My Blast rolled to 20,000 miles yesterday. It is the only motorcycle I have ever driven, until yesterday. I bought a 1200 Sportster, used, and put 50 miles on it.

Well I came away with a far better estimation of what a good bike I've had these past years. I have very little positive to say about this 2009 bike in comparison.

:-/
Did you keep the Blast?
They’re just different bikes for different purposes.
But I can’t say I disagree with your feelings. The Blast is always pure joy for me to ride, but it can’t do the different things my other bikes can.

Congrats on your new bike. I love Sportsters too.

Well let me clarify, after riding the HD, after 9 years of the Blast being the only motorcycle I've ever been on, I came away with such a positive impression of the Blast, an impression that only perspective could have brought- now I can't see ever getting rid of the Blast.

I came away with thinking the brakes and ergonomics are superior on a Blast, as well as the handling, placement of the exhaust, and much to my great surprise- the HD's engine was hardly any smoother.

I went over rough bit of street, and the HD bounced, and bottomed out, and seemed much less controlled than what the Blast would do. In general, in spite of its larger wheels, I did not care at all for the HD's behavior over rough pavement.

That said, the 1200's power, to me, only ever on a Blast, was nearly overwhelming the first few miles, but of course that would be easy for anyone to like before too long.

If you look here:

You'll see I have Sergeant saddle, USB phone holder-charger, large windscreen, and a full set of Venture-MCA bags, also bar end weights, and foam handle grips- this bike is ready for long hauls!
