Sorry, I posted this on Yahoo and then thought I'd hit the more technical guys here instead ... don't beat me :D

OK, I think the idle mixture screw could be out a bit too far but tonight I only got 90 miles to reserve. So if I remember my last fill up I'm down to between 45 and 55 MPG. Any of the other Nallin Blasts notice a drop this significant?

Here's the setup, unknown jetting courtesy of the dealer (referenced XL1200 main/idle jets on the RO) The carb has been fitted with the Dynojet #8111 with the needle shimmed as directed. The plug is a NGK DPR9EA9 at .040" . I'm sure the jets have something to do with it and I know it's been shot around many many times but I need a new baseline. I want to return to the stock 2002 idle jet and the 175 Dynojet Main. Can someone give me their settings to get me back on track? Please?

Its Funny you should mention that - I have a simular question - stock 45/175 was the best set up with pipe and airbox mods netted me 29/29 with a nice strait torque run - went to 180 with the Direct Hits - but with the higher compression engine, same pipe - 1 3/4" Bub, ASB stack,Irridium plug(set to their speck 0.035" - NGK # equivelent the same) best run is with 45/165. My gas millage always sucks - I live in the city:) - but when I take her out I get around mid sixty's. My question is why the lesser jetting for the higher compression engine - need less juice for the extra energy supplied by the high compression? - just weird - the power is there though so no complaint on that point;0) Got Thump?! Erik, I fell the really only weak spot is the bracket that bolts to the front of the motor. It,s a good chance that the weld was to hot, weaking that area on the header pipe. One other thing use loctite on the bolts for the disk.I just found out the hard way. Lost 4 of them on the way to a wedding.
I'm not running all 13 disk, only 7 of them plus 1/16 thick washers (muffler, washer, disk, washer, disk, and it just keeps on going on and on). It's a trick I learn from a guy I work with that races. I'm no long running the tork cone. It was not letting the motor rev up fast enough. Do I fell that this lead to the crack. No not at all. Xgecko had a crack in his pipe at the weld. He was running 13 disk and the tork cone.
I hope this will help. Spooky (Eric)

Help? Blast will not start.

Hi everyone, new here, just got my blast two weeks ago and have been cruising around pennsylvania since. Did not want to start out with a technical question, but here goes. I was out riding last night, stopped at the park, and the bike would not start. with the ignition on, the speedometer lights up and everything, but it does not even try to turn over. I started fiddling with wires and it started, but that might be coinsidence. I got the bike home, it shut off pulling into the garage, and now I cannot get it started again. Yes it has gas. I bought the bike used (300 miles) so there is no warrenty, any suggestions?

Check the Clutch Switch, the Sidestand Switch, and the Starter Swith for proper operation. Then check the wiring if those all look good. That's a simple place to start.

Pablasting, were are you at in PA? SE Montgomery County here. Try what Saro suggested. That's the usual culprit. Since it died pulling into the garage, sure sounds like a loose connection. Also, check the oil level and make sure that's OK since it was used.

If any other SE PA riders want to get together let me know.

I just talked to Justin of Nallin Racing - and yes their Force pipe is different from the one you could buy direct from Force - it is stepped differently and uses a longer header, and my guess about why the motor would actually use less gas/jetting was 85% right - what also plays into it is the fact that the piston is actually designed for the Blast head specifically making the motor more efficient. Also - for those running a White Brother exhaust - using the 515cc kit or higher - you'll need 24 disc.s (21 for the 3" universal supertrapp)to get max power - Way cool! Again thanks to all the Nallin folks for making my Blast a better Blast! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Part 1 of the gas consumption solved, thanks Ed! Man, I hope adding another 12 discs doesn't make it so loud as to be unbearable. The carb situation is coming around too. It's a 45 slow jet and a 185 main. That along with the shimmed needle, drilled piston and readjusted idle mixture sure starts to explain the poor economy. They're calling for rain tonight so more tweaks will have to wait until Saturday.

I really don't think it will get much louder and I'm sure your loving the power - wait till that jetting gets dialed in - don't forget the extended bolts for the extra discs -you'll hear how crisp the engine sounds - each heartbeat distinct and strong;0) - get it dynoed though - you don't want it too lean and each of these motors is a little different - you don't want your a/f ratio to hang above 14 - too lean - my pilot actually does so at a very small interval - if I go to a dial a jet kit I'll probably up it to 48 and lower the main a bit more - lol - the Dial a Jet kit takes up the slack - still looking into it. My favorite - possible intake leak - I replace the rubber boot with each oil change - try the WD40 trick, also if its a 2001 or 2000 it might have a slight timing problem
http://www.sporttwin.com/documents.html
check out the Blast TP service adjustment bulletin, your air screw - take out solder plug if dealer hasn't already done that for you and lightly bottom it out then turn it 2 1/2 revolutions - should put you in the right area - more than four and something else may be the culprit -( they say 3 1/2 max others say 4)may not be adjusted correctly either - try not to mess with this unless you added a differing exhaust, and jet, etc. Theres a whole list you can go down and check off if you own the manual - hint hint - Ebay sells them cheap - hint hint. Try checking those three first though - if you live in Cali - the smog canister could be filled and messing with you. It could be as simple as a loose hose clamp on the intake boot or a crack there as well. Good Luck! Keep us posted!

Hey Ralph--
I grew up not too far southwest of you in Fulton County and went to school at Penn State, so I know there's plenty of fun twisties in your neck of the woods. :) It's just that as you get out this way towards civilization, the fun roads start getting things like traffic, houses, and lights on them. :(

You're doing a great job on the Buells-Blast group on Yahoo. (You don't mind the cross-publicity, do you EZ?? ) I'm learning a whole bunch from both places. This site has really come to life ever since Ed started moderating.

I think it'd be a bunch of fun to get together this summer. If I can just get the time set aside....

Does anyone have the Crossroads Performance BL-2021 Blast Fork Brace?

If so have you noticed a performance difference?

I have their BL-2063 Bars and BL-2054 rear sets. As for those two items I can say I recommend them because of the excellent quality and they make my bike more fun to ride.

Found tis surfingthe web. Has anyone everheard about these guys?
Pics are on the site

Buell Blast Head

- increased power through the whole RPM range
- increase in compression ratio
- head is fully ported, resurfaced, and has had a radius valve job
- contains new valves (1.625” & 1.840”), guides (manganese bronze), springs (titanium) and seals (Viton)

These heads are best when used with a Wiseco 1200cc domed piston.

We currently have a few of these setups out on the street. We are eagerly awaiting the break in procedure to be finished so we can get some dyno results. We will keep you posted as we get the information

Still waiting for them results - Moderator

Try Denniskirk, Cas4, and the pipe shop link listed above - one of them probably have one in stock - if not buy a Kerker or Bub - cut off the can and add a Supertrapp 3" universal with 21 discs welding it to all the old cans mounts and enjoy the best tuned system money can buy!
