I finished my 5,000 mile service last night. I ended up grinding down a t-27 torx bit and used a wrench on the end to get the primary cover off without removing the peg brackets. I put a ngk spark plug in part dpr8e put amsoil in the engine and primary. I adjusted the idle.It was three and a half turns out to two and 3/4 turns out. Did a quick test run last night down the street and it ran better. Shifting was so much smoother then before, and the engine knocking noise went away. This morning on my way into work I got on it a little hard in first gear, and shifted into second with the rpms up a little and let the clutch out and holy pucker, the front end came up about a foot. Didnt expect it, kinda shocked me. I have shifted like this before and it never did that. This was the first service I have done on my own, thanks to the help from here I was able to do it. |

Wow. I'm surprised the front came up too. I've never heard of a stock displacement Blast lifting in second gear under any circumstances |

Naustin, wait until you get those rearsets on. Makes wheelies easier! Stock, it'll slide or lift when going into 2nd when done right. (or wrong?!) |

I thought it would only wheelie in 1st standing on the pass. pegs.... While i've been getting alot more aggressive and comfortable on the edge with my riding, I have never wheelie'd and remember, the 5,200 miles on my blast represents the bredth of my motorcycling experience. I don't want to hurt the bike or, to a lesser degree since I do have amazing regenerative properties, myself. I always figured the best way to learn to wheelie was to not try to wheelie, but for it to simply happen when you reach a skill level that allows it. Then, doing it intentionally would be as easy as gaging on anchovy paste. arguarf Does "doing it right" cause any unusual stress on the bike?? (Message edited by naustin on September 29, 2005) |

Like I said I didnt mean to do it. I have about the same mileage as you Naustin and this bike has been my only two wheel riding experience. I think I just got on it to hard when shifting. Got the rpms up to high before the clutch was released and probably had my weight back to far when this happend. I wasnt trying to wheelie and I dont plan on trying to do this again. I cant afford to fix if anything breaks I have to many other plans for this bike first. |

A dpr9 plug would be a better choice - the 8 is a tad hot and a torn intake boot with it could be trouble, although I ran much hotter - a 6 for my problem to occur, still I guess the 8 wouldn't be too hot. LOL - also - I've lifted that puppy in 3rd! GT - JBOTDS! EZ (Message edited by ezblast on September 29, 2005) |

Boot is not torn anymore. I ordered two from daves when I got back from appleton. the 8 is the plug that is recommended from the ngk website and also that is the one that was posted to use the 7 was the one to hot that was posted on here. (Message edited by jugallo94 on September 29, 2005) |

Spark Plugs 10R12A NGK DPR7ea-9 hot (not recommended) NGK DPR8EA-9 medium NGK DPR9EA-9 cool (equivalent to Buell 10R12) DCPR same except socket size Denso Irridium IX27B (Notes: Do not use their recommended plug - it references back to the old 6R12 number that is too hot and was superceded to the 10R12. Also red locktight the ceramic and electrode together before installing, otherwise they will viberate loose. Also their racing version of this plug is not recommended for the street - too hot!) I've not lifted front wheel on my Blast yet but since I've done my minow power upgrades and I'm on it it will give you a heck of a jerk from 1st to 2nd. I have(unintentionally) wheelied on an XB12s when volunteering to help out on demo rides for my dealer. If any of you have your dealer doing fleet bike demo rides VOLUNTEER. It was AWESOME. You get to ride their bikes(They had all 05 Buell models and also a 1200 Sportster,V-Rod, And Street Rod) and burn their gas. They even fed us both days. And the 1st day I worked I had only ridden the Blast, nothing bigger. And less than 6 months at that. I was amazed how easy the transition was to other Buell models. Only the LOOONNNGGG wheelbase cruisers were akward. John |
