Ez - you may have it... now that I think about it, someone riding with me a few weeks back said that my belt looked really loose. I just never have time to go my closest dealer over 200 miles away in Vermont. Where can I get a good manual for the blast so I can repair myself? I still go to the dealer at the end of riding season(october/november up here) and I'll check it all out, but it very well may be chain now that I think even more... small potholes or bumps in the road REALLY cut the torque when the back wheel hits them. thanks EZ If there is ever a commercial or advertisement for Badweb I'll be one of those people praising the site on how much it has helped me in so many ways besides repair. edited by kyuss on August 04, 2003 | ||

No prob Ld, After having the Blast for over a year my wife was very happy when I got the M2.(terrible seat for long rides)Definatley go with the gel seat, I have one on my M2. I sold my Blast to a guy here in town, it had crossroad bars and custom graphics. There are quite a few of them running around in Gainesville. Ken | ||

"Where can I get a good manual for the blast so I can repair myself? " Blast manual from Buell is good and easy to follow. Adjusting your primary chain is simple and something you should do yourself. The first time on a Blast, you have to remove a little factory spacer, then adjust to specs. | ||

I'll be heading out to Milwaukee Aug. 27-29 for the big shindig. If anyone could give me advice on where to stay, I'd appreciate it greatly. It was kind of a spur of the moment idea, so I'm perhaps not as prepared as I could be. Good thing it's only a five hour ride. I'll be heading out on Wednesday the 27th, and returning on Friday the 29th. My main goal is to tour St. Buell's Cathedral in Troy (the assembly plant). I may also need some sympathy, as I'm sure to be sore, and my hands will be numb. | ||

Ravensmith, Come a week earlier, and celebrate the Buell 20th. We'll be giving Erik Buell a card and taking a factory tour on the 20th , and having dinner with him on the 21st. Check out Storm fronts under "20 anniversary Card for Erik" for details. I believe that the Hotel in Racine still has a few rooms left. If they don't let me know. I might have an extra bed. Raven, Milwaukee ain't all that big and seasonal events sometimes fill the hotels. The Harley 100th is overfilling the hotels. Check http://www.jsonline.com in the classifieds and find the Harley reunion section. Some hotels motels and campgrounds are filled to capacity 30 miles away from the core city. You can check with Suburban Motors in Thiensville for info on their own version of a Rider's Ranch. There's a little roadside motel up towards Port Washington off hwy-32 that may not fill up simply to few knowing it's there as most take the main roads these days. Some small towns like Jackson also have small motels that may be overlooked by the masses. Best bet would be to bring a tent and sleeping bag as a backup and be preparred to ride 60 miles or more to find a bed. Sorry for the news but it's going to be crowded around here in a few weeks. Should hopefully be fun too. | ||

Blasterd, I'll be in Lake City Friday, August 15th. One corner of the the Iron Butt Rally will be in Lake City, so I'll be there to either work or view. All those riders will be showing up around 5-6AM Saturday. Once they leave (11-12), I'll be free to ride whatever roads you wish to show! The wife may come and a bud of mine (GS1100G) may show up as well. Get the route ready! | ||

After the rally departs, 4-5 hours before heading north. Want to get home before midnight. Glad you mentioned the rain, that reminds me to get yet ANOTHER rear tire. I'll be at the Holiday Inn on Hwy 90. Will arrive around 9pm Friday night. Any decent places to eat around there? Just a general post to anyone considering a motorcycle purchase--Had an unsettling experience the other day. Was on my usual ride home from work and, 2 blocks from home, hit an oily patch on the pavement. Rear wheel lost all semblance of traction (somehow the front avoided the worst of it). Ended up running a stop sign (luckily no other traffic) and safely stopping on the shoulder. The interesting thing to me at the time was that although the rear tire was completely traction-free (hit the rear brake as soon as the bike was relatively straight, to avoid a highside) there wasn't even a chirp from the tire. Someone must have dumped all the oil in the engine there. The point of this post is to new riders, and it is TAKE THE RIDER COURSE! In it, we basically practiced rear skids (locking rear brake at 20 mph), but the most important thing I took away from the course is the ability to not panic when the bike does something I didn't tell it to (or didn't intend to tell it, as sometimes happens...) Because of that, I was able to control the bike, keep myself from freaking out, and keep both of us from becoming intimate with the pavement. The whole experience was one part skill, one part luck, and 2 parts not panicking. Take the course if you're new, it'll be the best money you invest. (Not sure if I should have posted elsewhere, just wanted to make sure any lurking newbies (like I was in the 2-3 mos. before buying my Blast) would see the post.) | ||

Bandit, Lake City is full of restaurants and mobile home dealers.  Seriously, if you take a left from Holiday Inn onto 90 and go under I-75, you will pass most of the restaurants in town.(Texas Roadhouse, Applebees, RJ Gators, etc... On hwy 41 south,(Right on Baya Ave. Right on 1st Street (hwy 41) there is a place called Phish Heads where the monthly bike rallys are held. By the way, my new tire came in yesterday. New Blaster - we got rear brakes? Damn - why don't someone tell me these things - lol - on my third set of front pads, still 80% on the rear! The Ferrado pads have lasted well on the red - according to their service record and with the steal brake lines (this is when the fork brace becomes a must) she stops quick! Got Thump?! I ride the Blast almost every day & have never seen another on the road. So for a trip over to my cousins I take the 'Hog' out for a spin instead (gotta make sure it still runs!).On the way home some guy pulls up next to me on a 3 month old Blast. Imagine how I felt saying to him 'I got one of those at home'... Yeah, sure ya do buddy, sure ya do!! Dunno but I'd be a little leary of an Ebay belt. From everything I've read and heard the slightest mishandling of the belt can make it an OOPS waiting to happen | ||

All I'm trying to say is that if you take off the belt guards and then complain about loosing belts, I have NO sympathy for you. As far as Vader getting 12,000 with out guards, you're either lucky, or there's not a lot of gravel and sand where you ride. I don't know, maybe the keep the mean streets of SF cleaner than Chino Hills, there is always road gravel in my little canyon. Then again, I don't think either of us ride on full gravel roads on a regular basis. OTOH, if people are loosing belts with the belt guards attached (no matter where they ride), they should have the dealer replace the belt under warranty. I guess it just a pet peeve of mine for someone to modify a system, and when it breaks, bitch at the original designer. I just think that it's an asinine thing to do. Again, that's not aimed at anyone in particular, just the way I feel. I'm just about finished getting ready for my trip, my Corbin seat is installed, fresh oil, lubed cables... All that's left is for a load of laundry to get done so I can pack my last tee-shirt. I'm still debating picking up a flat fix kit, in the 9 years that I've been motorcycling, I've never had a flat. I'll probably pick one up tomorrow just to ease my mind. James |
