OK, a couple of things here that I want to suggest. First I would like to recommend a product that helps with the common cold, I know of a nazal gel called ZICAM, a megadose of Zinc, I hear it is also available as a oral spray but is horribly nasty to the taste buds. This may be a product that you westcoasters my not know because you guys probably don't get colds like us midwesterners do.
B. I'd like to introduce you to a historic Michigan roadway called "The Tunnel of Trees" a stretch of highway also known as M-119 between Petoskey and Cross Village. I rode this in August on my way to Copper Harbor Michigan but didn't take any digital pictures to upload and today I was working in the area chasing tour buses around and decided the time was right.

Notice the absence of the pesky center divider line.

Just a reminder...American Sportbike Night, Northern Cal, is having our sixth anniversary, Monday, December 6th. Would love to see as many Blasts and owners there as possible.....

for directions, go to Americansportbikenight.com

Al from American Sport Bike is going to be there too...so if there are some items you need to order from Al, now might be a good chance to get them to you without shipping costs.

Terry Parsley brought in a really nice looking Blast Crank, stroked, cut down in weight, and a large bore piston, in October.....Makes the blast pretty large....rex

I should have my 4-valve, 600cc, 6-speed blast running by the end of next month. It's currently being built by Nallin Racing. It will have been almost a full year since the last time I rode it... (long story) I just thought I'd share my excitement a little bit!

On the subject of engine mods, would it be possible to fit a V-twin into the Blast? Maybe a sportster 883cc or the XB 984cc? What would have to be chopped/modified? Thats keeping the carb to avoid the extra electronic stuff. I'm just curious as to what would need to be done for something like that, not that I'm gonna do it : )

a custom frame at the minimum...and then, well, you'd be building a sportster : )

LOL

(though a sporster juged XB would be a 720cc bike - now that would be a fun entry bike! even with basic suspension!)

Not to be a downer but,a twin in a Blast frame would be a poor handling XB!
The carb would be the least of problems.
The frame would need modification. The belt drive is inadequate and the cost would surpass that of a new XB.Would be cheaper to build it up to 720cc.
Cool...Yes. A sleeper..maybe. But the amount of time,$$ and fabrication to build a decent motorcycle from it, is something you'd never get even half the money back if you sold it.
Of course, I havent measured it, maybe an XB motor will 'bolt right up'!

I like the idea of a modified Blast motor in an XB platform, and the idea of a 720cc Twin XB replacing the Blast is a intresting idea also - but a twin motor in the Blast chasis - pretty sure thats a no go - lol

Alright - a mystery on the red bike - long term - when first starting the bike I let it warm up a few min. till the rpm's settle, then I go - 10 min. into the ride I'll get back fire into the carb or exhaust out of the blue - usually at a steady state around 5000 rpms, or that rpm range on a decel - the problem is - it will happen and then disapear, and by a half hour of riding the problem is gone. Only to start again with the next start up in the next first 1/2 hr riding - just single pops but hard -
I've changed intake boots, checked for exhaust leaks, messed with the air mixture screw - nothing - it still happens - what am I missing - could it be ellectrical - will be replacing plug and plug wire, but the former are fairly new at less than a year old - any ideas?

Sounds to me like it could also be a midrange carburetion issue. Have you messed with the jet needle at all? The brass jet that the needle goes into will wear over time and change the way the fuel is delivered, so even if your jetting was perfect at one time, it can still need adjustment from time to time. Can you define whether it's coming from the intake or the exhaust? It's not likely going to do both at the same RPM range. Another thing, have you drained the float bowl lately? --Nik

Sometimes the intake/sometimes the exhaust - it will do one or two hard pops and go away - on the higher rpm decell it is usually the exhaust - steady state usually the carb - also it sounds almost like it builds up to that point like a build up of pressure just before the pop itself - haven't messed with the needle - didn't have a need with the Bub - haven't touched the float bowl in over a year.
