Having a little issue with the Blast. The spark plug boot/wire keeps jumping off of the spark plug...obviously causing the bike to die. I have put it back on 3 times now. I'm pretty sure that it's on correctly...I can feel and hear the "click" when it sets down on the plug. Do I just need to get a new wire? Is there a better part than factory out there? Thanks. | ||

Just go to any bike shop and get an NGK Spark Plug Boot. Install it, then ride. You will continually have problems until it is replaced with an aftermarket. | ||

How about just closing the metal spark plug wire contact with some needle nose pliers? A little pinch will do! | ||

Had my Blast for several months now, and just experienced this very same issue last night (what a pita!). I've never heard of spark plug wires jumping off of spark plugs, so needless to say it took me by surprise. How complicated is it to change out the wire if I can find an aftermarket replacement? Does anything need to come off in order to change it, or can it be done without taking the bike apart? Any help is appreciated. I'm not a mechanic, but I can do basic stuff. Thanks! | ||

All you need to do is find an NGK spark plug cap, remove the old one from the wire end and install the new one. I don't remember how the original one is, if it has a barb running into the wire from the side or if it threads into the wire center. I think the NGK threads into the center. Place all the sealing boots onto the wire first then screw the cap on, then position the boots where they are supposed to be. Takes all of five minutes on a cold bike and ten on a hot one. | ||

Also I'm assuming that the wire is coming off and not just the threaded end of the spark plug? According to everything I've read about the HD/ Blast ignition and coil, getting the wrong 'aftermarket' wire can damage ignition parts. I've also seen some very bad 'custom' wires made by people that dont know what they are doing. The Blast plug wire works just fine. |
