provo. What I'm running is exactly like EZ's setup. the velocity stack from superbike, a piece of 5/8 uni-foam filter and a chunk of hail screen between the stack and the carb so the filter wont suck in. I really think there is something more than the carb and boot stopping it from running. Before I took it apart it was starting to have a tough time starting cold. I;ll be talking to them again in the morning to see what they find yet. I hate to pay a bunch of labor for an $1,800 bike! | ||

Was the intake put on correctly - I've had to make sure that first it wasn't too tight or the gasket wouldn't seal with the plastic and not too loose or you would have wierd transient poping, hesitation, etc. from lack of seal as well. Changing intakes is not as easy as it seams, Buell probably went with the softer plastic for that very reason - to make it easier to install - I actually went through two installing the intake on the red and it took 3 installations to get it right - for comparison it took two instalation tries on the black - getting it right can only happen after you clean the screws holes and torque to spec. using a new gasket. UGH!! Called today to check progress and find out they haven't even started to work on my bike yet! it's been sitting there since tuesday. So the whole boot-bracket theory wasnt even tested, just what the tech said on first glance at the bike. If its not being worked on monday I'm taking it to another shop. Funny how good they are to you when you buy it, but not so good when you want it worked on. | ||

I think it is the hail screen messing you up through no total seal at the gasket. GT - JBOTDS! EZ | ||

Yeah, the more you say the more I question the screen. I guess this is where I'm lost though,, why should the seal on the intake side of the carb matter THAT much? and shouldn't it at least run poorly? It may get taken home tomorrow. | ||

You could have a combination of small ills adding up - a loose exhaust, plug cable, Battery cable, and intake glich - would turn the bike into a bronk - lol - that is why I only do one mod at a time - that way I usually know what caused my ill - lol GT - JBOTDS! EZ | ||

Yeah, only one mod at a time here as well. Havent touched the exhaust, batt cables are snug, are there any fuses involved that could have popped? Im to the point where if its not being worked on when i call in the morning im going to go get it. if i do ill pull out my screen idea, clean up the bolts and try it again, then take it to the other shop if needed | ||

Remember The KISS Principle. compression fuel ignition Slow down, check it carefully, read the above posts again, list it out, simple to difficult, and start checking. Its not rocket science. Eh, so they musta done the dance around the tree. made a bracket for the carb, stock jets, (im so high in altitude im guessing is part of it) adjusted the air screw and it runs like a champ, has the hail screen in it still. funny thing is it wont run with the 3/8 inch foam filter it it, so just the sock over the stack. now I love the way it sounds when I open it up, gotta get me a pipe! | ||

They might have put gaskets to each side to seal it - I was thinking about that - the foam was probably restrictive - the filter will filter out to 0.005 - just clean when it looks like dirt is starting to clog - will be self evident - pictures would be cool. I'll be trying to get some pics up tomorrow or so. I really like the looks of it without the box, and it sounds better to when it opens up. Has just a bit of studder in it from the outwear sock, but only at high rpm. Do you ever have troubles with your outwear sock coming off? the dealer sounded like they had a hard time with it. I put a zip tie on it, but my zip fell of and the sock is still there. | ||

I have mine clamped on with a 3 1/2" hose clamp - it never goes any where - lol - I put a ziplock bag over it when bike not in use. That cough is from intake needing to be reinstalled - perhaps without screen. GT - JBOTDS! EZ | ||

The Avon tires did great this weekend! I'm down to 3/4 to 1/2" strips which is perfect for the street - beheaded a few snakes, but I may always have a snake toungue sticking out at me since I'm not doing track days - lol - however, I did prove to myself that all the rubber on that tire is usable, so I'm very happy! The rear Avon showed up today, and when I got home from work the Little Kid and I put it on his bike and went for a ride. He is happy so far, I think I got him spooked about breaking a tire in for the first 100 miles......LOL | ||

Psssssssssst, The tail light on my blast is dying. Or that little rubber connector boot. The brake light only works if I put pressure on the boot no matter how hard I force it in. I've tried bending the prongs and such to get it to work but no dice. Has anyone cut this silly rubber harness thing out and wired their tail light in without it? It seems like a real turd of a way to design the brake light, something that doesn't clip in and stay snug, especially the way this thing vibrates but..... | ||

Leaving for the Bub's Motorcycle Event at Bonneville tomorrow morning and just got my 650 cc Blast on the dyno yesterday. It is making 66 RWHP and 50 lbs of torque, I need to re-gear the primary this morning as I was using a 29/56 and that was way too low. I will try a 34/56 today and see if I can pull 125-130 at 7K with a 30 -40% load. If I can I will have enough sprocket combinations to hit the rev limiter in fifth. ... Burn: I would use spade connectors and not hard wire. Drill holes in the tail light prongs. Small nut and self locking bolt on the connectors. Spade connectors on the wires from the harness Buelldyno: Hope you get to set a new record | ||

Well, I got homefrom working in Detroit today and about the same time the Big Kid shows up from work. I was looking over the new 140-70-16 Avon Vyper Stryke on the rear of the Little Kids bike and was telling him how wide the Avon looked when it was dismounted. I then look at the rear tire on the Big Kids bike and notice it is REALLY worn down, so I ask the Big Kid "How's your rear tire" , and he says "fine", so I asked him to roll it forward to check it over a little better and there is a silver dollar sized patch of cords showing! I wish I knew how many miles were on it. Chapparell must love me. | ||

Even with the little brace for my carb, today I picked up the gf for dinner and the blast wont start. I just happen to be about ready to switch to reserve, still wont start. Looked around and the carb had popped off the boot. Did some fanagaling (warm engine) got it back on (sort of) and took off for food, decided to grab the truck first. As I pulled into my driveway the carb popped out totally and we coast to a stop. Tomorrow morning im going back to the drawing board, some more re-inforcement. | ||

Springs are on it now as well. It took me a whole 5 mins to fix it this morning when i had a real screwdriver. I learned my lesson, to keep a tool kit on the bike, even when im just riding in town! | ||

Is this a problem with the Buell Pro Series air cleaner kit as well? Is this kit decent for the money? They mention a washable filter. Is it a foamie Uni or a K&N cotton gauze jobie? | ||

Carlost - Skip the pro-series, IMO. It doesn't add any noticiable power, and you could end up like Vortec with intake boot failures... | ||

Yeah but it gives the bike such a spartan look with all that open air behind the cylinder...makes it look like a proper thumper instead of an appliance  | ||

you could always build an intake like mine and Rays. Ours was the basis for the Buell Pro Series and works better to boot (only replaced 2 boots over 4 years and 15,000 miles.) Besides ours cost less than $50 | ||
