2007 Buell Blast- was a County Motorcycle safety training bike, 1440 miles- as left out doors for the past two years. Much corrosion, cleaned all contacts that I could find and replaced all fuses upon Purchase. I had a Harley mechanic friend finish getting it running and the following is where I am. Okay, I just got the lil' blastard running after some problems. So one thing that a friend had to do to get it running was he removed the mentioned diodes from the fuse box and jumped each with copper (jumper) wires.Yea , running. I put about two hundred miles on it since and did not have a problem until this morning. No start but a click at the starter relay. I had ordered the new diodes from my local HD dealership and put these in today (Yes, the correct way). Nothing. So I changed out the Starter relay as there was no click with the new diodes in place. Nada. So I replaced the diodes with the copper wires, bingo. It runs. Remove wires I go back to the diodes, nope nothing, not even a click from the relay. So back to the wires, you got it, running. Out for a quick ride and to top off the tank. DEAD. Pushed it home and started again. Still get the click from the relay but nothing else, consulted my shop book and can't find anything as to why this is the problem. Considering replacing the wiring harness as I feel that the diode areas in the fuse box are just fried. I tried to clean the connects and same issues. Any thoughts? | ||

That is an odd occurrence and coincidence as to why it would just "click" given your description. Without much thought and just consulting my memory of common Blast problems I would bypass (jump) the kickstart relay. I would also reverse the clutch Diode. That should bypass most of the safety switches which could be causing an intermittent problem. I wouldnt replace the wiring. Less than 1500 miles and a 2007, the wiring should be in fine shape even if left out for 2 years (I know of older bikes far more abused than that that dont need the wiring replaced). Avoid the "shotgun" (replace everything) approach to repair. Your best bet is to do as you've already done: bypass systems to see whats really working. IE: You could just have had a bad starter. Bypass all the switches and if the starter functions you know the starter is good (as an example). And please, "do not take the carb apart to give it a good cleaning"! Again, it could just be a coincidence and these problems are unrelated causing you to pull your hair out! | ||
