Hello People,
I have been viewing this great site since I purchased my Blast last year and want to say thanks for all the great info.
As my screen name states, I am a novice both with the Blast but also to all things motorcycle. The Blast is my first ride.
2005 Blast: I had all of the intake boot 'symptoms' at the end of last season so I know I need that replaced. That said.. just prior to storing her for the winter, I could not start her at all. All I get is a loud clicking noise. I think I still have battery power because the headlight is still on and the gauge is still lit. My question is two fold. Could this be the starter as well? And if so, what do you think I am looking at to have a dealer / mechanic replace the starter and intake boot. (I saw on the diagnostic page that the boot should be about ten bucks and two hours labor) Thanks in advance for any help.

I have yet to hear of a starter going bad, without some other circumstance causing it, so I would say the starter is ok. Check battery, regulator, and stator, and front/rear grounds. Replace the boot first - the tear may be so big, the bike may not start - lol

If all you're getting is a clicking sound when you try to start it, make sure first that the battery is fully charged. You can still get a lit headlight and gauges but not enough juice to turn the starter. Ideally, try to start it after having a charger on the battery for at least a day.

I'd check the terminals also in addition to charging it up.

My bike gets pimpy sometimes and does the click click click, but will break free and crank. I'm too damn cheap to spend 100$ on a battery, hell everything for this bike is expensive. I'd keep clicking until the battery goes dead or you hear the starter catch. If not charge it up and try again.

Yeah, I would be checking the battery connections and all the grounds.

Then I would check the voltage, static voltage should be 12.75 or more when charged up, then while cranking, if the voltage drops to less than 9.6 I would start following the cables and connections and check them for corrosion, tightness and the like.
