There is a Brace meathod working, however, it also includes procuring heavy duty hydrolic hose for the coupling - it works with the pro-series - no faliures, however, the inventer still caries a spare - lol - my intake works great - just apply as new - ie clean bolts and screw holes and use factory torque specs, new gasket - and brace with springs, finally change the stock boot out with the oil - they are cheap and just rubber - not because they are tearing - last 3 were not on the black, just don't trust em - lol - There are several stock airboxmods - the best conservative is ditch the bugle, take hole to filter wall - cut out section of wall facing carb - install K&N, airbox radical - keep bugle - apply torque stack to it and hoseclamp as per mine - cut out filter wall facing carb, no internal filter, turn spigot down and away - you airbox is now your spit can - clean out 1 mo or after long ride. - Tony's/Ray's intake is a better version of the pro-series homemade - same problems - lol -
All this said -the airbox mod and the stack are not quite equal, the pro- series and the K&N, are about equal - there is a difference between my stack and the pro-series -more responsive with the stack - still - I'd say your breathing much better with either air box mod as well.

Will this be a first bike?

While not the most trouble free motorcycle there is, I also wouldn't say it is plagued by problems. What you will find is that it probably is the most fun motorcycle you will own. Once you drive it you will love it. It handles better than most non-Buell bikes, and performs just fine. I have a Sportster and I would rather drive the Blasts, but my kids are riding them. Neither of them are particularly problematic, and would load one up with luggage and ride it for a thousand miles on a moments notice. It will run 95 MPH all day long like a clock.
The bike has a soul, and has been designed "outside the box" with some really unique ideas, underslung muffler, front disc mounting, frame design, and lower fuel tank location.
Thats just me though....

EZ,
You posted pics of your stack but there were not any close ups.
Can you post one of those?
Thanks

I rode a Blast for a week once when I was in Portland OR for my sister's wedding. A lotta fun...just undersprung for my manly frame : D

EZ

Due to the angle of the CV40, would it be just as easy to do a stack and a uni filter...skip the box altogether?

Coming into this with some GoPed experience, this is what I did to the kids' GoPed

I know...GoPed vs Blast : D

Carlost - Are these people trying to talk you into a different bike?

The Blast is a good bike. I love mine. I've got a Ulysses also, and I ride them both.

I run a stack and stack prefilter held by hose clamp on both bikes suported by springs to the bottom head fins to the carb - almost the same as what you are describing, however with a lighter filter element - 0.05" filtering.

One more -

Just buy line and hose clamps, empty oil, take off old line, use old line to measure new, cut and clamp on - refill with oil - pretty easy - really.

You'd think that there'd be some way to reduce the size of the rear "sprocket" by either messing with the tranny or primary.

EZ, thanks for putting up some closer pics of your carb setup. I'll try to get some of mine up tomorrow. Funny thing i've noticed, when my carb started to slip off it would run like a raped ape! maybe lengthening the intake tube distance would help out? Any theories on that?

This is kinda crazy but thinking about the TPS and slipping carb boots and all...has anyone tried to put on a smaller, simpler carb like a Mikuni VM38 or something?

You know...something like this

LOL - street AF is good between 12 to 14 with 14.5 a max- hardcore racing engines usually start around 14 to 15.5 max or higher with specially designed combutstion chambers - racing saying - leaner is meaner - lol - extra air causes a leaner condition - so even with the intake I'm carefull to make sure it is installed right to not promote further leaness by a bad installment - you notice the goof immediately - lol - a definate lean condition.

Carlost - chain conversion - a custom belt/sprocket set up - one less than a grand, one several.

A Mikuni hsr42 has been recommended, yet more finiky for jetting - this would be for a dialed in hp - max - the Kehin40 Buell Blast carb version is hard to beat - just needs dialing in, and modded by those looking for more response.

I always thought of CV40 tuning as voodoo...you do certain things that people recommend and it seems to work...nevermind how or why...Thunderslides, Yost Power Tubes, drilling this and that...ALL VOODOO : D

I developed my own CV40 voodoo over the years with CV44 slide springs, not drilling the slide, not changing the slide needle, etc...got pretty good at it but have no clue how or why it worked.

Finally, after many iterations of CV voodoo, I resolved that all that was really needed was to go to a 44 pilot and a 190 main : D

BTW the lowly Mikuni VM is much older, simpler and cheaper than the BLING HSRs.

Well for a Blast a 190 main is too rich and a 45 would be preferable over the 44 - lol

Yeah...figgered that. My voodoo was on my old M2 : D

Anyway...other than for pure cost reasons, isn't a CV40 a little overcarb'd for a Blast...you know...a carb for a 1,200cc bike on a 500cc bike?

For those of you looking for carb supports. I had spiderman make me one for my pro series intake. Once I remembered to loctite the bolts I have had no problems. Contact him and see if he can build you one. It supports the carb to the engine with a bracket. I have about 5000 miles with no problems on it. I have pics of it posted around here somewhere, but I am at work and dont have the time to look for them right now. I will try tonight when I get home.

Damn tires still look new - as you can see by the picture - lol
- as for carb - it would use the same carb as an M2 being a short stroke as the 9 XB is except the Blast carb is better - ;0)

The CV40 is fine on the Blast, pretty forgiving too...

883 Sportsters have been using CV40's for years, if you think about it, they only have a 441.5cc cylinder pulling on that carb at one time. Kawisaki's KLR650 also uses a CV40.

I have thought of using a VM, but you're going to have to figure out a tps setup, run one ignition curve, or figure out a new ignition to make it work. The CV40 is just easier...
