I want to make a direct connection to my battery for the cable that comes with a battery tender - the cable would remain connected all the time. Is there any preferred order for making the connection to the battery so that you do not short anything out??? connect to positive first or is it the negative first or does it not matter? thanks

It doesn't matter because the cable doesn't create a circuit. No juice will flow.

Disconnect the negative first, leave it disconnected. Hook up the positive cable, then the negative. Though it doesnt matter which way you do it, but with the negative side still connected you run the risk of grounding out the wrench when loosening/tightening the positive side.

That connector will also be good for an electric vest : )
