Well at those speeds ya I can buy it I was thinking legal back road speeds around 40-50 ... nevermind. I'm still recovering from a LOOONG cold winter. Hopefully I'll be back up to speed and all comfy behind the bars by June.

It helps me to think of 5th as just an overdrive, which it really is. Its for cruising only. Acceleration needs to be done in 3rd or 4th. Hey it's fun to feel a real kick in the pants when you down-shift and crack the throttle.

Ara, Things got all screwy after the dealer changed the jetting when they installed the Nallin BBK. They upped the slow jet to a 45 and installed a 190 main.

The Dealer's Tech said that it was lean and that's why they added the 45/190. The only problem is I don't think they realised I had the DynoJet kit on the carb including the DJ Emulsion tube, needle, drilled vacuum port, airscrew out to 2+1/2 turns etc.

When I finally got to take it out it was blowing black when you cracked the trottle at idle. I don't think they actually put a sniffer on it to find out as everyone I've talked to says it should actually require going down in jetting due to the higher compression. Something like 45/165.

What I now have is the factory 45 slow jet, the DynoJet 175 main and the airscrew turned out about 2 turns. When i checked the plug it had a medium gray/brown powdery appearance with no apparent blistering or "sandpapery" deposits just a powdery appearance(what I beleive is normal) and things "seem" OK.

I'm just having trouble determining the difference in sounds between normal high speed valvetrain noise, high speed luggging and detonation. I'd imagine that with the new high lift springs that there's gonna be more pronounced valvetrain noise but with all the hell that breaks loose at around 6500-7000 it's hard to differeniate what sound is coming from where.

The high pitched song is your head - you should hear no clatter - just the consistent song of valves and springs working together, the usual deep rumble of the exhaust is the other song - nicely complementing each other as a duet - any other noises should be suspect. EZ, naw not clatter, not quite a high pitched song either...that may be taking poetic license too far LOL ... what I have pegged as the valvetrain is more of a very quiet ticking ... kinda like what you'd hear if you took the Valve Cover off of a small block chevy ;)

My heads sound is really a high pitched whine - but song sounds better - ticking - a lifter not fully pumping up - if the sound is consistant through rpm range, if it gets louder perhaps a non seating valve. If the sound is new with the rebuild I'd be a tad concerned but if that noise type is consistant with the engine before the rebuild - assuming everything was ok before - then I wouldn't worry. Yes - Chevy's have hydrolic lifters - that tic was usually from one not pumping up all the way - I asked a friend about that once - he said you'd hear it if it gets worse but the lifters had been known to go 50,000 miles making that noise with no trouble - however thats eight cyl. to our one and I'd check it out to play it safe. LOL, I think we're in a tomato tomatoe discussion now. No, it's not a collapsed lifter noise, it's clearly a faint mechanical tick (I was thinking maybe the valves closing) it's more readily detectable than pre-build but it's definitely not a .."what the hell is that!?" noise. Hell you can hear a collapsed lifter half a block away. Atleast i can, that's part of my problem with any machine ... I was taught very young to tune by ear and now I think I hear TOO much. My first stethescope (sp?) was a 24" craftsman fine blade screwdriver ;) I used to love being able to put that to my ear, close my eyes and "see" what was going on inside the engine. Just don't hit the fan ... that hurts

At idle I can faintly hear the the valvetrain working away - keep an ear out - its our best diognostic tool - lol - if it changes -then worry - it took me a bit of time to get used to the motors new sounds also. Yuppers! The joy of dialing in the new motor - who'd of thought we'd be walking down this road so soon - at least the scenery is nice;0) (a little off topic note - you did a great job discussing the Blast at the Beginner's Bike forum - heres one to ya;0) hoisting Got Thump?! Re: Wileyco for the Blast:Talked with Tat at American Sport Bike he says they would be willing to import them - after June 15 (the projected date when the mfgr. will have the first lot done and ready to ship - lol) - price would be between 300 to 350 dollars US. Hmmm thinking hard on this - will this be BlastMauls next exhaust? Still trying to find out about some specifics about header id - but that torque percentage - if true would put it even above the Force pipe for torque and at least equal to the Bub and knowing Europe's laws it would probably be pretty quite - at least compared to my Bub - lol - Got Thump?! Just re-packed the V&H on the Blast. It was an annoying experience.

The Blast had a new tire installed a few weeks ago. The guy at the tire shop had to jack the bike up from under the motor 'cause SOMEHOW a motorcycle tire place doesn't have a swingarm jack / lift / stand thingie. Anyway, they kinda screwed up the muffler in their install & remove & I wasn't there to intervene. I wound up having to drill & tap 2 new holes 'cause of their handywork.

The muffler was re-packed with rockwool. I can't remember which badwebber mentioned doing this but I decided to give it a shot. Loli actually did the re-packing while I was out chasing down some 10-32 machine screws. BTW, that's the thread size used in the S22-R for holding the end-cap on as well as for holding the perforated tube to the end cap. Replacing the allens with flatheads makes safety wiring the screws kinda simple.

There was NO packing left in the muffler. Loli was at the tire place when they were working on it and basically none came out then too. The bike has a mellower tone to it after the re-pack. I wouldn't say it's much quieter but the harsher tones are missing.

ID of Wileyco exhaust header 45mm = 1.77inches - so I ordered mine from American Sport Bike to go on one of the two bikes - will decide when I see the product - fun! fun! fun! - Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side!

Yes - however, I had Tat of American Sport Bike ask the questions I wanted answered - they where what is the interior diameter of the header, how much - if the first question met my criteria, and when can it be delivered? 1.77 inches is perfect, estimated price is between 300 & 350, and delivery will be two to four weeks past June 15 - the release date Wileyco has posted!and the weeks after cover euro to us shipping and customs time - lol - I'll probably put it on BlastVader - I may paint it - we'll see - that means the red Blast will get the Bub and be jetted accordingly;0) - I feel like the Heinz ketchup commercial - anticipation!(say it Franky! - RHPS - lol) = yupers! Installed the Buell Race Exhaust on a new Blast today (main jet increased from 170 to 175) and took it for a 10 mile ride to ensure that all was well.
The bike is brand new so used light throttle only but you can feel how much freer running the engine is without the stock boat anchor.
Very nice exhaust note reminscent of my old BSA B50 and the fittment was perfect after changing the rear mounting Allens for 5/8 x 1".
Lose the air box, fit different cams and larger rims and you'd have the basis for a really nice cafe' racer.

I just reinstalled my Vance and Hines SSR2 after having the head-pipe "Cermachromed" by Performance Coatings. I dropped it off there in Auburn, WA on my way to work and it was done within a week and I'm back on the road. I'm very pleased with the results. The pipe looks like it's made of highly polished aluminum. Not quite a true chrome, but you really can't get any better. This stuff is guaranteed never to blue, chip, or crack! It was all done for a total of $30 plus tax. I would highly recommend ceramic exhaust coatings to everyone. They also have other colors besides Cermachrome, check out their website! --Nik

Appx. 1500 miles on the White Bros exhaust and the front inlet has separated from the can!! I'm sure they'll warranty it, but now I hafta go buy a $15 muffler just so I have a spare!! Losing faith.... again!
