You guys are incorrigible. Here I am with this gorgeous S2 and you're encouraging me to tear her apart. Obviously you haven't seen me work. ;)

I did put the rear wheel back on today after my rear hub fiasco. All went quite well. The belt is nice and loose. Judging by it's track in the center of the sprocket I did a decent job of aligning it as well. So I'm not a total loss.

So here I sit on a Sunday night studying my FSM.

I have an air impact wrench which hopefully can handle the isolator mount bolts.

I'll have to figure a way to support the rear sub-frame. The garage ceiling is finished - no exposed rafters.

Will I really need the pivot shaft adjuster tool?

Besides new swingarm seals, new isolator mount screws, fork O-rings and spark plugs, what other parts should I order in advance? [I have oil, grease, anti-seize, loctite, etc.). Rubber isolators, perhaps? The bike has only 10k total miles (I've put on 7k in the year I've owned her), so I don't expect things to be all worn out. But one never knows...

Is the front fork holding tool necessary?

I can't believe I'm considering this....

TIA for all your help, guys...

Merry Holidays to all...

Working on your bike is fun & it helps the long cold winter to pass quicker. Working on rebuilding my Dyna right now. This is my new fender, still waiting for the chrome fork sliders & to have the wheels laced.
}

Hopefully be done by spring, still have some wiring to do & then get her painted }

The "SB" in Jim_SB stands for Santa Barbara. We ride all year out here! But we're coming up on our rainy season, so this is the time...

Good luck with the Dyna. I highly recommend stainless steel spokes for good looks and easy maintenance...

I went with the chromed..maybe they are stainless? ones from Landmark, along with their billet hubs. Some real nice quality pieces.

...in preparation for the Screw. Kinda spooky from a civilian's point of view.

it always is, Greg, it always is :)

Ferris: I understand BEER and BURR (as in 26º) but I'm a little out of the loop on this one. Tell me about BLURR.

remember The Little Rascals?

my daughter Brynn, who was all of nine years old at the time, named my Thunderbolt the "Blur" in early '96, in honor of The Little Rascals' infamous soapbox derby racer.

i loved the name (still do), and subsequently modified it to BLURR, to mimic the name BUELL.

Ray, i'm looking forward to meeting and riding with you at SPLASH :)

ride to lean,

Dude , ....... I gotta know .... WTF is........... "FOUR-PLAY"...

first: lay off the hemp beer.

second: it's the four-day ride -- beginning in Monterey, CA, USA on Monday July 14, 2003 (following WSB weekend at Laguna Seca), ending in Portland, OR, USA on Thursday July 17, 2003 -- leading up to SPLASH on July 18-20, 2003.

FOUR-PLAY.......get it?

if you're half the crazy Canuck i know you are, you'll be there.

epic.

Jeff, it was because of the breathers in the heads. Doesnt the XB have its breathers in the top of the rocker boxes? Why would someone change that? It seems like a better setup to me.

The breathers are retained by grommets in the upper covers , look close and you will see that the rocker bokes are the late two piece style not the early three piece, the frame is a C&J built to fit an XB generation engine.

You guys really shouldn't bother me while I'm at work , I might get fired ,

Got my Avon TIre bike model today. Very fast service, just ordered on Friday.

Pretty neat model, anyone know the genisis of this thing? It is vaguelly Buell-like but the detail is not all that good. Looks a little like an early M2.

Dave, I know its based on an actual Bike that was built for avon tires as a center piece for their new wide tire...I believe it was a 250?

I think it was in Hotbike a couple yrs ago. If I get the chance later today, I will go downstairs & see if I can find that issue.

Could someone please tell Buell that if I find a better deal, I'm not calling the cops. I would, however, like to break the status quo and not the bank.

Dave, it was based on an M2. It was the cover bike from Hot Rod Bikes a couple years ago.

Hi Jim_SB,
Regarding doing your own service, only you know your abilities/limitations. Take into consideration things you have done in the past and also what your threshold is for difficulty when learning something new.

I know you are sharp so that's not a question. You have the FSM and also the experience of this board if you decide to do it, and you could always drop back and punt (i.e. take it in) if you get in too deep.

There is a good deal of pride and confidence that go along with doing your own service. But let me add that it's also wise to know when something is beyond your level of experience. Only you know for sure.

The only place you will find the S3 is on ebay, dealers sold out a long time ago. It was a boxed ste of 4 bikes & only one was a Buell. I believe its the only Buell hotwheels has made to date. Expect to pay about $8 or 9 a piece.
