Finally had time to install the new exhaust on my 01 today. Since the bike was so neglected by the PO, in addition to the exhaust, I did an oil and filter change, transmission fluid change, new spark plug, modded the airbox, installed bigger jets (45/175) and shimmed the needle .05".

I got it all buttoned back up today and she fired right up - I was more than a little concerned that this would not happen. Anyway, let her idle about 3 minutes to get oil through the system so I could check the level. After I hit the kill switch, I noticed that the header pipe had turned a yellow-blue-purple color. I know the exhaust can turn over time, but did not expect it in 3 minutes time.

Is this normal? What does it mean - too rich (I followed the advice on BW for rejetting the carb and rerouting the breather hose)? Too lean?

Any help is appreciated.

first you shouldn't let your bike idle that long, second it takes a half hour worth of riding for your oil to heat up enough to check level properly, third thats normal for a V&H pipe.
