I just got back from the Desert, my bike sat the whole time (9+ mos.) and now won't start. I've checked the basic things, but don't know where/how to get to the other suggested issues. Common sense and the forums says I need to check the spark plug and fuel filter, but I don't know where they are or how to get to them. To be honest, I can't even figure out how to get the damn tank cover off. :P I've done some looking and even found a service manual for an '02 Blast, but haven't found instructions on HOW to do the checks. If someone could enlighten me or point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for the help, Paul P.S. Welcome to the Thumper Forum Hard0228! First off, thank you for your service to our country. Sorry you are having problems. Fuel stored in hot weather seems to evaprorate and leave fuel residue that blocks up carburetor fuel jets. Your situation seems to be about right, you problably have fuel that has gone bad and the carb is plugged up. If you are trying to do the work yourself and you feel comfortable you can easily clean the carb jets out with carb cleaner after you have removed the float bowl. If you remove the float bowl it is time to replace the carb jets with a richer primary and main jet. There are small numbers stamped on them and you just take them to any motorcycle shop that has an assortment of CV carb jets and get the sizes you need. If your bike is stock I would recommend a 48 primary and a 170 main jet.....I am having a big brain fart and can't decipher numbers right now so check in the carb section for exact numbers. Install those jets and your bike will start and run much better than stock. Good luck, and keep us informed. | ||

Thanks, Swampy. I replaced the spark plug and got the engine to turn over with some ethanol in the carburetor. Next step is to pull the carburetor and, like you said, replace the injectors. I'll let you know how that goes. | ||

For stock I would go 45 primary and 170 main, I'm sure Swampy mis-typed the first recommendation. Otherwise he is Very much correct. |
