, which kinda sucks.

Collector value?

My dealer is already giving deals on the '08s. He's offering $1200 off the price, will give me $500 more on my trade, and it comes with the $675 in Buell P&A.

But I want a CR, so I'm waiting.

I would buy the 08 now. Unless you are sold on an 09 color....

As for the ecm map, the 08's are going to be getting that. I don't know what the value of the new fuel injectors and 02 sensor location will be (as in, how does it change the rideability of the bike).

Aight, aight... I see how it's gonna be, gangsta.

I personally like the blue frame, so I'll give you that. But I woudln't plan on any difference in collector value, nor would I be willing to wait for that to come to fruition.

Buying a motor vehicle, motorcycle or otherwise, as an investment is just plain foolish.

You pickin' up what I be layin' down, foo?

I'm keeping mine forever... you're probably not as fanatical as I am.

At any rate, when my great, great grandgangstas restore it and auction it off, its value will be heightened by the fact that it is an '08--- the year when the USA (by then a province of Superpower Canada, excluding all "Jesusland" territories thank you very much) made its first mass-produced Superbike. 25th Anniversary. With Erik Buell's Signature on it.

What can you say about an '09? That it has spools, a marginally better fuel system and more color choices? Come on...

Marginally better fuel system is yet to be seen.

Every 2008 Buell was a "25th Anniversary Edition", so that really adds nothing. All anyone has to do is look at HD's anniversary models. They're not worth much more than years right before or right after.

Now, a Corvette Anniversary edition, where there were things that set them apart from a regular corvette of the same year, are worth a little more.

Anyways, take a look at something like the Camaro. 1967 was it's first year, but they typically bring less money on average than a 1969 model.

Or the 1984 Corvette, when America was finally able to offer an up-to-date, world-class sports car. They still suffered from a hokey fuel-injection setup (ring a bell?), and generally worth less than well-sorted examples of slightly more recent model years.

I'm all for you keeping the bike forever. I said that about my first bike. That was 2 bikes ago, lol.

I'm not going to get into an argument about who's more fanatical - the person who buys one Buell and keeps it forever, or the person who keeps buying new Buells, pumping cash into the company and living the enhancements to engineering that makes these bikes great. : )

Simi Valley Buell in Moorpark, CA has 2 left at $9,995, like $11,750 OTD plus you get the free $675 accessory incentive

Buy '08 for sure...If they're going to offer all the '09 updates for free, what's the real advantage to an '09? Plus, wouldn't you rather be in our exclusive "diamond blue frame and wheels" club?

Wait for the '09's you'll be happier in the long run. From what I've read here and my experience at an Inside Pass event, I'd say many of the '08's have come up a little short on what was promised by Buell, I'll call them 1124r's.

Several changes to the '09's are suppose to address those shortages. Time will tell.

I waited 4 months after I traded my Firebolt to get my 1125R.
It can be done, I had no choice but walk away.
Someone else did and I got the first one in Colorado.

Make your choice or don't, either way you make a choice.

Ultimately, you'll be on an amazing motorcycle.

If you can wait for the '09 after your test ride you have a stronger will than I do.

In some respects, it's a crapshoot. Is the trade-off of holding-off riding an 1125R for a few months worth the additional benefits akin to the model you'll ultimately be riding? Are the benefits of the new model going to be worth it to you? I don't know that you can know for sure, but you can assume Buell has addressed some of the growing-pains with the current model, in the next, so there will be fewer things to vex you.

If it were me, for the same money, I'd wait the 2 or 3 months to buy. If I was going to get a $2K break, or better, I'd go with the 2008.

Tell me about it. I'm in the same boat. I wanted to put my deposit down on an '09, but the rent was due and it would have made me a little tight.

I can't take it anymore. That damn test ride has ruined me. The cityX just isn't as fun as it was pre 1125r demo.

IF I can get the dealer to give me a good price on an 08, I may just have to pull the trigger.
