Hardtail baby - the suspension doesn't get any firmer than thatYuppers Rebel - just weld the back part of the hardtail frame to the blast frame, do the lower mount thru where the swing arm went, cross brace, cut and add material to neck to get the stretch and your practically there! I hear all this talk about a 720 Blast kit on its way. Is this going to be available anytime soon? Would something like this fit without modifications to the chassis? Is there a place where I can find more info on this? -thanks

EZ,

My thoughts and yours run in a simular manor. What I would like to do though is build the hardtail Blast that mimiced the Sprint factory shortracker of yesteryear. Street legal of course.

Spooky,

EZ's and my thoughts in using the aeramacchi hardtail is to maintain Eric's great work on the engine mounting. I don't believe anyone would enjoy the Blast engine for any rides of length if it were solid mounted.

ed talked to a couple people and most of the hardtails they know of are home builts but he will keep his eyes out for an available frame. oh also thinks he may have some specs if ya wanna build your own.

EZ, have you just thought about fabricating one yourself using the existing Blast tail? I've got a fellow Marine that is good at that and I'm gonna talk to him when he get's back (gone for two weeks, school). He's got an old Ninja and he just made a new fairing, well hell, a whole new body for the bike. Take the existing frame, fabricate a hard tail and modify the seat to fit. Think that would work?

You could do it that way but then your getting into total fabrication - instead of just cut and welding - then again its another option, however, something like that would really take a craftman who's a cut and welding pro - with everything measured twice to cut and weld only once. - The other options a bit easier though it would cost more? - maybe not - but total fabrication is always more difficult than adaption. Its kinda scary to think so many of us have actually thought about this for more than a sec. - Must be one of those cool American traits

Question - sorry to bother those this doesn't pertain to, however, any Northern California Blasters going to ASBN at 14680 Washington Ave. - San Leandro May 5th @ 7pm - This will be my first showing there at their monthly meeting and I was wondering if I would be bumping into anyone else from here there. Anyway the topic for this meeting is suposed to be Buell Blast nite - so I'll be taking pics and probably posting a few of the good ones. I sure hope theres good coffee close by - you get spoiled living in SF - heck, the best coffee shop in the city is only 3 blocks away! - so--- Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Actually, what I'm thinking about is more along the lines of Fiberglass, molding, etc.. I found out today that someone else I work with is an expert at it. I'm gonna get with them and see what we can come up with. Thinking about fixing it so that there will be more storage space there. I need to see if I can come up with another rear end for a Blast and a seat to chop and play with. I'm gonna have to draw something up.

I see the picture and I know you see the reason - but the hmm escapes me. However, I do know when you get your bike to look like that pic you'll have gone through a lot of work and be loaded for Bear Sure looks nice though and Sargent could do the seat. I really don't think a fiberglass frame would work though ( - from your earlier sugestion) - still its always good to think outside the box! - thats how the best ideas are born! Got Thump?! ed well if ya want i know a guy that can fabricate the frame and he works cheap! lol i'm saving up a lil for a head he designed for my bike. you know its good to have a friend with access to a cnc mill

oh and on the fiberglass frame, a composite frame has been done. though it wasn't fiberglass it was carbon fiber and it was in one of the most beautiful bikes ever made! the britten!

Yup - have pics of the bike - didn't know about the frame though. Hmmm wonder how stiff the frame is? Rebel - I'll take you up on that around x-mass time if I haven't found one - its a viable option and would be alot less expensive up there than here in the Bay area - lol - So what kind of head is he making for you? Yea - when I was young and working the machinest trade - I made all kinds of parts for my van and MG including an upright shock mounts, two carb bodies - damn Stromberg, two wheel hubs, etc. CNC pretty much wiped out the trade and so I went to managing retail - lol. Now machinest are in big demand - seems there are still a lot of things that need a real machinest - damn shame I left that trade - be rich by now! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

It seems to me that the frames they make for taking Buell engines in general should work for rigidizing the Blast! yes?
It is a worry that solid mounting it may make for some unpleasant vibes, especially if a big bore kit is applied.
I was giving very definate thought toward a weld-on hardtail and a gooseneck job up front, maybe even using the stock front end and wheels to keep the weight down. I'm thinking a custom hand-beaten aluminum tank might de-uglyfy the tank area.

ED- yeah he is a true motorhead does this kinda stuff for fun. he is also an engineer so he is scary when he starts thinking in numbers. the head he designed is actually a 3 vlave specificly for the blast engine he showed me all the cads he did for it and it looks interesting. he also wants to see a fuel injected blast come around someday.

I know there are people in Europe who sell hardtail frames for Buells, and it is a thought - but the vibes would be harsh - Ray was really on the right track with welding it on - my favorite mad scientist - whup on that salt Ray! - if I had to have it custom made - it would still be a weld on to preserve the vibration dampening properties of the origional frame /engine mounting and then as you already said - cut/weld/reinforce the neck with a different rake - I actually want to retain the stock light/fairing/tank to go for the look I want including USD forks, however, sure another cool way to go would be a springer front with a Frisco tank, a big ole Chrome stack - some fat in the back and front - yea sweet thinking! - The heads a great thought - I was just relooking at the 4 valve head again and if it wasn't for the fact that I would have to drop the front of the motor each time to change plug - something I like to do with the oil - I'd own it now! The FI Blast should happen soon - the bike is basically set up for it to be added on at a later date - now we are just waiting for it to materialize - hopefully all good things in time

If you hardtail the blast frame you'll change the rake(by virtue of lowering the back end).Youll have to rubberize the rear engine mount(at swingarm). But, if your running a hardtail, its your back you'll worry about, not the vibrations!Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one this obsessive!

Yea - so true but since Barhopping/trolling in SF is easy riding- the city being only 7 x 7 miles - makes for a light duty workout for the bike to handle and to have fun in the doing - I would never use a hardtale for anything over fifty miles - basically the Bay area size - a fan of the Marque de Sade I'm not! Still the thought of a hardtale must be in the familly genes - lol - note triple entendre - Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Well I'm about 200 miles away from home(long but short story) I lost the muffler to my White Brother exhaust on the way back to my freinds house. Don't know where it's at, but it's somewhere in Roanoke, VA. What I thought was the primere chain needing tighting, was an ehaust leak. I looked at what was left, not much. Looked like a crack started around the muffler.

If the header pipe is still good you could step it to 1 3/4 and then to an ultralight can perhaps the 3"Supertrapp universal with 21 discs or any of the different aftermarket cans out there - theres a large choice. How long did you have that exhaust system - if less than a year I'd be on the phone. Hey hows the sound running a straight pipe? Totally wild! Got Thump? Just Blasting on the Dark side!

Spooky,

A $20 auto torpedo glasspac type muffler will get you home. I ran one on my Kerker exhaust for quite a while.

EZ,

Here's a rough idea I would have for a hardtail Blast. I'm real good at this cut and paste stuff, but it should give the general idea. My thoughts would be to make it street legal though.

Well I'm home after a long, loud and wet ride. Thank god for earplugs.

Ez, the header pipe is already 1 3/4. I've had the system almost for a year and no I will not be giving White Brothers a call. I'm not really happy with them at this time. Header pipe has a crack where at the lower mount and the muffler broke loose at one of the welds. The only thing good about it is that you can tune it and thats it. LOUD AS HELL and I'm glad there was some earplugs in my tank bag.

Ray, I might give that a try, to get me by until I figure out what I'm going to do. I'm leaving next Sat. for the Myrtle Beach bike rally.

I just finished installing my new Buell Pro-Series race pipe. Before I left the shop, I had a small crowd of Techs and other coworkers surrounding me, saying" Have you stated it up, yet? Come on, we wanna hear it!" This pipe is quite a bit louder than stock. Everyone, including the hardcore Harley people, had a big grin at the big sound my little Blast now makes. Yeehaw!!

I knew Nallin special order theirs 1 3/4, and that regular WhiteBrothers pipes were 1 5/8 - so when did they go to 1 3/4? Have they any dynos for it like they had for the origional? Just trying to keep up! Raven totally cool! - now the cams, and later the intake - june/july says rumor - and you should be cooking with factory steam heat! Thinking of going factory with the new bike - keep me posted with performance and durability of the factory piece - pleaseRay give it another shot and I'll get rid of the oops - all part of the fun and if at first...
