If you want something nice, find a local shop to powder coat them. Its actaully pretty cheap if you do most of the prep work. (clean them up and remove the bearings, etc...)

Thanks gear, but I damage you see on my flyscreen is just bug guts from my trip to the UP to ride with daves. I broke a turn signal and that was it. I wont be replacing the flyscreen anytime soon hopefully, but thanks for the offer.

Just read the section on motor and tranny oil in the TKV. Still unsure about this: Castrol Syntec 75W-90 Gear Oil in the tranny-- Yea or Nay? (I have a quart of it in my posession.)

See if it has any Sulfer buffers - if not it should be ok - that is the problem with the Mobil 1.

Most importantly, is it compatible with clutch plates? Those will fail/have problems, much quicker than anything else. I would check with Castrol or see if anybody else here uses it.

the Castrol Typical Properties sheet lists:

"Sulfur, % wt........ASTM D-4927..........2.3"

PDF of properties sheet here

Is this different from that sulfur-phosphorous additive in Mobil 1 gear oil?

This is the day that the Little Kid, got his drivers license with the Cycle endorsement, and rode his Blast to school!

This is my youngest, my baby, all 5'11" and 220 lbs! The way he drives a car is scary slow, but on the Blast it's a different story, passing trucks and all. Anyways, the Blasts first day of school!

Buellistic,
I just put on a tach from Dakota Digital. It works fine, easy to hook up. I picked up a billet dash off eBay, which looks good and makes it a no-brainer.
Like I said, it works good, and it flashes at whatever RPM you set it at, so it could double as a shift light.
I'm off to Southern Maine to do some flood relief (National Guard), so I can't get a picture on here for a few days. When I get back, I'll snap a shot and post it up.

To All Hardcore Blasters

There is a meet coming up Minnesota on June 24th. It is being
organised by FSSNOC (Four Stroke Singles National Owners Club.) Its
no big deal, Just meet at Noon at the Backwoods restaurant in
Nowthen, MN and have a meal and afterwards maybe an hour or 2 out in
the parking lot looking at everyone's bikes. There will be an award
for who thumped the furthest to get there. You have to be a member
to come ($30 membership fee - and you get a free t-shirt out of the
deal), but you can sign up for membership when you get there too...

Check out www.FSSNOC.org for details. Look at the latest entry on
the "directors page".

I just joined up and will be at that event. I guess Terry the
Bonneville Blaster has been a member for some time - and he and his
bike were mentioned in the last magazine! The t-shirt is cool, and I
got a sticker for my bike, a subscription to their quarterly home-
brewed magazine (which was a good read), and even a membership card.
LOL. If you sign up, tell them you were referred by #4743... I
think I might get free stuff. ;)

I accidentally removed my primary chain adjuster instead of my transmission drainplug. It still has the factory spacer on it and I just put it back where I found it. Do you think I can get away with not adjusting the primary since the spacer is still on?

Don't know what the torque speck for the factory spacer would be, however, there are several different ways to do it and no real challenge to it - see the TKV section - Engines.., then Blast Specifics - will walk you right through it - not hard at all.

If its a 2000 year model with over 5000 miles you really need to ditch the spacer and adjust it for real. The chain is probably loose and the manual seems to make a big deal about removing the spacer (dont know exactly why). Be patient, practice makes perfect.

Aww man! It's a 2000 and I just went over 5k recently. (Having 2 bikes keeps the mileage down!) It was running so well... Took it on a short ride to work and it seems fine. Extra fine with the new oil, filter, and primary fluid. But, if I must, I must. I'm just being lazy because it's 9am and I'm only on my second cup of coffee.

Thanx for the suggestions,

Mike

Yeah, Swampy, that is very cool. I wish I had that opportunity when I was growing up! Maybe you can rent him a hooked-up Deuce for the Prom instead of a limo, or maybe one of those stretched custom bikes they pass off as choppers these days. Ah, the possibilities...
