I tried leaning my mixture out and the bike started sounding like it wanted to die so yesterday I opened the mixture screw up to richen the mixture. Today I went for a ride and noticed my bike started backfiring meaning it was running way lean. As I slowed it started to die so I got it home. A simple mixture adjustment should fix the problem I thought, the mixture screw was missing! With the screw out it allowed air to get sucked into the carb and lean it way out. I stuck my finger over the hole and it ran better so I plugged the thing and am now running fully rich. I don't care really but it will kill gas mileage. Can someone explain how the mixture screw works? What does the screw do in the carburetor? Do you know if it is a common sized bolt or a special buell thing? Any help would be appreciated, thank you! | ||

the mixture screw is a special carb screw, not a buell part. any bike shop should have the idle mixture screw for a Keihin CV Carb. They have been used on Harleys for years and a lot of other bikes (including imports). The shop might even have a thumb adjuster version of the screw. I dont have part numbers because the parts manual doesnt show them because we arent supposed to have access to that screw!!! With some searching you may be able to find them. | ||

Cool thanks for the information. I had leaned out the carb for extra mileage to the point the bike didn't want to run. I then started dicking with it and now look at where I am. I figure if it is way to rich I could always just go back to the stock jets and whatever extra fuel goes in will compensate for the V+H exhaust. Thanks for the information, I feel pretty silly but the bike still runs despite my best effort. | ||

I bought the screw and spring from Jp cycles and put it back together, thanks for the information folks! | ||
