Ezblast - I just did and now I am over full  . I let it idle for about 10 minutes before I checked the oil and added that 1/2 quart. I assumed that would get it hot enough to get an accurate reading. Apparently not. | ||

Idling for 10 minutes will not bring the oil up to operating temps, but it will overheat your cyl head ! What the hell are you using a straw for ? Can't you read the dipstick ! K.I.S.S. | ||

Desmo, yes apparently it will not. Actually, I do find the blast dipstick a pain to use. :-) | ||

On the oil in the air box mine has been doing that and i noticed the lower hose was real loose on three way connector so I asked my service dept and was told to clamp it tight and should help | ||

Has anyone else tried Microlon's engine treatments?I have in my pickup and am thinking of trying it in my Blast.their website is www.microlon.com.Maybe EZBLASTER could read up on it and let us know what he thinks.Merry Christmas | ||

Hi, I've been lurking for a while, but now feel the need to post. I bought a new 2001 Blast! last year. It's my first bike. I put it away for the winter myself, and changed the oil (per the manual) as part of the process. Now I'm trying to "springize" it for the first time, and the manual says do a cold oil check. When I do, NOTHING shows on the dipstick. There's no big oil stain on my garage floor, so has it settled somewhere, or does it need more than the manual's listed 2.0 quarts? Thanks. | ||

The Blast uses a dry sump system, over the winter the oil can migrate and pool in the crankcase. If you can see any oil in the oil tank(frame) at all it would be OK to start, run (while watching for the oil warning light to stay on) then, after a few minutes it will scavenge the crankcase and warm up a bit, shut it off and check the oil level. My Big Kid always trys to check the oil when cold and usually overfills it. He's just stubborn like that. Check your oil when you come back from a ride and add accordingly. | ||

Be very careful if you must add oil when cold (especially without starting it). Add small amounts at a time and only enough to touch the bottom of the dipstick until you can get a hot reading. Its very easy to overfill. | ||

Thanks again for the tips. I turned the engine over a few times without letting it start, did another cold check, and there was oil on the stick. I finished my "removal from storage" checklist, put a funnel and a bottle of oil in my backpack (in some plastic bags!) and hit the road. When I pulled over to do a hot check, the oil level was perfect. Thanks for the help. I'm sure to remember this for next year. Let the season begin! | ||

One drains the engine crankcase ventilation hose(collects moisture), the other one drains the oil tank. Drain both when you drain the oil! | ||

Changed my oil yesterday for the first time by myself. I definitely like the Buell oil hose setup better than my old Kawasaki ZX7. Thanks for all the help I got here on the Thumper board... (Message edited by blaster_s on May 11, 2005) | ||

Allright, can anyone tell me what the oil capacity is for a Blast? Owners manual says 2 quarts, service manual says 1.5 quarts. Which is correct? I have an S1, I know what happens when you put too much oil in it... | ||

2 quarts if you change the oil filter. Fill just a little over 1.5 quarts, heat up engine then add about another .25 quarts. Run a little more check oil level again, you will either be right on or need to add just a touch more. | ||

Has anyone tried the mobil1 MX4T 10w-40 full synthetic motorcycle oil? If not I will post what I think after I service bike tomorrow. It is $7.16 a qt. at wal-mart. Thought it would be worth a try. john | ||

EZ, The back of the bottle says it's for on-road, off-road, and competition 4 stroke motorcycles. I figured with it turning colder if nothing else the 10w-40 would be a little bit better than the 20w-50. Changed oil earlier today and am fixing to ride. Oh yeah call me a dumba$$ but I tipped bike over. No damage done but was'nt real happy with myself. John | ||

EZ, LOL is right. If anything I rode about 20-30 miles after changing oil. Seemed to me like it may have had a slight bit better pick-up. Have not done a topspeed run yet maybe in a couple days. JOhn | ||

I use Mobil 15/50 top and bottom, saw no difference in the bottom vs Mobil gear oil 75/90. Any synth is good, change every 2000 to 2500 - how I work it - a few folks and friends I know use Penzoil synth because of their racing heratage - lol - HD's stuff is inferior - fact. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |
