Hi. Looks like a great forum. I just recently got a real low milage blast that was purple and purchased a yellow body kit on ebay. Put some custom decals on it (all black) and it looks pretty slick.
So far I have replaced the tank cover and the front fairing which were both easy. My roommate took all his sockets with him so I have not been able to find the right size to remove the rear fender panel. Anyone know what size bolt this is so i can go buy a socket at walmart and return it : D Are the plastic tabs in the top of this panel just tabs or are there screws/bolts under them.
I dont think that the rear fender will be very hard, but the front fender looks like a real pain. The bolts are on the inside of the fender. Do you have to remove the front wheel to take the fender off? I hope there is an easier way.
If you do have to take off the wheel any suggestions for keeping the bike up while im working on this?
Heres a link to a pic of my bike. I couldnt figure out how to post it otherwise.

Yes - you have to remove the front wheel.

Cool thanks. I found the repair manual online and it helped a lot. Taking the brake and wheel off looks like it might take a while and its freezing outside so I may put it off.
I did get the tail piece off which was real easy and put on the new pieces. Im pretty sure im going to order the windshield cause i think the fairing is pretty stupid looking and ineffective anyways.
Heres a pic of my bike with all yellow parts other than the front fender.

Yahoo is a lousy host - can't see pics - if you have rafters you could chock the rear and suspend the front - engine hoist style - lol - a center bike jack would also work - if you have a stock exhaust - if your pics are yahoo size - then they would fit here if downloaded.

Very nice.
We have a grape as well, and I dream of changing it to yellow or orange. But the wife likes it as is.

We have the windshield. I added cityX handguards and a corbin seat. See my profile.

hey Dusty. How do you like that windshield? Looks like if you do any highway driving or might encounter rain that it is definately worth the $200 investment.
I would put another seat on but im real tall so I think the tall seat is probably the best idea for me.
I really like the purple stitching on the seat though looks great with the bike, and the hand guards look pretty cool with the windshield as well.
Youd have a hard time getting me off the sportster though ;)

The windshield is a definite must if you are going to do a lot of highway riding, or rainy riding or even cold riding.

My wife has the Blast now. Although, I kept the Corbin seat for the times I ride it.....

Not trying to take $$$ out of Erik Buell's pocket, but the Givi A602 is ver similar in appearance to the "official" Blast windscreen, and can be had for considerably less cost. I have one and it is the cat's nads. check it out:

You can get the front fender off without removing the wheel, but its slow going.

Wish I'd seen that windshield before. It looks a bit sharper than what I got. I like the transparent look.

I wonder if you can attach that windshield to any style bars. I have factory but am probably gonna get some superbike bars.
I figured out that yes you can get the fender off without taking the wheel and brake off. It takes a little patience probably took arround an hour just to get it off. I found it helps to completely deflate the tire. I wonder how long it will take to put the yellow one on.
Anyone know if its illegal to ride without a fender on the front? Might do it anyways tomorrow if I dont have time to get it on tonight.

Highly unlikely you'll get pulled over for not having a front fender.

Water and mud will become your friends without a fender....

BTW - if you decide to put lower bars on let me know. I have some CityX bars I had on the Blast for about a month. Too low for my wife (or me). I'll make you a great deal.

Mainly water has become my friend. Hopefully it will dry up soon. Stuff doesnt really stay wet here long in texas. I need to get arround to putting the fender back on but ive been busy with other stuff lately.
I did order the buell windshield. I appreciate the link to the giva windshield johnnylunchbox but I found a harley shop online that had the buell one on sale so I got it for $185 shipped.
Dustyjacket you got any pics of the CityX bars? I kinda like the way the superbike bars look. How much adjusting of cables etc did you have to do when you put new bars on?
Thanks for any info on em. Id definately like to see a picture of them especially if you have a pic of them installed on the bike

No adjustment nescessary, you can get them from
Chaperal for 20 bucks in either chrome or Black, just remember to also get new grips - link for Chaperal in the links to stuff you can't find here section -- search for superbike handlebars.

Any recommended grips? I was considering findng bar end mirrors too but they look pretty expensive.

3rd eye are really good and inexpensive - check your local bycicle store, and for grips I'd pay the few extra bucks over regular grip prices and get the Buell traction grips - comfey and durable - I wish they came in red for the red bike - its been through 5 pairs of grips and still nothing as comfey as the Traction.

Dubman - the picture in my profile is with the CityX bars. (And the Buell Traction grips.)

The regular bars are 2-3 inches higher.
