Some history on the bike: The H-D museum wanted this bike for inclusion in the Buell section of the museum, but they wanted it "donated" so I still own it.

This bike was bought several years ago off e-bay and was damaged (paint damaged only)in shipping. UPS paid for Waterford Bike in Waterford WI to restore it to factory original new condition.

The guy that painted the frame and swingarm was the very same guy that had painted it when it was manufactured and had all the original decals and marking stashed away in his toolbox.

I'll take reasonable offers over $750.00 for the next 10 days. I will keep all bids private and will not reveal the winning number or identity, unless the winner states that it is OK to do so.

High bidder wins the bike.

I will have a local bike shop prep and ship the bike insured at the buyers expense. If the winner happens to reside in Texas, we can work out other delivery options.

Reply to s2rider@gmail.com for bids.

You sure about that or is what you were told. One of my best friends was the painter there and he painted every single Buell bike made. His name was is Dave Neu.... check it out for yourself.

Here's some Buell history this picture was taken in back of Paramount bicycle's or Waterford bicycle's which ever you choose.Pictured from left to right are Cameron Towers(frame welder),some peaon that did what ever around the shop, very close friend Dave Neu(frame painter),and Kelly Gamble(engineer that came from TREK to work for Paramount on the Buell bicycle.Anyway this was the proto type in which they snapped the frame in half at the headtube jumping the bike.24hrs later this bike was due in Chicago at Schwinn headquarters for testing. They had to build another frame and paint it in less then 24hrs.This one was taken out on a stretcher pronounced dead 10 min. later in the shop of severe head trauma

Cool bike!

I've got the first one (or two) hanging here over the desk and it appears to be a dead ringer except the ones that got sold did not have the Buell American Cycles on them . . . I don't think. I'll have to look.

These were amazing bikes. This looks like a great buy.

They were very cool and so far ahead of their time. I am still looking for my copies of the original catalogs. I went to Shawnee Mission, KS one day and picked up a couple from a bike shop.

Somewhere, lost in all my files are the original stuff and a huge envelope of stuff Buell sent when they were cleaning out Jefferson Street to move to East Troy.

One of my recent "works of art" was to take the hand drawn sketch, the patent drawing derived from it and an actual photo of the suspension and frame the 3 together. I want to label it "from the mind, to paper, to pavement".

Fun memories.

The way that shock is mounted.. looks like it would function the same way as the knucklebox setup on diamondback bikes? Making the spring rate progressive without having a progressive spring?

Randell,

Not knocking what you've stated, as I don't like to bash people I've worked with, but I just love statements such as "all the original decals...".

For the life of me, I don't remember how I ended up with these in 'my own personal Buell museum', but...

Original Buell Bike decals

I do desire to add one of the Buell bicycles to 'my own personal Buell museum' someday.

And, boy do I wish I had some of those Pegasus stickers!

PKF, I'm with you on this. Collector's item or not, I'd love to ride that thing everywhere. I'd get my excercise in and feel more sophisticated doing so. These are like the Tubers: they were built to ride, not to look at (though you could still find yourself just looking at one for hours when not riding it).

Meaning all the decals he needed to put the bike back to stock configuration, not that he had ALL the decals...

In terms of "originality" the bike actually has way too many stickers on it.

The ORIGINAL bikes had a Paramount logo on the front not a Buell and there were no Pegasus decals on the Buell bicycles.

That doesn't diminish this being a nice example, just clearing up any confusion.

But then . . . I am a construction worker and just guessing.

Harry, One of the control riders for Blackhawk Farms has one of these for his "pit bike". SWEET bike.

And court is right, the original doesn't have the Pegasus

COOL DEAL !

There were two models and like nearly all bikes sold it was kind of a kit style "choose your components" deal.

The one in the catalog is pretty representative of what was produced.

It's hanging here over my desk if there are any questions.

The bike is hanging over my desk.

The catalogs . . . well that's an ENTIRELY different story.

Back in about 1992 a LARGE envelope arrived at my office in Topeka. Buell had been cleaning out stuff as talks proceeded with Harley-Davidson, getting ready to move and the envelope was tons of notes, scribbling, vendors quotes and so forth related to the bike.

I went to Shawnee Mission, KS one day . . the nearest Paramount dealer, and got TWO of the big glossy catalogs.

Years went by and I can not . . . to save my life . . find the big envelope or my catalogs.

So I started, in 2006, getting on all the Mountain Bike internet sites offering $250 for a 1990 Paramount catalog in anticipation of writing a book.

Finally . . no kidding, out of the blue sky after over two years . . . I got the nicest e-mail from a guy. He didn't want to part with his catalog but was happy to send high res scans and is a really nice guy.

I wanted the information in order to capture what the REAL bikes actually looked like and the story.

Unfortunately . . . the bike CHAPTER, like the full GUITAR and SPECIAL BUELLS chapters got cut from the book due to space requirements.

The bike chapter was one that I REALLY enjoyed doing. There are a lot of the folks (including Richard Schwinn) who were invovled and were passionate and still have vivid memories and original drawings.

Neat stuff.

Yep . . the bike . . and WAY TOO MUCH other Buell stuff . . . is hanging all over.

Here . . . want to see something VERY RARE . . . take a guess at this.

Gosh . . and you're kind of a Buell fanatic . . so, for BONUS POINTS, tell me how it's related to mountain bikes.

: )

My guess is that it is the Choke lever for a RS 1200.
The part is a derailleur shifter for a bicycle. I saw an aluminum Suntour lever on one at at a BRAG ride back in 2005.

Looks like it would be used as a choke lever, also a shifter used in older 10 speed bikes. Just a guess though.

Seems like that item is mentioned in "the book". I'm at work and the book is home so I can't double-check.

Space requirements? I've got plenty of room on my shelf for extra chapters!

Sure . . . Erik has two guitars patented and you can buy a Buell MS-1 through the Peavey Custom Shop.

I did an entire chapter with like 18 photos of the development, testing, how some motorcycle design principles (weight, balance and so forth) went into the guitar and there were some killer photos. Neat stuff but it ended up on the cutting room floor.

Here are Erik and Mike Stone at the NAMM show for the introduction of the Buell MS-1:

And Erik, about 6 weeks ago, in Köln Germany.
