Shotgun: That bike has a 515, not a 44 mag, right? Seem to remeber that mentioned a while back... Also, what was Susan's record? (Be cool to have her sign the bike with the record info, eh? Might net a few more bucks to your sale heh heh)

All righty then! - Took the braces off but left the springs (so if the boot does tear off at least the carb won't go bouncing down the road - lol). I figure if I'm going to run the Pro intake on Red Maul, I might as well test how it will work on my ultra light stack intake system on Black Vader - wish me luck (yes I'm carrying the extra boot;0))! Don't ya just luv experimentation!

EZ-

Speaking of Pro Intakes and Things Falling Off, our carb has yet to fall off since I took off my Kludgey bracket.

HOWEVER I was following Loli onto the freeway one night when I noticed some, uh, THINGS tumbling along on the road. I then noticed Loli pulling over to the shoulder. "The air filter fell off!"

So here I am walking down the 118 in the middle of the night looking for the intake parts - hoping someone didn't run 'em over. Got lucky. The hose clamp and filter cover emerged unscathed. The filter has a slight dent. After the long walk we shared a good laugh then rode home.

Why did it fall off? I probably overtightened the hose clamp or something. Point is that all this paranoia about carb boots breaking with the pro intake and that didn't even wind up being a problem - for us. Bike must have more than 2000 miles on it since the intake was installed.

Careful not to speak too soon - the archives have some tales of people trying to run the carb alone and with different intakes and the woes of the results - I figure at least with the springs I won't loose my carb like others;0). The HD/Buell Pro unit seems pretty light weight - well see!

Hahaha, I should never speak too soon with my lil' Gizmo. No i have had the Pro Series intake on for about 5000Km and nothing is falling off just yet. I am of course checking to see if the carb is loose or boots are cracking and starting to fall off. Don't worry you'll hear me crying from canada if anything falls off the bike.

Rangerracer,

There is no bolt on kit for this. You will have to modify the Blast swingarm to allow you to adjust the swingarm length to allow for gearing changes. Most people use an old tube-frame buell swingarm as a donor for the parts. I think that any transmission sprocket designed for the late model 5-speed Sportsters will work on the Blast. For the rear wheel, you will either have to make an adapter to use a sprocket, or adapt a different wheel.

Take a look at my Blast back in the archives. I had to cut/weld/adapt a section from a old steel S1 swing arm. There are other ways to do it, but I don't know if any are much easier. I also switched to a 17" standard Buell rim. The trans. sprocket is interchangeable with other 5 speed Sportsters and Buells

EZ, ther are two filaments in the one bulb, it's the same as a car bulb. It sounds like the bulb fell out of the socket, or a connector got unplugged.

Thanks James - I'm picking up a couple of bulbs after work and will install 1 immediately. I checked behind the light assembly - everything looked tight - made sure everything pluged in was firm from the outside - I'll just end up risking the ride during SF's worst traffic time to DP and take it from there!

Hi everyone... Does anyone know off the top of your head what the normal (acceptable) operating temperature range is for the blast engine, and how is the best way to check it when I am riding hundreds of miles through the desert on my way to Vegas very soon? An old Harley guy said to use a turkey thermometer...

Sandblast,

No, I don't, but I wouldn't worry about it. The Blast is not going to overheat on your way to Vegas. Mine had no problems in the 110+ dergree weather going through Baker, Victorville and Vegas. I think that the Blast test area was in Mesa AZ, during the summer.

Don't worrk about the Blast's engine temp, it will be fine.

Rangerracer,

What makes the Nallin kit worth doing? Let's see (3) landspeed records on Nallinized Blasts (two of those held by me)Mine is only 0.015 overbore and holds a record of 98.705 mph carrying a 230 pound rider and dragging a sidecar. In race trim it puts out 49+ rwhp (compared to 27 rwhp stock). In streetable trim the engine will be in the 45+ rwhp range. Let me repeat this is on a non "bigbore" kitted engine. These numbers could be sweetened with increasing the displacement.

So why is Nallinization necessary? Aaron & Brian have done extensive testing and R&D on the Blast engine (much of it on my motor). They have not only looked at the easy fixes such as swapping cams and such, but have looked seriously a what holds the engine back. Many of the things that they have found relate to the head and the flow characteristics of that peice. Much of the power they got out of mine was found here then matching cams to maximize this improvement. These guys know their business and are dedicated to produce quality products and services.

The Nallin Racing group of folks are a super bunch. They sell the kits, but will customize this work to what you might want from your bike. Mine isn't necessarily off the shelf Nallin work, but that service is available to everyone not just a select group. They stand behind there work and have the expertise to give performance but quality and reliability.

There are other very good shops that provide this type of service, but I'm most familiar with Nallin's. In my opinion these guys ROCK, and from your Bio you might be alittle closer to them than I am. I'm soon to make my 5th trip out there and have seriously enjoyed their hospitality and assistance on each and every trip.

If you want to get serious power from your Blast call Justin at Nallin Racing and they can fix you right up.

FYI

Just thought I would mention that Crossroads Performance has their tricked out Buell Blast on Ebay, Item number: 2436771311. Check it out...

PS. I just got done with my 1k mile servicing without the slightest thing going wrong (other than that time I went to tighten my mirror while riding and not realizing it was reverse threaded; took it off. Its kind funny to be riding down the road holding onto your mirror LOL).

I can't believe how much Crossroads wants for that bike.

That bike is likely SLOWER AND WORSE HANDLING than a mostly stock blast with a couple of buck spent on intake & exhaust. Unique? Yes. It would, however, end there.

I think they'd have better luck selling components plus a mostly stock Blast. IE - sell the swingarm & chain conversion.

Just an opinion.

Heck - the coolest thing on the bike was the seat conversion - the rest of the bike was just a rolling billboard for their products - which are nice;0) - still a bit overpriced though. I've always thought the bike looked really nice, just that the Chain/wheel/tire switchout never really added to the bikes abilities (except maybe in drags)and was just a waste of time and money - now if they had used serious suspension pieces - raising the back to speed the handling back up (which was seriously slowed by the tire/wheel/swing arm mod.) - then they may have had something! As it is - it is not worth the money because of the further mods needed to bring it up to par &/or better the stock Blast in handling ability.

Hmmm.... Yup, 2 inches longer on the swingarm, 17 inch wheels, really wide tires=so much for the twisties. Plus it looks like the intake sticks out just about where your knee would go. It looks cool, and certainly unique, but I don't think they'll get it sold at that price. Maybe if it had a Nallin 600 kit on it... Maybe. Probably still wouldn't sell at that price, though.

Damn,

I took a look at the Crossroads Blast I wouldn't even price mine close to that and it has a history of two landspeed records. I'd like to have some of the stuff that they are smokin' though. I have much more than $7,900 in mine, but that's racing and what you have in something is rarely what its value is.

Rangerracer,

What all have you done to your Blast as far as handlebar and rearsets?. I had no problem doing wheelies all day with the stock handlebars or my superbike bars. Now that I have the Crossroad bars on my bike I just leave black marks on the road from the tire spinning. This was all done with the stock motor. I'm not revving up the motor and dumping the clutch, that just poor riding skills. Sound like you need to learn a little throttle and clutch control.

Ray,

I wounder myself what the hell they are smoking up there. I just got their handlebars pricey but nice

Rangerracer,

The best thing to do is put the stock handlebar back on the bike and go out there and try again. With the dragbar you putting to much weight on the front of the bike and this is keeping the front of the bike down. The Blast will never bring the front end up like the GSXR. I laugh at the squids around here that think they are cool just because they can ride a wheelie but can't keep up with a Blast in the twisties.

Rangerracer,

A few points to consider; (1) When comparing the Blast to a Gixxer you are comparing apples and oranges. The Blast is a 500cc single with pushrod acuated valves. The Gixxer has at least double the displacement and overhead cams. Although the Blast carves corners well so does the Gixxer, with a "Good" rider on either one they would be competative, but if you factor in a straight or two the Blast will get smoked. Why, this is simple more displacement, more horsepower and quicker revs. So trying to make your Blast into the Gixxer even just as a comparison is not fair to you or either of the bikes.

(2) Nallin is the only company that I am aware of that makes the kits. That doesn't say that there are not others that are out there but that they are the only ones that I know of. It seems that you have something against them through your posts. Would you please tell us what this may be as many of our experiences have been quite favorable, but opposing opinions can many times be helpful.

(3) Remember what the Blast is and what its is intended for. The Blast is a pleasure to ride and begs to be modified. The big bore kits will add lots of power, but read my earlier post it isn't the displacement that holds the motor back. It is possible to get very impressive numbers from a stock bore and stroke for proof re-read my earlier post.

Looking at the map your fairly close to Nallin's shop give 'em a call and talk to Justin. Or just drive out there and see what they have to offer.
