I cant seem to get a break lol... So I go out for a ride on Sat and see this oily mix sitting on top of the case(Right under the starter) I thought at first it was just left over gunk from when I cleaned up all the grime...so cleaned it up and went on with the day..

Well I start to head back and took the back road for some more practice with some pretty nasty corners and next thing I feel when I lean to my right is the rear slip out...Got her back under control and home safe. Take a quick look and I have oil all over the top of the case and on the rear tire....FUN

Looks like its coming from the starter gasket,so I bite the bullet and drain and pull the primary cover and what do I find....The guy before me must have #$@! this bike up. Primary cover is torn to *&@#!@... looks like at one time the chain was free to have a party in there...I will get pics...

But I found two things that worry me a bit...On the fly wheel (well the part that says "Do not strike") I have what looks like two drill marks in that...Thats not normal is it? and two... I cant seem to find this out in the book for the chain adjustment shoe but with the lock nut all the way out it should be loose right???

It looks like he might have rigged this as with the case off the chain adjustment shoe is tight against the chain,I have to pull pretty hard to on the shoe to make the chain slack...

Well I ordered all I will need to fix this (I hope) and I opted to try and fix the primary cover.

I know it was an $800 bike but it would have been nice to know about this...and the guy said he was MMC certified or something like that..

I know a first bike is not perfect but I am wrenching on this more then I would like, but hell I will know how to do it and what to look out for : D

Well any input on the chain adjustment shoe would be great. I will get pics when I get home tonight.

The "drill marks" are from metal removed for balancing from the factory....the cover looks like the engine sprocket may have come loose at some point and chewed up the cover...the tensioner spring is supposed to hold tension on the primary chain....the setup LOOKS similar to a sportster or XB primary, but is actually different...the "adjuster" on a Blast is a limiter bolt, not a direct adjuster...the spring on the shoe puts tension on the chain....the bolt in the cover limits the motion of the shoe......to tell the condition of the shoe....remove it and check how deep the chain has grooved it...

Buying a used bike is like a box of...well you get my point...I should have looked around more but just got done with my riders test and wanted a bike, got taken a bit but hell it happens.

Ok so if thats how the shoe works it looks like it was doing it job,its pretty mangled up so I have a new one on the way...any trick to removing it??

I did a JB weld fix on the primary case center bolt hole(looks like he did the same but used RTV!!) just to keep it from leaking...cant put a bolt through it but should hold up for a bit I hope.

Parts should be here in a few days and I will see what I can do.

Makes me scared to see what the motor looks like...
Might as well keep at it....not much left I have not fixed and I am just sick enough to rip it all down and rebuild :P

Thanks for your info!

P.s anyone got a blast that has not been abused like mine but want a project?? I will trade ya! : D

Na, everything looks good like it is supposed to when the engine sprocket nut gets loose. Clean it up, make all the adjustments, glue in the stator wires and you should be good to go!

Don't go worrying about anything else breaking or it will!

Pop the clutch and rotor off as well, might as well only 2 more bolts and clips - then chamfer statorwire protection plate edges - glueing wires is a good option if you use fuel proof glue/silicone. replace detent plate and clip, maybe double clip it. Measure the drum pins and make sure they are all about the same size - one may need a slight tap in - try to leach some red locktight onto that one - lol - do the shift shaft adjustment, then in reassembly the clutch adjustment, then the primary adjustment - to the loose side, being better than tight. Add Mobil 1 and your shifting should be greatly improved. Lock her back up and you should be good to go. The trick to fighting the spring to the shoe and the case is to fit it all together half way, then flex and push it together to fit it the rest of the way in - the guide under the middle of the chain. It may take more than 1 clutch adjustment to get perfection, but you should be darn close - lol - don't forget to check out my group website for any tech pics you might need in the files section - lol - see my profile for the link;0)
