Im lucky to go 15 miles on reserve with my Dyna. Damn stretched tank holds a whopping 3.5 gallons but only about 2.5 of it is usable due to the high placement of the petcock. Stock tank I could go 160 miles & then another 35 or so on reserve. Now im lucky to get 100 miles before I have to stop. | ||

Hmm. I'm really enjoying my new DRZ400S. 70mpg on the first tank riding it home from LA. Now I'm getting around 60 mpg in combined street / fire road / trail riding. Too much fun. Hans; That clip is hysterical - it's true though. However, after a mounting class action suit, Apple has dropped the price for battery replacement to about $90 - aftermarket around $80. And if you're not timid about popping an iPod open, you can buy the battery for about $50 and install it yourself. And yes, I have several back-up copies of all my music  Henrik | ||

Hans, don't worry about it - those guys make some pretty funny clips. You should take a look at their Holland Tunnel clip - it's probably more fun for me since I've been sitting in that "35 minute" delay myself ... on the Buell ... in 100° weather ... in full leathers. Also, if I'd bought an iPod at that time, I'd certainly want to know what I was getting myself into - so thanks for looking out. So far I really like the iPod. Still haven't tested it out on the bike though. But it has decent sound, even through good ear phones, holds my address book and calender, and functions as a tiny, portable harddrive at the same time. Henrik | ||

Hey Jim_SB, thanks for the directions to Cycle World. Nice running into U guys in the middle of no where. That Little Tujunga Rd. is great! Still can't find a tank bag for that Tuono. I see it as too short a wheelbase. The longer the wheelbase, the more forgiving the bike is. These XB suspensions also need careful "setup" for each individual person. And, as written on another day..."??? Is there an inordinate amount of XB accidents or is it just this internet age where we have the opportunity to know much more than we'd otherwise know about (and therefore not really that many accidents...)" ps to EZ: stopped at the Eureka Buell/H-D dealer with the boys during the Four-Play ride last year, and was chagrined at the total lack of Buell passion and enthusiasm in evidence (especially in light of the fact that they were the last stop on the very successful All-Cal BRAG Ride a few years ago). in other words, they need you. | ||

US66... A longer wheel base also makes for a slower responding bike... making it harder to correct your line in an emergency. And I don't buy the whole "stability is the result of a long wheelbase" argument. I think stability is a result of all geometry and suspension factors working together. I rode an XB9, and it was the most planted bike I have ever been on. Quick turning? Heck yes! Stable? Solid as a rock! If long wheelbase == stable handling, then the TL-1000 has some 'splaining to do! | ||

Like Reep said -- although I don't have enough data to prove it, I suspect the the XBs appear to be over-represented in the crash column due to a number of factors . . . . . new riders, new riders to bikes of this type (however you'd classify them), dealerships not seating them up correctly for the rider (I know of a poster on this board that went home with his tires underinflated by something like 12 pounds per square inch . . . .. . . ), and, lastly, the XB series seems to be meeting one of it's presumed goals -- it's selling to younger riders than the tubers . . . . . less experienced, perhaps, more willing to find the endge of the performance envelop (the rider's generally -- most folks of any age can't use all the bike has to offer), and, perhaps, more willing to stand up and talk about crashing (?) | ||

Its not just long wheelbase that contributes. Rake & trail along with how much the frame flexes also account for a huge part of stability | ||

I also think there is the factor that the thing chooses lines and adjusts sooo gracefully that you keep doing what you always did, but now 10mph faster. That was my experience on my one (booring) test ride on a race kitted 9s. Hit a corner, think "wow! That was a much nicer 20 mph turn then my cyclone could do", only to look down at the speedo and see I was actually closer to 30mph. Same deal on the interstate.... I was thinking "ok, I am probably up to 65 or so on this onramp... better chill" only to look down and see closer to 80 on the speedo. I have had two low sides, both minor. Had either been 10mph faster, they could have been... well... really bad. But ultimately, I think it is just the younger demographic. Same thing is happening to the SV-650... | ||
