I check the 2000 Blast parts book today while I was down at Tilley's H-D/Buell. I hate to say it, I was wrong about 2nd gear in the 2000 Blast. F#*King misprint in my owners manual.BUELL

Thanks'Spooky' for the link. It basically explains why the gear change & as I found elsewhere on Badweb that they moved the 'crunch' from 2nd to 3rd instead to 1st & 2nd gears! And yes there are a few misprints in the manuals!!! GearheadErikO

Ez,

Looks like you have down time on the Wileyco exhaust.

Eric

Hello,
We are manufacturing 500 parts per month of this model and can not keep up
with the demand. Back order is running 3 to 4 months at present but we are
taking steps to change this.
Sorry for the bad news and thank you for your interest in Wileyco.

Just talked to Wileyco on the phone - they claim a at the wheel 5.6 hp max and 18% torque increase - 45mm header - Think I'll wait the 2 to 3 months for them to get here and try it out! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side!

Hmmm Wileyco is currently making more Blast exhausts than Buell is making Blasts and they can't cover the demand? The Blast isn't even a euro market bike. Oh well, I expect Italian women named Valentina to lie to me. :)

As I heard it - they had planned 3 to 12 units per US vendor and when they took orders from the vendors - they all asked for thirty or more - so now they place themselves 2 to 4 months behind in production - lol - She sounds like she broke your heart;0) James - Got Thump?! She didn't break my heart, I'm just a sucker for Ferraris, Ducattis, Lamborghinis, and Italian women named Valentina. It all goes back to my urge to ride fast things and memories of a european vacation when I was 17...

Right now I'm totally to comitted to rusting out your old stock exhaust. I will eventually replace it with a Pro-Series after I pay for the bike.

Quick question: To those who take their Blast to a dealer for scheduled maintenance, how much do you usually pay? Also, is there normally a wait (drop it off, pick it up several days later after they "work it into the schedule"?) I realize that it may be more in CA than elsewhere in the country, just trying to get an idea whether my dealership is jacking up the $$$. Thanks in advance!

Maintenance in question is 1k service... dunno if that makes a difference, just thought I'd clarify.

Scott-

I can't help you on the amount for service but I'd STRONGLY encourage you to buy some tools and a service manual, tap into the enormous wealth of knowledge here and elsewhere, and get your fingernails dirty wrenching on your own wheels.

With the exception of the left footpeg bracket (which you must remove to service the primary / gearbox and which won't be a problem when you get your Banke rearsets) this bike is a snap to work on.

Nobody will care about your welfare and the welfare of your bike as much as you will. If you want a happy Buelling experience, I can only strongly suggest to you that you become your own mechanic.

Enjoy your Blast!

Question on suspension mods. Didn't see anything in the Thumper Knowledge Vault. Is everything in the general board Knowledge Vault applicable?

Saro- Yes, I plan on doing that, just a question of getting the necessary tools and the necessary knowledge, and I don't think I'll have the time to do it before I hit 1k (about 950 now). But, worst case scenario is me paying the dealership this time and then buying tools, service manual, and maybe a general book on maintenance, and then I'll be ready for it by 2500. The way I look at it, the tools, books, etc. will pay for themselves the first time. And then, nothing will stop me! (cue evil laugh)

ed well i'll give ya the basics of it. C&J frame, honda forks, pm wheels, alloy tank, XR racing seat, red shift cams, 45mm Mikuni carb, way modded head, custom engine sprocket, adjustable pushrods, an incredibly high compression piston and some electrical system tweaks. it was built to race in the AMA but rules changes made not as competative so it was taken out of the races. and apperently when he advertised it for sale the buell factory bought the bike from him. man i wish i could see this bike

Thanks RebelGT for the quick response - that compression must be out there and the head work must be close to the skill of Nallin! - wow!
NewBlaster
The 1000 check up consists of a complete check to make sure every things running correctly, your first primary chain adjustment - notes on how to in our KV section under procedures, and a complete fluid change - also with notes in the same section! If you don't have a inch torque wrench that can do 24"lbs - then have them do it. Also the trans. oil is not that easy either - loosening the arm is a real pain but otherwise not difficult either. ez
yeah i'm thinkin i'll go with a stage 3 head from nallin and work on getting compression closer to what he was running but for a street bike it was WAY to extreme.

Newblaster:
I took my Blast to the dealer for its 1000 mile check-up, and it ran me around $180. This topic was tossed around elsewhere a while back, and I think mine was the lowest of the bunch.

As far as a wait...I hit the 1K mark last October. I called for a service appointment (in the slow season, right?), and the earliest time they had available was the middle of DECEMBER!
