Dyna,

That's the right idea they had but ugly routing and bends. Thanks for the pic.

EZ,

If one could find an old factory sprint frame and fabricate the hardtail to the Blast backbone would be a fairly simple alternative. This would eliminate the need to fabricate engine mounts.

EZ,

I should clarify myself, a factory Sprint short-tracker frame.

take the back part and gusset weld it to the back part of the Blast frame - hmm could work - would be a shit load of fun to ride - on a really good road it would handle great - be a hard ride though - great lil bar hopper type commuter Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

yeah when i first saw that they were doing it i thought it was a really stupid idea. so all they did was put apehangers on it? how can that really be considered "chopping" a bike. i was expecting a raked out front and all ah well.

I actually saw that apehanger Blast at the Long Beach show 2 shows ago (2001). It seemed like it was somehow tagging along with the Buell demo truck. Odd...

I figured some z-bars, cone bar-end mirrors, chrome stack, bring it out to the classic 35 deg. rake with 3to 5 inches over - keep the light/flyscreen and tank, change the rear seating to a classic Perrera suspended, All other plastic gone, signals would be mini's front and back. Some chrome in weird places - It would be a sweet looking ride! - like a demon from hell it hangs on my mind

Well, the Buell is back at the dealer for a once over. The carb coupler was fine, fuel was fine, primary seemed fine ... I just have a bad feeling that it puked a lifter, push rod and/or valve . Time will tell. Just a note, I had placed the stock system back on it to rule out an exhaust leak in the WB pipe ... turns out it actually ran pretty good with the stocker in place ... I almost forget what it was like to be able to hear stuff around me

Anyone know where you can find fork gaiters? I've been looking around but all the local shops have are obnoxious florescent colors for dirt bikes ... good old fashioned black would work better for me

Buell blast got ran over by a suburban
driving home from grandmas house last night
hmmm hmm hm hm hm hm hmm hmmm hmmm.....

But actually an Oversized SUV backed up, knock it over and pushed her a good foot. My eye was only able to see the bars(but thanks to the clubmans being so low they kept the tank off the ground)bent pretty bad, shifter bent, scratched rear tail, scratched front and rear turn signals and clutch lever.

I'm going to take it to someone who knows more to see if it did anything to forks or frame before I give the SU-Monster a Figure for repairs. Sucks because the snow finally melted and it was 57 degrees today.

Side note: Engine was revving at idle (before the incident)at about probably 4-5000 rpm, but now on the three block wobbly ride home (after incident) I was able shift up to THIRD gear without using the accelator once!! What the heck is that about?

thanks in advance,
aaron "litigous" hobson

Well, my front motor mount gave up. It is cracked right below the isolator. Right now, Glendale has my bike, and it will be fixed under warantee. I don't know what the cause is, but I will have better info when the tech removes the mount from the bike. I have a suspicion that the crack started when I crashed my bike about a month after I brought it home...

Suprisingly, my bike was not the only bike that Glendale has seen with a broken mount. One of the guys that works theere rides his REALLY hard (wheelies and curb-hopping) just broke his also. If you ride your bike hard, check yours out.

EZ,

That's it. I think a minimal amount of work to adapt it to the Blast backbone. If you put on a standard length custom springer front end, I think would make a cool ride.

BTW, very cool site. The pic of Hammer in Daytona brought back great memories as dad owned that very bike for a while in the 70's. Also remember watching Doval race who's also pictured on that site.

Great stuff, you brightened my day and most likely my whole week.

Aaron - sounds like the call of Nallin to me - litigate that puppy all the way to 720cc's - lol - Hey James - you still going to have that beast of your ready for the August run?No problem Ray - it is a pretty cool sight! Still looking where to buy a frame - I'm pretty persistant - I'll find it;0)
Still this is a long term project - probably won't even start till I've sourced a majority of parts and alternatives. That will probably be my third Blast - BlastMaul - thus finishing the triumverate - lol - Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

This past weekend took a ride up to Santa Barbara county(Solvang area). The roads are excellent there w/ no traffic & lots of twisties.Unfortunatly, the Blast is pure torture on the freeway after the first 100 miles.Need rearsets now & to lose the bug deflector windscreen.
And, No I didn't get a picture at Buellton!

Ed, I'll be ready for August, and as long as I don't have to sit on the back of Saro's Dyna again I'll be happy.

Hey Saro, thank Loli again for me for letting me ride the Blast.

That would be great! That would be one of many hurdles taken from my path! God - I almost forgot how much fun a stock Blast can be! As soon as I do a few minor things to her - she'll be my commuter - except wed. or thurs. - and ole BlastVader will be my weekend bomber. So much to do with the new bike just to get it the way I like it - lol - Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

ED i'll see if i can get hold of them this week and let you know. i told the one guy about your plans and the first thing he asked was "would the engine fit?" said if anyone could make it fit you would lol...i was personaly thinkin of a blast engine in a 73-74 ss350 frame. looks alot like a old norton featherbed frame.

The lower frame Bracing through where the swing- arm used to be will be the tricky part - no need to bum rush anybody though - it will be around six months - hey Christmas time/my birthday - before I'll be able to afford the frame but if ones available then thats when I'll be looking! Right now saving for the august roadtrip to EastTroy, Wi. and back, getting the basics done on the new Blast, and dialing in ole BlastVader for the trip are my current priorities - still that never stops me from planning and that kind of planning always pays off in the long run. Basically I'll be using the back half of the frame welded to the backbone of a Blast frame giving me a hardtail - running the lower mounting point thru the swing-arm section. The more I think about it the more doable it seems - lol - Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Don't you guys think it would be alot cheaper to buy a hardtail frame for a Sportster and have some engine mounts made for it. Sprint frames are not something you find everyday (rare), plus by the time you get done cutting up the frame to fit the Blast engine you just got done turning some thing worth alot more than a Blast will ever be into a pile of junk.

Rebelgtp welcome to the group.

Hardtail frame for Sportster $500 to 800
Having mounts made $100 to 250

ed well i will let you know when they find one. the frame i'm looking at will cost me less then $100 an thats with the forks and triples. hardtail should be a lil harder to find but i'm sure we could wrestle one up for less then a sporty frame or anything.

spooky thanks for the welcome i've actually been a member here since ed started i just don't post here offten, if you look in some of the REALLY old archives you might see some stuff from me lol
anyway what you are suggesting would be alot less work but i'm sure i can find a frame for ed for less then what a new frame would cost. i had thought before of doing a 720cc blast engine in a sporty XR frame i had found. that idea still makes me drool lol
