Quickly- I need to know, is it possible to pull the front cylinder on a '99 S3 without dropping the engine? How hard is it if it is possible?

Essjay. It can be done but you will need to brace up the engine when you pull the front head so it doesn't fall to the floor. It's a tight fit but it can be done.

Firemanjim & Tripper,
replaced the CB's and checked the battery connections. Problem still there. After checking the ignition system, I found the VOES to be defective and replaced it. Back on the road again. Thanks for you input and help, It's good to have the 'lil Mule running again. My honda is nice but can't compare to the Buell.

Oil light coming on my 2001 X1. My oil light started coming on whenever I maintained a RPM of 4,000 or more for a few minutes. It stayed on until the engine returned to idle for a few seconds. I use Mobil V-Twin, oil level is good, no leaks, no measurable puking and bike has 5000 miles. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Checking your oil pump and drive gear might be prudent, but I think if it went out it would be more obvious. I think you can install an in-line pressure gauge to check pressure, could be either a blockage in the line or channels or could just be a faulty switch device. I'd suggest oil level but you said that's okay.

Paul:
For the price of an oil sending unit I would just replace it. Mine went real funny on my S2. Have you had any indicators that you don't have oil pressure like no return flow in the tank, lifters knocking???

Neil,
No indication of low pressure. This is kind of experienced info I was hoping for.
Thanks, Paul

Hey all, I want to give a very special thanks to Hootowl for making a donation to my "Help Me Fix My Buell" fund! I really really appreciate it and I hope all of you don't think badly of me for using the board to solicit for $$$ and I promise not to make it an ongoing SPAM thing.

I did get a compression test which verified that the rings in the back cylinder aren't doing their job. Hopefully I can be up and running by at Spring or sooner:)

I will keep everyone posted on my website and here with the progress.

Finally, I want to thank all of you for helping me along this far by answering all my questions early and helping me to follow the right leads on this problem with my bike. You guys (and gals) and very knowledgeable, and I of coarse don't know much about bikes. I'm a very new rider and I've got a lot to learn. I just wish I wouldn't have encountered such a problem this early on. I literally saved every bit of money I could from 1998 when the bike first came out up until last year when i was able to find exactly the one I wanted when i first saw the add. I love that bike!

Thanks again

Fred

Cowtown,
pop the dipstick off of the oil tank and fire up the bike and look into the tank with a flashlight for oil flow. If the flow increases with the rpm's all is well as far as the oil pumping the oil through the system. My oil sending unit also went bad on my S2. Replaced it and the problem went away. It does help to throw a gauge on there and make sure

Cowtown:

If you install a oil pressure guage, be forewarned.

The pressure will start out in the 30 - 35 PSI range and then slow drop to the 15 - 20 PSI range as the oil get hot.

The hotter the oil, the lower the pressure.

Keep an eye on the pressure to make certain that it does not drop below the 10 PSI range.

That is a reason for worry.

Hey Cowtown
Check out the connection of the wire plug on the oil pressure sending unit. On my 2000 X1 I've had to crimp it down a little to get it to fit tightly on the post it attaches to, so it makes a good connection.

Look closely at the enlarged pic of the red one, looks like he's sliding the rear tire through the corner some.

And ya just know it's going to sell for about $10,500. WOW. I'm not sure I really want that kind of a motorcycle but it sure is a lot of bang for the buck. I wonder if there will be a brand new FZ-1 next year? Kind of a big version of the FZ6 that we saw a week or two ago.

180 crank hp at 12,500 seems more suited for the track than the street.

I like the underseat exhaust.

That's with the ram air ramming.

you might think I was fixated with Eric, but his shots just turned out better.
btw, I'm not sure who that is on the X1 -- anyone?
