Howdy, about to take the rear tire off for new rubber. I'm at 12,000 miles so the question is should I slide a new belt on now or wait until the tire goes bad at 18,000?

Your belt's gonna' go, your belt's gonna' go....

Be gentle, very gentle with that belt.

Get one, put it on, keep the other for a spare.

The manual says to replace the sprocket and belt at 15,000 miles....so...it's up to you.

I am watching my punctuation, when I write to you....LOL

What rubber are you going to use this time?

Jfad - That is a hand custom job. Take your bike to a good reputable body shop, tell them you want to have your bike look like that, and let us know what they charge you.

That bike was always terrific for all the cool details it had.

I'm going with the Pirelli again, since I'm keeping the front. It handles better than the Dunlop, although I'm getting a little less mileage.

Guess I'll order a new belt!

What's best mileage for a belt and do I really have to replace the sprocket???

Just the belt - they seem to go in the 15000 area.

Just to let you know, my H-D/Buell dealer had no problem finding my parts for the Blast, no problem giving me the part number for when I call back and no problem ordering them.

The parts guy had no issues tracking anything down. Of course, he said they have a guy in the garage who "runs the snot of his Blast."

Just nice to have a good dealer experience. Thought I'd share. Probably that naked dance around the oak tree at midnight -- technically it was a gavotte -- had something to do with it.

I bought my 2003 blast last year and the original owner told me he had the maintenance done by the harley dealer. So i've been using HD oil since i got it. I want to switch over to Amsoil synthetic - Do i need to flush all the oil out or is it ok to just make the switch?

Welcome to the Thumper Forum Romanemp! You should be just fine by getting the engine hot, draining oil, and refilling with the Amsoil. Any residual H-D(spit) oil will mix fine with the Amsoil.

G1vemtheboot, Sounds like you have a torn intake coupler(boot) If you remove your stock air box you need to support the carb in some manner, I think the super boot is the easiest, or by rigging up a carb support bracket.
Good luck! Let us know.

Hey Guys - Getting ready to replace brake pads. Galfer or EBC sintered HH? Thanks, the information here is so invaluable especially in light of all the recent happenings with Buell. Glad i found this. It figures i buy my first bike and the company folds!

Galfer (I use the CF) - very strong and consistent, much gentler on rotor than EBC

EZ - CF? I'm not seeing that anywhere. These are the compounds i'm finding for the blast:
G1054 -GG rated Street compound
G1370 -HH rated sintered street compound
G1375 -HH rated sintered track compound

Swampy, thank you for the help! I tried starting the bike to verify the problem was still there, when it didn't work I pushed up on my filter which also pushed up on the carb, this let the bike start but it sounded different, "waves" of exhaust coming out of the pipe were deeper, louder, but a little less frequent then the bikes normal tempo...
I didn't have the time to take the bike apart to look closely. Do you think the rip or hole is in the rubber couplings between the carb and head? Any reccomendations for fixing the hole and for supporting the carb? Thanx for the help guys!

Yes - das boot!
Replace coupling.
If running a non-oem intake, look for Dan's Super boot on Ebay.

This was parked next to my Blast at work today. Crazy looking. It's called a Madass 125. Single, 4 speed automatic trans, super light weight, fuel in frame. They claim 55 mph and 100 mpg. But is it a scooter or a motorcycle?

Both?!?! Guess it's a scooter based on the reviews on the interwebs. It's around $2,700 so you'd be better off buying a used Blast IMHO.

I know what you mean - if only they would make at least a 250cc version - it would sell like mad everywhere - don't know why they don't.

I know that learning such as that is a lot of fun as well! I'm off myself to get material for a custom exhaust mounting.
