What's the latest news from Erik?? How's he doing? Also..Regarding Vtwin's questions about why people do what they do to Blasts. Blasts are easy to work on and you get decent gains on your bike for honestly, little effort. The same holds true for the Suzuki Bandit (my main bike). Ton's of mod's, easy to work on, fun to ride. When you have all that, why give it up for something different? Also, I went DOWN to a smaller bike so my wife would have a more sporty bike to ride and for me to play with. My main riding bud has ridden MANY miles with me and claims time and time again that I ride the Blast better than the Bandit. It's true. The Blast absolutely BEGS to be thrown into turns, whereas the Bandit is heavier, LOTS more power, and can get you into trouble REAL fast with an extra twist. Learn how to ride a small bike fast, THAT is learning to ride.  | ||

Talked to him today - he's doing ok - his bike is doing better - his better half quipped. He's been moved to Kaiser - at least he's out of ICU, you know if you impact hard enough to bust your helmet - you hitting pretty hard then - I told him at least it did its job! I also spoke with Erik - sometime around 3:30 or so. He's more bummed about not making our ride tomorrow than anything else! I've actually not spoken with him before, but he certainly had a sense of humor and a great disposition. Hurry up & get online, Erik! -Saro | ||

I HATE MINIVANS! Last night, while on Barksdale AFB, a jerk in a gold Town and Country "failed to yield causing an accident", namely me high siding and bouncing my butt off his bumper. I was doin about 25 mph, wearing all my safety gear, goin back to work after lunch. This guy is at a yeild sign, and just pulled out in front of me, not having looked for cross traffic. I jumped on the brakes and was --> <-- this close to stopping safey. I love Buell Brakes. I skidded my back wheel, somehow highsided (at low speed by then), and flew a few feet to stop by bouncing my butt off his bumper. I jumped up and immediately started telling him what I thought about him, his ancestors, and the probable lack of branches on his family tree. Got the base police there, did all the reports, and got my bike to a side street. Goin back today to pick it up. The guy got a ticket at least...I'm thinking about finding his minivan and painting a Buell "kill marker" on the fender. I'm ok, big bruise on my tush, and a barked shin. My Blast (with the brand new Grape Plastic i put on last month) crushed/scraped/bent everything on the left side of the bike. Taking it to my dealer today to find out total cost of repair. He's gonna end up paying a nice sum of money...every nick, scratch, and bolt... Funny thing is, i think my helmet will cost more to replace than the parts for the bike heh. Lovely way to start a weekend. | ||

Well, first of all, YOU are ok. Everything else is secondary. It's the driver, not the van. Someone that drives as poorly as that will take you out no matter what vehicle they are in. Ride safe guys! | ||

I went through that about 15 months ago. Guy crossed 5 lanes of traffic without looking. I almost got it stopped. Some advice I was given by a lawyer friend of mine to late. "DO NOT give a statement to his insurance company. Tell them to read the police report. If you want compensation for pain, suffering, incovienence, etc. get a lawyer from day 1. DO NOT sign anything till you agree with what they are offering. Don not agree to any adjustment for BETTERMENT. (Example: Your helmet cost $300. You have had it for 2 years. They say it had a useful life of 4 years. So they only owe you $150 for it even though you have to spend $300 to replace it.)" If it ever happens to me again no matter how minor I will retain a lawyer first and have him handle all contact with the insurance companies. | ||

First-thanks for the calls and emails and well wishes. ME: 3 broken bones in right foot, broken thumb bones in right hand,(both fully cast),3" stitched gash in forehead,blood on the brain,whiplashed, bruised and it still feels like someone is standing on my chest!I get frequent dizzy spells which add to the problem of getting around. BLAST: upon visual inspection needs-handlerbars,mirrors,headlight mount (though actual headlight did not break),flyscreen,leftside footpegs mount & pegs,shifter toepeg,1 turn signal.Buell saddlebags & tank bag were also damaged.The bike faired much better than I did! I still have no memory of what happened,but it was a traffic collision. I wont be posting much for awhile,more as I get better. I also get more grateful than pissed off in a collision or near miss when I'm not hurt.I learned long ago that people dont see you and are also complete idiots when driving.I expect the worst from them. Hey Rockbiter1! Seems riding a motorcycle on base at 25MPH is more dangerous than riding in heavy traffic at 65MPH! I have had more close calls on Dover AFB than in commuting from Dover to Wilmington. Strange, since probably 5% of my riding time was on Dover AFB. Those shiny vests they make you wear seem to attract vehicles! | ||

I've got good news . I just bought a set of XB cams, XB bodywork, and other various parts. Everything fit perfectly. The only catch is that I had to trade the Blast in on the new bike. I'll still hang out here with you guys, though. I'm going to contact the folks at Crossroads about making a carb/ ac brace for the Pro-Series ac. If anyone else has ideas, let me know. Ez, sorry the Fireblast idea didn't pan out. I was offered a great deal by our GM, and I couldn't pass it up. I'm still a thumper at heart, and I'll still ride on the Dark Side. I've already got a few ideas for the Firebolt....(cue maniacal laughter) | ||

Think you could adapt the swing arm? - mounting could be done - ala NHRS for the rest - something like that would be a sweet ride! - You think the powers that be would realize that by now - lol - use the S series - ditch the cheese grater and add the R fairing and bars/top triple clamp and go racing - after stripping everything else off and safety wiring and pan. - lol - I'm with you on that! In case you were wondering.....Finally got the police report: It was the classic 'left turn in front of motorcycle'. "I didn't see him coming". After 24 years of riding, it finally got me,(and how)! I feel much better about getting a lawyer now. Rearsets look to be custom. Has an oil cooler. Head pipe is the White Brothers and the muffler is for an ATV (Big Guns muffler is what it looks like) Custom intake! Nice! | ||

Long list of extras includes braided steel lines, widened swingarm and widened rear wheel with large 150/80 16 rear tire, clip-on handlebars, LED rear turn signals, White Brothers R4 exhaust, high compression piston,cam, headwork, Mikuni carburetor, custom intake with K&N air filter,Crane ignition,custom built rearsets, racestand (no kickstand on bike), Lockhart oil cooler, Pingel petcock, rear license plate re-location kit, Dunlop sport tires and much more. Kevin of the drummer fame, has an intake sort of like that on his S1. He built the intake to work with his exhaust. | ||

I would guess that the extra length on the intake runner would help prevent air flow reversion in the intake port at the lower RPMs due to the valve timing overlap. | ||
